  1. We did play each other in '99 and '00. The state finals were '01 and '02. Not sure if that's what you meant or not.
  2. I'm almost like you, I'm not surprised by a nation that would elect Clinton twice and all the laws he broke. But anybody that would call Hilary that, if you recall, I'd vote for him just for that.
  3. IMO this is not a fair comparison. They're two different types of players. Of course Mac's BA is going to be lower and his SO is going to be higher. He's a slugger, whereas I don't think you would call Ripken a slugger. He has a high HR total, but I wouldn't say slugger. Ripken's a no doubter with numbers to challenge most anybody. I think it would be a better comparison to have Mac against another slugger type player.
  4. Agreed about the playoffs. BUT, the Phillies didn't make it with Howard, so why would that make him so much more valuable? Take him away from the team and they're still setting at home watching the playoffs. Pujols helped his team and I think we would probably agree that without him, the Cards don't make it. To me, that makes him more "valuable" than Howard.
  5. Hmmm.....could've sworn it was grass. My bad TL.
  6. I hadn't looked closely at it before. I was hoping LexCath had moved to 5A, but no such luck. I also noticed that Boyle had moved from the west to the east, which means we could play them now without it being at state. I wouldn't mind a chance for revenge. :fight:
  7. Ok. In what way? I'm having stupid moment and need it explained.
  8. Not to be picky, but they don't play on carpent anymore, do they? They play at Papa John's Stadium and isn't it grass? Just wondering. I do expect Bell to be our toughest test next year, as they are most years. Especially considering the number of seniors that we had this year.
  9. That's a nice point that you make about Pujols' not so special October. What you didn't mention was how he carried them through the season, especially the first half. If he didn't have the type of season that he did, the Cards wouldn't have made the playoffs.
  10. Don't forget, Pujols missed a lot of time due to an injury and still put up monster numbers. Had he stayed healthy, we probably wouldn't be having this debate, because he probably would've won it.
  11. I know that there aren't different "levels" in the HOF. I know what you're saying. But I thought being voted in the HOF meant you were one of the best of all time. I don't mean to sound like a pain. I'm just thinking out loud.
  12. Sorry, didn't know there were different levels in the HOF. I understand what you're saying. Just not sure I agree with it.
  13. I don't understand this and maybe you can explain it to me. What's the difference in 1st year or 2nd year? If they're HOF worthy, then they're worthy, regardless of what year it is. I just haven't figured it out yet.
  14. What illegal substances? What they took wasn't illegal then. How can we go back in history and punish somebody for doing something that wasn't illegal at the time, but became illegal later? I just don't think it's right. But what the writer was saying is, his numbers were HOF worthy in '98, so why not now? Bonds' trainer and all those aren't forced to testify and people applaud them for taking a stand. But whenever Mac refuses to testify, he's "without a doubt guilty" and labeled a bad guy. And the writer did say he deserves to be in. Look at the title "Go to the Hall, Mark McGwire." Which insists that he should be there.
  15. Here's an interesting article for all you anti-McGwire people. I think it's very nicely written and explains why he SHOULD be in the HOF. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=caple/offbase/061129
  16. You shouldn't "assume" anything.
  17. To me, that's just wrong and almost as bad as what Irvin said. I said "almost." Irvin landed on his head and had to be carted off the field. It wasn't clear if he would ever ben able to walk again. To me, regardless of how bad you dislike a player, you shouldn't cheer when they get injured like that. IMO the "sports" fans in Philly are some of the worst in the country. I think that's why the sports gods frown on the city so much.
  18. First, I'm not a huge Cards fan. I don't mind them. I was for Detroit, but I can handle SLC winning. I like Pujols. I think he's a great player. So I will say this. Howard's numbers were VERY impressive, especially for a second year player. I think he's very deserving of the MVP. But so was Pujols. I think sometimes people forget what the MVP stands for. It's the most VALUABLE player. Not necessarily the one with the best numbers. The Phillies didn't make the playoffs with him and those numbers, so they wouldn't really lose anything without him. I think the Phillies actually played better AFTER all the trades. However, Pujols pretty much carried the Cards all year. If you take Pujols out of the line up, the Cards don't win the Central. It's the same as McNabb a few years ago. He got injured and the Eagles went 4-1 without him. How can he be so valuable if they go 4-1 while he's not in there? And as far as an MVP not making the playoffs, McGwire should've won in '98 over Sosa. McGwire had more homers, fewer strikeouts, trailed in RBIs by like 5, and the Cubs only won like 5 more games than the Cards. But Sosa got it, I think, because he played for the Cubs and they're a media darling and they made the playoffs and the Cards didn't.
  19. Yep. My bad. Take out "time of tribulation." It sees how our faith is at any point in time, good or bad.
  20. No. I didn't say that. What I'm saying is that just because he's an oil man doesn't mean that he encourages the oil companies to blast the prices. After all, ALL the oil companies are doing the same thing. Many people that complain about gas prices say something like "prices are never going to go down. that president is making a killing off of it." Well he might be making money, but he's not the only one. So it makes me mad when he's the only one that gets blamed for it.
  21. Tamme had a great game that day. He's only like 5 inches taller than anybody that was covering him. Not taking anything away from Tamme. I'm just saying. But I was going to say, also in the Rock vs Boyle game from '01 was Jason Leger from the Rock. I don't know his stats, but he was a sophmore and UK wanted him right then. After watching his performance that day, they said they'd be back in 2 years.
  22. I just used the night club as an example because it's a common occurance. He could be at the grocery store in the middle of the day.
