One may think that 16th region teams would willingly drop EC off the schedule this year, but more goes into them games for schools than winning and losing. Opposing school know that Elliott County fans are going to pack their gym every night, which means more money for that school. That is a big reason Elliott County is still on most 16th region team's schedule.

Once again, a school the size of Elliott County, scheduling is very hard. With that said, Elliott Co has made their schedule stronger. Playing atleast 3 of the nation's best teams at the Beach Ball Classic, WV's #1 team in the state in South Charleston, Mason Co., and Anderson Co. They also have potiental to play several top 25 teams at the All A Classic. They play East Carter twice in their region which, in my mind, is or will be a top 25 team in the state. They have also played a top 10 team and a top 25 team in the preseason. A tough schedule is important but like some others have said, in my mind, is a bit overrated.

You guys have got to understand that Elliott County isn't a top 5 team in the state year in and year out. They can't just drop every 16th region team off their schedule and then be left to play the best teams in the state next year with what they have coming back. They have to think about the future a little bit too. Elliott County has without a doubt updated their schedule this year, and will be challenged plenty. Everyone knows they play in the BBC, but also play the best team out of West Virginia in South Charleston. They play 8th region favorite Anderson County in the Montgomery County Shootout, and Mason County makes a trip to Sandy Hook in Feburary. They also have district foe East Carter twice, who will prove to be a top 25 team in the state before the year is out. Also, they will compete for a trip to the Class "A" State Tournament where they could be matched up with the likes of Shelby Valley, Hazard, Bardstown, etc. Most people think Coach Mays will probably be retiring after this year, leaving the program to long-time assitant Greg Adkins. How would it be fair to Coach Adkins and the group returning next year to leave them with a schedule full of top 10 teams to play? It doesn't have anything to do with the fear of losing or wanting to have a better record than anyone eles. This group of seniors have played alot of basketball and know what it takes to win. They will be ready come tournament time.

How do you know that Coach Mays requested not to play Scott Co.?

Fouls were kept. You couldn't have 5 fouls and still be playing.

Don't forget about guard Cody Nickel and 6'6 forward Jacob Ison, both sophmores. Both had a great showing last night.

I am almost certain the game did not get within 15 points the second half and am 100 percent sure the game was not with 10 in the second half.

Elliott's middle school team was made up of mostly 5th graders last year.

Ian is a quality golfer. He will do well at Morehead. Congrats! Morehead is bringing in a solid recruiting class. Word is Johnson Central standout Jo Whitaker, an all-stater, is close to signing with Morehead as well. Add Jared Flanery to that mix and you have a freshman class ready to make an impact very early.

Jared Flanery, Elliott County's number one golfer since 7th grade, signed his letter of intent to play at Morehead State University. Jared was a two time 12th region runner-up, a three time state tournament qualifer, and led Elliott County to its first ever state golf tournament appearance this past year. He was also a 5 time Daily Independent All-Area team selection, while taking Player of the year honors his junior and senior year. Congrats Jared. :thumb:

They play South Charleston in the KY Bank Shootout. SC will probably be the best team in West Virginia.

Unless the date has been changed, the scrimmage is on the 25th. This panaroma is always held the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

Yes it will. Regardless of how Elliott County fairs at the BBC, the challenges presented there is only going to better prepare them for a deep run come March, something that EC is obviously trying to make happen. On a side note, for them to be invited to such an event, which is regarded by many as the best christmas tournament in the nation, speaks volumes for the type of reputation Coach Mays' and his team has est. for themselves. Simply being part of this event is an accomplishment in itself for a high school most people had never heard of until this group of seniors came through. So to challenge any type of accomplishments or compliments brought about for this EC team or players, to me, is somewhat foolish(JMHO). You can say what you want about the region or teams they play, but the facts are those players have stepped up when it mattered most and delivered 2 straight 16th region championships(which happen to be the only two in school history). So whether or not they fit your mold as "clutch" players or not, you can't aurge what they have done for that school and community. They have more than a handfull of kids that will recieve college scholarships over the next 2 years, something very few schools across the state can say. And at the end of the day, isn't that what it is all about anyway? :thumb:

I disagree. Elliott Co has a 6'6 soph., not named Knipp, that could start for either one of those teams next year. He may get 5 minutes a game next for for Elliott Co. After this year, Elliott will have the best player in the region for 2 years and add that with some of the other young talent and I am confident you will see Elliott in the running for the region in 09/10 and 10/11. Really I dont even see how anyone on this board, other than the Elliott fans, could make any predicitions on how good Elliott will be after this year because you have only seen their players that will be on the team that year play very little.

They will be as good as anyone eles for the following 2 years once this years class graduates.

Who will be better in 09/10? You could make an arguement for a select few teams (Rose Hill, East Carter, Fairview) but you cant say that one team will be head and shoulders above them. In 10/11, I guess I could have use my words better than reginal favorite. What I meant by that is they will be as good as any team in the region that year and yes both years they will compete for the regional championship.

I agree. There is talent in the younger grades at Elliott County that have never had their chance to shine. Elliott is a top 3 team in 09/10 and will compete for the regional championship and in 10/11 they will probably be the favorite again.
