Elliott County's Schedule

Featured Replies

Do you think it benefits to play a tougher schedule.:fire::thumb::banana:

Strong competition will certainly allow a team, to see different types of systems, quickness, heights and coaching.

Getting to play several pressing teams, teams which play man and those which zone, are more important in developing your own talent. It really comes down to making your players, bring out their best ability and being able to play under pressure.

I've said this for years. Battle-tested generally equates to tournament-ready.

To me, the biggest and most important aspect of scheduling, is finding teams that will make your team play out of their style.

One aspect of strengthen any schedule, if the speed of some teams. You'll find many coaches, which are concerned with the lateral footwork and defensive speed of their opponent. It's impossible, to replicate that in practice.

So what nets said in the EC/MNH thread is totally off. Beings we are speaking of Elliott and knowing the comp they have played against in the last 6 or 7 years is it going to make a difference to them.

Plus who does and who does not consider the scheduling of

South Charleston, Cedar HillTX, Martin Luth., Anderson Co, Mason Co, and hopefully a couple of out of region teams in ALL A beefing up the schedule from the Elliott Co norm.

He said the following....
Although I don't want to totally disregard teams development by playing a tough schedule....

He's also addressing the issue, of in-game Coaching and the schedule not helping you win/lose that game. If you never play a pressing team, that is quick but meet one in the Region or Sweet 16, it will certainly be an adjustment in-game, that both Players and Coaches will have to make.

Elliott schedule is fine. Fans of other teams only complain because they see them as a threat that normally isnt there. Five years ago know one knew they existed so to speak.

Least not on the "talk about it level".

Once again, a school the size of Elliott County, scheduling is very hard. With that said, Elliott Co has made their schedule stronger. Playing atleast 3 of the nation's best teams at the Beach Ball Classic, WV's #1 team in the state in South Charleston, Mason Co., and Anderson Co. They also have potiental to play several top 25 teams at the All A Classic. They play East Carter twice in their region which, in my mind, is or will be a top 25 team in the state. They have also played a top 10 team and a top 25 team in the preseason. A tough schedule is important but like some others have said, in my mind, is a bit overrated.

Well you can take one verse of his post and make it mean about anything, but if you read it all he implied that it wouldnt make no difference to Elliott boys if they was playing the incredible hulk... they would bring the same game regardless of the "weak 16th region schedule". Their weak schedule is not they only basketball they play(they play national comp all summer for last 6 years) so I PERSONALLY say it don't amount to a hill of beans:thumb:

Then if it doesn't matter, then why do they play summer ball for the last 6 years. The reason is, to get better as a team and to face as many different styles of play possible.

No one is disagreeing, they won't "bring the same game", as you say but playing better competition, makes any group better prepared for the different styles of play.

I'll put it this way, did they play this type of competition before this talented group of young men developed....NO and that is the reason, they are playing in tournaments and this type of schedule.

Right , it doesn't amount to a "hill of beans". Next year Elliott will have to go back to their "normal" schedule. They play a tough schedule and and have the last two years, and with all the summer ball they play they have meant competion like many have not seen.

In some cases it does benefit to play a tougher schedule but it's not that important IMO if you have enough talent. It's really all about playing teams who do things you aren't accustomed to seeing, as Strike3 said. Last year Holmes only played 2 top 20 teams before the state tournament (Male and Covcath), and still made it to the state championship, knocking off two top 10 teams on their way. (#1 Lexcath, not sure where Paintsville was ranked 5-10)

Uh! That was the point! IMO Concerning Elliott's team, they don't need the tougher schedule in regular season because of 6 years of tough comp. on the national level seeing every press and defense known to man.:thumb:
