Good vacation I guess too. Just feel like the kids would enjoy it more if they were say the only KY team in the thing.

Why go to florida and play a bunch of kentucky teams? I never got that.

I feel like its popularity has grown large in part due to basketball being a game that a kid can play indoors/outdoors and year round by himself. We have all done the midnight by streetlight 3...2...1.... thing. That is not something you can do with football, baseball, etc.

You might have to wait until the end of next week to see. Nothing happening this week because of spring break.

Jenna High, graduated. She was a pretty good shooter but there are players on that team that will be able to replace her.

Ours that arent playing baseball will start back just playing.

Montgomery Co. on that list of 10? They lost a little bit inside with Danis but she was a player that could play wing to wing and ft line up? There is a lot of young talent on that team and a ton of experience coming back with lee and prewitt.

That staff will do a good job of hiring. There is a lot of sports knowledge doing the hiring up there at Montgomery.

Any of those guys will do a great job I am sure. I am curious to see.

A non-talented athlete is just as much good as a talented non-athlete; not much good at all. Believe me, I know.

I just think so much depends on the kid, how hard they are willing to work on their own, how much time they spend on the weights, etc. It can go on and on. Coaching a skill or set of skills is the easiest part of coaching to me. The one thing that you touched on lmb that I completely agree with you on is the attitude part. That is sometimes more important than the muscle fibers or genes themselves.

I have seen more coaches let talent go uncharted than I have seen coaches produce diamonds from dirt.

I feel like those things hope to keep the skills fresh and of course develop a few more along the way but the truth is, you cant make a player great. That player becomes great because they want to be great. In college and the pros it is somewhat different.

Log Mountain boy, I dont feel that I can go with you on this one. In high school unless you are private, you still have to play the cards you are dealt no matter how many you have to choose from. It is still possible to have 1200 kids and only have 3 good basketball players from that group and 12 average joes, especially since the emergence of, dare I say, Soccer.

Two kinds of seasons. In-season and off-season. One you play, one you work!

Thank you lbbc. The hardest thing that I found with coaching girls at the high school level is that some just dont want to go game speed all of the time. Maybe that is a direct reflection of not being driven either by coaching or by the lack of desire from teammates or whatever but, yes absolutely, slow down nothing about girls basketball, drive hard, go hard to the cup, and keep girls basketball going where UCONN and TN started and LSU and Vandy, and Duke and UNC have followed!

IMO, I feel like the game is changing such that the players are getting faster, more physical, and more athletic. However, most girls at this level have not adapted their scoring ability yet. You see, while good ball movement some time ago was good enough to get a girl open enough to set shoot from a particular position on the floor, defenders are now closing out faster and quicker to the shooter forcing them to put the ball on the floor. Now that said, Girls basketball is facing the same dilemma that the boys game faced in the 80's. During that period, players had to learn to shoot off of the dribble and create shots in movment. Two girls who I have found that can do that are Queen and the Scott Co. girl (sorry dont remember her name only saw her once). True others can do it and there are several that are learning. I think that because of this, girls basketball will see the most advancement in the coming decade than will the boys. It should make for exciting basketball in the future for girls basketball. Look at Candice Parker at TN, in ten years there will be 20 of those in college basketball. Wont that be exciting.

Come on master. I dont think that I can go along with the idea that they already know who they are going to hire before the interview. Most people have a predetermined favorite but most commonly, the decision will be made either consciously or subconsciously within the first five minutes of the begining of the interview.

I agree with strike3. 4-6 members, preferably 4 members should compose a committee. One of the things a committee should look at along with the proven or disproven (?????) success of a coach is his/her ability to manage a complete program, budget, hiring asst. coaches, goal related planning, scheduling, etc. I like what strike3 said because it pretty well removes parents and boosters and brings in collectively people from different angles with different perspectives on what they are trying to acheive in both the athletic and academic forums. Take for instance, an AD, well obviously athletic success drives the passion of that person; a principal, well that person is in the middle of that fence balancing athletics/academics; and the super, well, fiscal is their middle name; and other coaches, obviously to see if the applicant is on the same page with the other coaches in the school as far as cooperation with gym space, weight facilities, booster accomodations,etc. In short, keep in the school system. leave mommys and daddys out of it. For the most part even if they know the game their decisions are based on the benefit of their kid alone not the overall program grade 6-12.
