If Powell keeps the game close in the first half Powell can win with the offense a good mixture they can keep a team off balance but the Powell defense is the key as well as special teams. I think this game is a toos up if the Pirates are within 7 at Halftime I predict Powell 35 Taylor 28

I am very aware of the game in question with the 89 free throws against number 1 ranked Louisville Shawnee I also know who was coaching at that time who you should know well Powell County did receive help and to the players credit they did hit their free throws and in a very important game in Powell County history we knocked off a #1 ranked team. The very next year we traveled to Louisville and paid the price! We did not cry over the game because we got what was expected on the road. And yes this still happens if you think it doesnt, just open your eyes. Unfortunately, the kids pay the price for adults to get the results they want. I am in no way saying that this is right but it is what it is sad but true. I have been around long enough to know that all the talk and gripping isnt going to change the way some things in sports are done. Everyone should know that this should be about the kids not the adults or officials but sometimes that is forgotten.

I was not able to attend the game but have heard about what is perceived to happen. First of all you can expect to go away to any school outside your region and should not expect any breaks. The history reported about all the records is there because a Powell County fan decided to list all records and I do believe if all schools listed all their records you would not see Powell Co with all the records. I believe the officials at this game were quality and the official that is talked about is a very honest official that when you make a little upset may give the other team a break. I have been on both sides of the coaching end I have felt my team has had breaks and My team has been on the short end of several games. I have come to realize over the years to accept the fact that some teams get breaks at home and the favor is returned on the road. It is not right for the kids but that is basketball in Kentucky. Also I heard the same reports from Powell County fans who traveled to Pulaski Co earlier in the season and My statement to them was we were on the road, Why expect breaks.

I have heard several names mentioned and I hear there are several quality applicants.

Is that Jackson City or Jackson County?

Coach Coldiron is an excellant basketball coach, he got a somewhat raw deal, but someone will pick him up and make themselves an great addition to their program. That being said good luck to Powell County in finding the right replacement.

In the 14th, it should be Hazard, Estill Co., and Letcher Central with some competition with Leslie Co., Breathitt, Lee and Powell.

Congratulations to the Powell County Pirates and their win, and nice job by Benningfield and the Pirate Defense. The offense put the ball in play and MC did not handle it well. Congratulations Coach Varney on your first win as head coach. Keep the guys going and continue the tradition of Powell County Baseball. Also Coach Feltner keep your kids heads up and hang in there. I think you will be ok in time.

I think he will be the front runner based on several reasons, but i believe the school may look outside for a new coach. Coach Coldiron is a good coach and will be missed. But you all are correct Coach Baker is also an excellant coach.
