Scott Brown is the best defender on the team, but he is not the best player. You talked about points and Maddox being the garbage man... well no matter how you get them, points are points! If you are talking about the player that has the most impact on the game, then you have to throw Henson in the mix. He is an unselfish player that is very good a defending the low post, and rebounding. He IS the best passer on the team, and perhaps one of the best passers in the region. However for all of his defense and rebounding prowess, he is not the scoring threat on this team. In my original post on this subject I said that on any given night, any of the 5 starters could be in the top 10 in the 8th(Henson's 19pts and 18 boards vs Walton for example). However, Maddox is the one that has consistantly put the numbers up to stay there.

Trent Maddox from Gallatin County is a top 5 player in the region. Many of his team mates are worthy of being a top player on any given night, but Trent is their best player.:thumb:

Throw in the fact that they just seem to not like each other at all and you generally have some very good games, in spite of talent level at any of the three schools. Most times, there are a numerous fouls called and some very, very hard fought and physical games played when Gallatin comes to call on them. Might as well play football instead... either way I like Gallatin County in either sport.

Well said! I am an official and know of that which I speak to some degree. When you are in the stands, usually setting in an elevated position from the floor, and an obvious advantage of angle and distance it is easier to see a play as it develops. However calling the action on the floor, from point blank range, and sometimes having an obscured view caused from the players themselves... Well it is much more difficult than you think it would be.

I think Tim Ohara is a good official, and he is in the 9th.

In your opinion, who is at the top in your area in calling a good basketball game? Show some love to the official that is best in your region and give them there props here. IMO - in the 8th region there are few good ones, but the best is Coldiron.

Gallatin has a break in their schedule before playing a tough Shelby County team. I am certain that coach Jones will get the boys back on track during this time and probably add a few new wrinkles to mix to boot!. I doubt the loss at Ryle will have any lingering impact on this club come All A time. See you there at the All A.

Totally at the decision of the home school. They will tell the assigner for the games if they need 3 officials. If there is a big game, or a rival game, you can bet there will be three on the floor. In this case, Ryle must have thought two could handle it.

Yeah I know you have. Others on the site may not know what all the goings on in a game are for though, so I thought I would provide insite. No other intent than that.

Part of the responsibility of the official and umpire for the game is to count the number of players on the floor during warmups. This information is used to determine the number of entries in the official scorebook (which is always the home teams book unless duly noted otherwise). If there were 10 players on the flor, for example, and 12 listed in the book, the official knows there is possibly a problem. At 10 minutes left in the pregame warmups, the official goes to the scorer table to check the official score book. The official is looking for names and numbers of the players to be clearly defined in the book for both teams. He underlines the last entry in book, and signs his name to it. This is to certify that all is good, and that if there are later any descrepancies found, a technical is administered against the team found to be in violation. IF the official or umpire taunted a kid prior to the game starting, it clearly is out of the oridinary and should be reported to the KHSAA. At no time is a player on the team responsible, nor can be held responsible for the correct entries in the book. That is the head coaches responsibility ultimately. Again I say if these things are true and this official did these things, he should be stripped of his officiating responsibilities and reprimanded by the KHSAA.

I have rec'd the same officials training as these goofballs did, and from the same organization, yes the coveted NRBOA. THEY ARE TAUGHT TO HOLD THE CALLS IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS AND DEFER TO THE OFFICIAL THAT THE PLAY IS COMING TOWARDS. Obviously this training went out the window and the trail officials ego kicked in (couldn't possibly have made the wrong call now could he?), considering the trail official blew the whistle, immediately indicating an offensive foul from about 45 ft away, then while he has his hand in the offensive signal behind his head, begins to scratch his head as if to say he had an itch! That is BS and he knows it. I intend to address this with him when I see him next. The 9th region blows there own horn on how well they train there officials, making each official go through 5 years of training before they get a varsity game. THE JOKE IS ON THEM BECAUSE AROUND THE STATE THEY ARE VIEWED AS THE WORST OFFICIAL SENT TO THE STATE TOURNEYS. :flame::flame::flame:

IF Gallatin plays better than they have the last three games, they will beat Ryle by 10. However, if they play like they have the past 3 games, they will get beat by 20. I'll still take the Wildcats by 10. 63-53:banana:

IMO the reason the game was as close as it was is that CC was shooting very well. Couple that with a sub-par performance from Gallatin in a high charged atmosphere that was heavily against Gallatin. I hope Gallatin shakes off this funk they are in and gets back to playing ball the way they are capable of playing. Having said that, it was a great game to watch purely from a basketball standpoint. Congrats to both teams and good luck the rest of the way!:thumb:
