Playoff confusion???

Featured Replies

I am trying to fiqure the regional championship games this week-end and I will say some interesting matchups exist. However, and I know there is a good reason for this and I just do not know what it is, if this is a regional championship weekend why are some teams from 2 different regions playing for regional championships? I am sure there are good reasons for it. Has it always been like this?

If Corbin and Larue are from the same region should they be playing one another this week end. Same with Russell and Mercer, Male and Meade and last Trinty and Ryle. I am sure I am looking over something that makes this the case, just not sure what it is.

The term "Region" could be misunderstood easily here.

It has nothing to do with a geographic "region" like it has implied in a way in the past. Regions are now switched up every year, so your team could win Region 1 this year and Region 3 next year.

Basically, region champ means you are a state semifinalist.

The KHSAA did a double top secret blind draw and this is how the pairing came out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:sssh: ;)

So next year, as I understand it, 1A and 3A will play opposite regions in the "semi finalist" qualifier like 2A and 4A are doing this year. This is the 1st year for that I suppose???

Well let me rephrase that some schools in 2A and 4A are doing this year for example Regions 2 and 3 in 2A and Regions 2 and 3 in 4A

How much windex do they passout at these meetings when they figured this bright idea out? I swear....

As far as I know, it is a blind draw to happen every year. I think the Coaches Assn. will try to get this axed.

Let me throw this question in the mix. A co-worker of mine lives in Somerset and his kids go to Southwestern. I, as you can tell, am from Rockcastle. Let's examine the games that these two teams play this coming weekend. Southwestern hosts Central. Central won the region and had a better district record. Yet the game is at Southwestern, which would imply the lower seed is getting home field. Rockcastle on the other hand finished second in the region behind Johnson Central, yet Johnson Central is getting home field.

Why is the lower seed getting home field in one region, but the higher seed is getting it in the other region? Does this have to do with the blind draw that several have made reference to?

Where do you get Johnson Central and Central have won regions?

Rockastle did not finish second in the region to anyone. That is yet to be determined. No regional championships are determined until this week.

There are no region seeds. Each team is seeded by their district record only. That means there are 4 seeds per district.

When it comes to hosting the regional championship, the team with the higher seed hosts. Example: a #1 hosting a #2, or a #2 hosting a #4. These seeds can be from the same or different districts.

In the event of both remaining teams with the same seed, where as Rockcastle and Johnson Central are both #1's, the home game goes to the odd/even year host. Example district 2,4,6,8 would host this year since it is 2006. That goes for Male/Trinity, Henry Clay/GRC, and many other games.

Sorry, I misspoke. I didn't mean won the region. I meant having a better record and a higher seed.

Ah, I see. Well this clears up a HUGE amount of confusion for me. I was under the impression that the region had seeding as well. OK, it's crystal clear now. Thanks.

Yes, but it needs to go a step further.

If both teams are from odd districts or if both are from even districts, then the team from the higher numbered district hosts in the even years and teams from the lower numbered district hosts in the odd years.

That is why Russell (D5) is hosting Corbin (D3).
