Never said that you spoke of OJ, I was just asking you a question. Did not realize that it would be so hard to answer. Do you think OJ needed the extra year to get a college schlorship or not?

How is it fair for a kid who is going to be 20 in September to be competing against high school kids? That happened this season and that is a great example of why this rule is unfair. Player "B" turned 19 in September and was a senior. He had a major advantage in maturity and physically, no doubt about it.

Well now, using all caps going wild on this. I know plenty, whether you know that or not is of no importance to me. If you honestly think that the average 15-16 year old is physically equal to a 19 year old then you can believe that but it is not true. As a coach I knew many times what was going on in the "familia" as you called it, I am assuming you meant family. And if a kid is well adjusted and making good grades then they will get to college, they don't need to be held back. But until the rule is changed the abusing of the system will go on and on. You never did tell me if you thought OJ needed the extra year to get a college schlorship.

There can be no explanation for doing a young lady wrong.

Are you saying that OJ needed the extra year by the way? He will be 20 years old before his first college game next year, if he doesn't get jailed before then.

Cool, everyone has the right to their views. I can only hope that a more fair rule is imposed in the near future and maybe I can humbly be a part of that.

As a former coach, player and official I have seen it many times. And I know a lot who have done that, held kids back just for athletics. And as a former coach it did affect me and my teams. So, based on my many different experiences as a player, coach and basketball official I have more knowledge than most about this issue, even if I am not a parent.

Really it has nothing to do with me. I have no children and I don't coach jv or high school anymore. I just don't think it is right to hold a kid back just for athletics, it is not necesary. Greg Oden and Kevin Durant are great examples. Oden just turned 19 in January and Durant turned 18 in September. I thought the rule was different when I was in school, I may be wrong about that though.

^ I would but I am not very well liked in Elliott County. I think it is wrong to hold kids back just for athletics and Keith Whitley is overrated too. However, I am a big fan of Rocky Adkins, he is a great guy.

I think it was Parkersburg that I watched play them on MyZ. OJ did not play and it was a good game up until the last four or five minutes. Parkersburg got a late technical and the lead that HHS had went to double figures quickly after that.

I wish I could have stayed another year. That would have meant at least one more win over Elliott County.

Like I said earlier, if a parent holds back a child for academic, social or emotional developement then I think that those are all valid reasons. I helped coach an elementary team this year and we played a team from Ohio, a sixth grade team. They have at least two or three kids who looked like ninth graders. One of our players asked them about being held back and two said they had been held back one year and a third said he had been held back two years. That is just wrong. In my earlier post, number 35 I think, I spoke about a rule that I thought would be fair all the way around. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, thank God and our troops for that, but I think anyone being totally honest will admit that a 19 year old a vast majority of the time will have a physical advantage over a 16 year old.

I am not trying to turn anything negative against Rose Hill, I have become a fan of the girls program. But is obvious by some of the posts that Coach Watkins was not getting the respect he deserves and I think that is wrong and uncalled for. Maybe your post was misunderstood on my part and I apologize right now if that was the case but I stand by my belief that some posts were disrespectful and showed very little knowledge of Coach Watkins and what he has brought to Rose Hill.

And that is the great thing about the good ole' USA, we can have our opinons. And you know what, it is great that you held your own at 16 and your son does the same but maybe that is not the case for everyone when they are that age going against an adult. I truly believe that may proposal would be very fair to all parties. I was only 17 when I graduated and at that time it was unusual to see someone 19 still in high school, let alone playing sports. Maybe someday the situation will be evaluated and corrections will be made, who knows. It is still impressive that you were 18 months old when you graduated, :thumb:

Anyone that blames Coach Watkins for the loss is going way out on a limb and not treating him with the respect he deserves. I would be willing to bet that Coach Euton would be the very first to say that a lot of Rose Hill's success is due to the hard work and knowledge that Coach Watkins has brought to Rose Hill. I was not at the game so I cannot comment on what happened there but I will say with confidence that Rose Hill would not have had the seasons they have had the past two years without Mark Watkins.

You were 18 months before you graduated?No, you probably should not be penalized, you should have graduated from college by three or four years I guess. Ok, I don't understand that but let me go on to something else. The guys I am specifically talking about that were held back would have been 18 years old if they would have graduated on time. One of the players I am talking about will be 20 less than three months after he graduates from high school. Yes, JV ball is for people who need additional experience before they may be able to contribute to varsity, and freshman ball is for freshman. But the fact remains that a 19 year old adult has an advantage physically over a 16 or 17 year old most of the time.

^ All well and good but it still does not take away from the fact that she was not on the team and should have been. Yes, she has her D1 signing and lots of other awards but that still does not let me and others understand why Emily, the best player in the region and one of the best in the state, was not on this team when it is very clear that she deserved to be on it. And if Rose Hill players could not be voted on, as was posted on here earlier by someone, then how did Laura get on there instead of another 16th region player who did not get to go to the state tournament? People can dance and dance around the facts all they want but this is just another example of a Rose Hill player, and there has been male and female, who have not been recognized fairly for awards over the past three or four years.
