  1. 49th- Overall the weakiest district in the 13th Region. Clay is the dominant team in that district, you could shake up OBI,Jackson,Red Bird, and North Laurel they are all about equal. Clay and North will come out of that district 50th-The bottom two teams Whitley and Williamsburg are much more competitive this year, but should not be a match for South and Corbin. With South coming out of that district as the champion. 51st-Overall the most balenced, competitve district. Two veteran coaches, Phipps and Strange will square off in the opening round. With Pineville coming out on top. Knox beat Lynn Camp 52nd-Middlesboro and Bell County, with Bell County coming out of that district as champions Overall Rankings To Win The 13th 1.South Laurel 2.Corbin 3.Knox Central 4.Middlesboro 5.Clay County 6.Bell County 7.Pineville 8.North Laurel
  2. How can the defending champs that return three starters and one of the regions best jv teams be ranked second to Corbin, when they beat them three times last season? Middlesboro and North Laurel are both too high. On paper Middlesboro is as good as anyone, but when it comes down to it we all know what will bite them in the end. Besides Seidell and Wardrup who does North Laurel return that even had varsity playing time last year?
  3. Has the big boy at Bell improved any in the off season?
  4. 1.Crawford 2. Miller 3.St.John 4.Johnson 5.Strange 6.Seidell 7.Green 8.Zachary 9.Caldwell 10.Wilson Sleeper:Watkins
  5. Bill Jones is a TERRIBLE coach, so was Ed, they would have been better off to of kept Millett. I mean they had have had two years in the last eight seasons in which they made the regional tournament. Middlesboro has talent, just terrible coaching decisions and coaching hires. The All A means nothing, it is regional championships is what matters!
  6. South Laurel once again should be favorite to win the region. They return one of the states premier big men in Matt St. John, as well as one of the top swingmen in the region Zack Smith. They should battle with Corbin for the regions top spot.
  7. North should struggle this year. They lost their two major ball handlers and most experienced post player. Seidel is a top player in the region and can shoot from anywhere and be deadly. They return one other starter, pending on their schedule will be a .500 ball club.
  8. They have the top shooter in the region. Things will be tough for them losing seven seniors from last years team. Not a top ten team in the region for sure. Should be ranked second or third in their district.
  9. They have one of the regions top player. Cody Miller is very versitale and could play anywhere on the floor for his 6ft4 frame. They are a top five team in this region, and if they supporting cast around Miller develops they could be in Rupp this year.
  10. As far as having talented athletes they are on a talent scale under Corbin. The problem in Middlesboro has been terrible coaching hires. Defensively they will struggle, its obvious their coach is clueless. They have good athletes to press people, but most the time they sit back in a zone and teams kill them from the outside. A team that could win 20 games and compete for the district and region will be a sub .500 team.
  11. I do agree that things may be a little tougher for South losing Jones and Bortnem, but Steve Wright has his program so good now it is like a farm system, you just reload. Even with what he has coming back they should not beat Corbin, but they will. What makes them so tough is their defensive schemes. I know in years past they have had some good offensive players that kind of took the limelight away from the different junk defenses that they can throw at you, but last years group and this years group are defensive stompers, and with the talent Corbin has no way they should be scoring in the 50s against South even with having a good defensive team. I agree HDE I do like Hayes as a person, he is a great guy, but he just cant coach a lick. I think a lot of his problem is he has no respect from the kids and the kids parents.
  12. Yes, this kid's range starts as soon as he steps inside the building it seems. Speaking of Jackson, why do they keep Hayes around? He has had nothing but talent for years?
  13. This is how I see things shaking up this year, just off the limb. 49th- The most weak district in the region. Clay will be the champion, North does not have much besides Seidell, but should be the runner up based on the fact that Jackson, Red Bird, and OBI are just way worse than they are. 50- South Laurel edges Corbin out in what seems to be the first of two classic battles 51st- Knox Central will be the champion, I look for Lynn Camp to be the runner up. A good, young hard working coach the Wildcats have. 52nd- Bell County will be the champion, Harlan County will be the runner up. Jones is a great coach, but I have no idea what kind of talent he will have after taking over the helm. Regional Tournament- Clay draws Corbin and losses to the Hounds in the first round causing a stir up in Manchester. In that side of the bracket Knox Central beats Harlan County setting up a semi final show down with Knox and Corbin. South thumps North, and Bell gets revenge on Lynn Camp from last season, setting up a South/Bell Friday night semi. South and Corbin meet in the final with South winning in a low scoring double overtime thriller. Regions Biggest Sleeper- Bell County, not a lot of people talking about them.
  14. Steve Wright flat OUT COACHED P, there is no way comparing teams and talent that South last year should have been within 15 points of Corbin. And who cares about being runner up it doesnt mean a thing. Look at the All A when he won it, a team like Corbin should breeze through the All A playing schools that are in it especially how weak those schools were that year.
  15. Corbin by far has the most talent in the region and on talent alone should win the region, but we all know sometimes they does not happen. I have to question their x's and o's. I mean last year in the regional tournament South threw a junk defense at them and all they had to do was get it to the middle and dump it down to Crawford, but the coach look like he had never seen a defense before. I am going with South Laurel, I do believe it is a mental thing for Corbin when it comes to playing South when it really counts.
  16. I am new to the site, but have kept up with this region for years. 1.South Laurel-Until you take it from them, they are still da game! 2.Corbin-Most talent in the region, another disappointing season could have Hounds fans looking elsewhere 3.Clay County-A lot of young talent, hopefully things have settled down with the refree situation this year, but with bringing a player in has to make you wonder if they arent up to their old tricks again? 4.Bell County-Real athletic team, could compete for it all 5.Knox Central-If the supporting cast developes for Miller, could this be the year they get over the hump I look for Harlan County to be much better than a lot of people think. Mike Jones is a very good coach that knows how to build a program. Middlesboro has just as much talent as anybody, but they havent had the right x's and o's for a while now. Why do they always hire someone that is not even qualified for the job? North will be led by Sediell, but I look for them to struggle. Lynn Camp should be much better. Whitley will be better as well.
  17. Has Whitaker ever been an assistant? I know he was the head man at Bell and Whitesburg. I do not know if he would take the back seat and be an assistant. What was with all the talk about Hatcher becoming the coach at Brethaitt and Spurlock from Clay becoming the coach at Perry, has it died?
  18. I am starting the campaign. With what he lost last season. To win his district, to win the region, and make it to Rupp Arena was truly remarkable for his squad after losing 86% of their offense from a year ago. The team had no varsity experience coming this season. He and Roscoe did a magnificent job.
  19. He is a very good coach, considering the cards that he was dealt with since becoming the coach in Manchester. The only thing I question is his temper, seems like it just really gets to him, and he does some crazy things. As well as I could not figure out this season, being so small, athletic, and full of energy why they did not play a full court game. I just think that he is in a bad position there, just where everyone compares things to the legend. And it seems they like home boys to lead their program. Also, his name has popped up as the lead candidate for Perry Central should that come open
  20. That is also on the rumor mill, if the coach at Perry goes to Brethaitt, look for Spurlock's name to come up in the Perry job. Especially, his ability to coach good against Holland. I hear if Clay gives him an altimatum that he will in fact take that job. I do totally agree with you lungbuster, far too many off the court issues for them as far as teams coaches, other teams players, other teams parents, just stick to the game and coach instead of challenging people all the time. I have no idea as far as the Clay job, if it comes open what will happen. The only information that I have heard is that if it comes open in a couple of weeks it will be offered to Messer at Clinton. I do not know if he takes it or not, because word is that he has a good young group there. Middlesboro is the latest rumor of a job that is coming open. Look for them to go after Strange at Pineville, or the girls coach Elgie Green.
  21. The latest from the 13th. Jackson- Still up in the air. They should make a move, but Hayes must have political ties. Look at his failure as a coach there. North-The official word has not come out yet, but Parrott will be their guy. Clay- Todd Messer's name has been floating around for taking the job in Manchester, and would be the perfect hire for them, if he wants to leave Clinton County. Knox- The latest is a new coach is a possibility, but look for Miller to end up at South Laurel, or possibly Hazard. Corbin- I believe Pietrowski is save, just on his name alone. I would not look for a change their unless what happen this year happens next year.
  22. This is all in the rumor mill. Clay Job- Some people are upset on how the program is being represented by the head coach. As far as having altercations with other district opponets and coaches. As well as what happen as far as the bargaining for officials. Mike Deaton's name has been bought up in what I have heard about this job. Jackson Job- Too much talent not enough X's and O's. Year after year it seems they give him one more chance, I do not look for that to happen this next year. Look for assistant Madden to possibly take over. Corbin- Corbin has a strong tradition and people seem to be upset with not getting back to the state tournament. And also, not winning the district as a clear odds on favorite. If this comes open there will be some high profile names apply. North- No post season. When the New AD took over he said that he wanted all programs to strive on the post season. The last two years it has been one and done for them. Look for assistant coach Parrott's name to come up in this job after the state tournament.
  23. I hear Clay, Jackson, Corbin, and North possibly in the 13th.
  24. PRP by a land slide on that one! I think Clay is hosting one is that true?
