I dont know how good Beechwood is having not seen them, but I do believe Hazard is a very good football team with some quality skilled people especially the QB. Beechwood, however is usually a different kind of an animal than you normally run into in 1A and would probably take a monumental effort to beat. If Hazard gets that far they have the kind of talent that could possibly beat a program like Beechwood.

Looks like we were posting at about the same time, thanks for the info that you do have. I wouldnt think that someone with no head coaching experience would be considered for this job. Having said that however, I do know that the Woolum family is very rich in football tradition with Jerry having played QB for the Big Blue and Tuck having played QB and lead Eastern Ky to a National Title, not to mention that all of Jerry's sons were excellent players in their own right, with Mark and Tuck taking their football careers into the coaching ranks. All I am saying is that it doesnt seem to me that he would be considered for the head coaching position, but I do believe that either of the Woolum's (Mark or Tuck) would be a very valuable asset to a coaching staff at the new Harlan County School.

I am seeing this talk of Mark/Doodle Woolum, but no one seems to know anything of his credentials other than he is coaching at a good football program in Florida and that his family has a close relationship with Tim Saylor. So, is he a head coach or not and has he ever been a head coach? If he is not a head coach and has never been a head coach then what has he done to make you believe he could seriously be considered for this high profile, very important job at a brand new 50 million dollar consolidated high school. I would like to believe that this new school would be able to attract a well known established head coach with a winning track record.

TJ Green should have a big night running the ball, I think Corbin ran for about 500 yards on Somerset, but Somerset scored 47 on a great Corbin team and that is scary. They will probably score as many as they want against the Trojans and this will probably get pretty ugly (56-12)

I dont think he is even a head coach though is he? I wouldnt think the Harlan County Brass would hire a young fella that has never been a head coach would they??

North will be very solid in the backcourt, but do not have very much at all inside and that keeps them from being in the top 5 or 6 teams. I believe somewhere in the 7 to 10 spot is a very legitimate rankng for them.

What exactly do you see Les that is HILARIOUS about the player and team rankings that the COACHES voted on?? As for being more sold on Corbin than Cumberland, the next time you talk to Steve Wright or anyone on the SL coaching staff why dont you ask them what they think about the Redskins!! As for what I have seen out of SL this past summer and know about their excellent coaching staff they will be a solid team in this Region and I am sure nobody would ever take them lightly, especially not a veteran team like Cumberland.

I think That Cumberland will prove to be the solid #1 team in this Region, Corbin is right there too, but It will be interesting to see how not playing basketball for the last several months due to injury will effect Josh Crawford's play. I heard a couple days ago that he was not even practicing yet. Cumberland will be strong inside and out, and quick at every position and will go 8 or 9 deep with quality players off the bench this year. They will be in tremendous shape and will represent themselves and the 13th Region wherever they go this year very well

I would surely hope that is not the case, as for the Harlan County coach, I have heard a few names such as Mike Holcomb, David Hensley, JB Donahue and Dudley Hilton who has a dynasty in the making at Bell right now and is probably not interested. It seems to me that Holcomb would be a great hire, and see if he can build a state championship contending program at multiple schools like Dudley Hilton has done at Breathitt, Bell, Bourbon and now back at Bell once again, Wow what a legendary coach Hilton is. Holcomb may come and do the same at Harlan County High School, I am sure he would be greatly welcomed here.

TJ Green is one heck of a football player and he will be an excellent leader for the new Harlan County Bears team next year. Another kid I thought played a very good game for Cawood was Brad Howard, he played his tail off defensively. Carry that type of intensity into the playoffs and make a strong, respectable showing, good luck Trojans and Skins in the upcoming weeks

A couple of the many mind boggling things to me about last night. 1st, Lance Simmons who is averageing 10 plus yards per carry for the season (HDE could you give us his stats for the year) carried the ball 5 times for 53 yards last night, only 5 carries all night!!!!! 2nd, on the last play of the game, with clearly only two players on Cumberland's team capable of taking a screen pass and going 57 yards (Simmons and Gilliam) Cumberland throws a screen pass to a backup fullback for -3 yards with 17 seconds left and then some of their players walked back to the line of scrimmage and didnt get another play off!!!! Just kind of an example of how they played the entire night. I would like to commend Zach Blanton for the game he played last night (10 of 16 for 195 yards and 3 touchdowns) He seemed to have a determination to try to keep the Skins in the game, maybe the rest of the team can feed off of his performance and try to finish the season in respectable fashion.

Cumberland looked unprepaired, unorganized, undiciplined, poorly coached and totally not ready to play. It would have been 19-0 at the half if not for about a 20 yard touchdown pass with around 20 seconds to go in the half. Having said that Cawood did play a tough, gritty football game and TJ Green ran through Cumberlands extremely poor arm tackling most of the night. Cumberland clearly had the most talent on the field, but talent alone does not win football games against less talented teams. It takes organization, physical and mental toughness and a desire to be the best night in, night out, things that Cumberland has not shown much of their last 3 games. I truly hope there is some way this Cumberland team can get their act together for the playoffs, because if they dont bring any more to the table than they did tonight they will loose their last game at a decent Pike Central, may loose to Jenkins in the 1st round of the playoffs, and if they get by Jenkins will certainly get beat badly by Hazard in the 2nd round.

I do not agree with you about that. IMO you watch and see the same schools that won big in the summer will be the ones winning big in the winter and spring, with the exception of a small number of teams that were playing without an injured star player, for example Corbin played I think all summer without their top guy Josh Crawford and were obviously not as succesful as they would have been with him. There may be another case or two such as this.

I think Harlan is very well coached and J.B. will coach the Dragons through this one. Jenkins has some decent athletes however and it will not be easy. I would predict 27-20 Harlan

Cumberland has some regrouping to do, not to mention a couple injuries to overcome and I would say Evarts will be fired up and ready to play, so the Skins had better get ready and bring their A game or this one could be a very tough one to win. Actually, even with their A game it will be a very tough hard fought battle and could go either way depending on who wants it the most IMO.

Hazard has several good football players and one Tremendous QB, WOW Olinger had 200 yds rushing and 300 passing. I am not sure he is that great a runner or Cumberland did a poor job tackling, a little of both I would say, but he is really good. I dont think I have ever seen a QB have a 200/300 night on any level (H.S., College or Pro) This guy has got the potential to be something special IMO, I think he could be guiding the Big Blue in Commonwealth Stadium in a few years. Those 2 big tight end/wide receivers (Meehan and Campbell) are very impressive too. They might not be strong enough in the trenches to handle the likes of Beechwood or Mayfield, but they have a very good team. They had the Skins outmatched pretty much all over.

Lincoln County has some nice guard play, but do they have any inside play? If they do have any decent inside play they will be the clear favorite IMO.

I must say that in the 2nd half outside of a couple big offensive plays by Cumberland Harlan actually played them tough the last two quarters. The 3rd quarter was a scoreless tie and Harlan moved the ball against Cumberland's starters their first 2 drives of the 4th, scoring a touchdown on one of those drives and got inside the 30 on the other drive. Cumberland's speed hit Harlan for 3 or 4 big plays in the first half, but I actually didnt think Cumberland ever looked real sharp in this game, and will need to be sharper next week against Hazard. I think Gilliam would be a more dominant player and open things up for Cumberland more at the tailback spot. Good luck to the Skins next week.
