JeterFan04 Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Powell wins in 5 innings with a score of 11-1. Benningfield went the distance going all 5 innings for the Pirates. Good way to start off the season.:dancingpa
jahearme Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Rough day in the field for the Indians. Compiled 6 errors, not including 3-4 pass balls. Tough to win games when that happens. A bright spot for the Indians was pitcher Brandon Poynter. With any help at all from his defense this game is much closer. Powell Co. has a solid team. I look for them to win several games in their district and region this year.
KIDS FAN Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Congrats to Coach Varney on his first win and hopefully many more to come. Montgomery Co. only had six errors? I counted 6 in the first 2 innings! Are they young?
jahearme Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Congrats to Coach Varney on his first win and hopefully many more to come. Montgomery Co. only had six errors? I counted 6 in the first 2 innings! Are they young? Start 3 seniors, 3 juniors, 1 soph, and 2 freshmen. You are right about the number of errors in the first 2 innings as well. Not many errors made after that. I look for the Indians to bounce back today with a win over Paris.
JeterFan04 Posted March 28, 2006 Author Posted March 28, 2006 The Indians will improve...they had a rough day in the field and at the plate...looked like they had to shake a little bit of rust off and get into the groove later in the game...powell didnt commit and error in the field.
GO15AROD Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Drove to Stanton to see this one. Powell was solid on defense with 3 seniors, 2 juniors and 4 sophs. Cory Benningfield was very good on the hill for Powell County allowing only 4 hits and one run. Coach Varney picks up first victory over Coach Marty Feltner (M.C. Napier) of Montgomery.

JeterFan04 Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 powell will face montgomery later on in the season @ montgomery, i look for them to be more prepared for the next matchup
gilligan Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Congratulations to the Powell County Pirates and their win, and nice job by Benningfield and the Pirate Defense. The offense put the ball in play and MC did not handle it well. Congratulations Coach Varney on your first win as head coach. Keep the guys going and continue the tradition of Powell County Baseball. Also Coach Feltner keep your kids heads up and hang in there. I think you will be ok in time.
