The only thing that Im basing the "fan talk" on is that apparently some little birdies let the word get out down there as well, just not in Harrodsburg/Danville.

There were phone callls, from Jaggers end, trust me (after the Henderson/Somerset situation), theres cell phone records to prove it. It's time to move on though, it has been, and Mercer is well on there way to moving on. Im not saying who, but I believe there is something that is trying to be worked out with a team in Tennessee (knoxville area) to fill the 2nd week. All I've been trying to do is share SOME (and I mean some) of the true insight to what was actually going on with the whole Mercer/Somerset thing. It's done, it's over, it's been over. I dont think Somerset will miss a beat in the new 3A, best of luck!

You're right about that one, one would be foolish to argue that.

I hear ya there Kemo. We know how you feel up here in Mercer. As of right now, I think only 5 of Mercer's 22 starters will be Seniors.

The only time Jaggers wasn't "pestering" Cobb was during those couple, few weeks while Cobb was interviewing, accepting, deliberating, changing his mind and the whole unfortunate changes of heart that him and his family was having to deal with during that time with the Henderson job. Jaggers knew that he had way bigger fish to fry during those days and respected that fact. Therefore, Jaggers didn't worry about it, afterall, the last time they had talked, whether it be over the email or phone, it sounded like everything was all, but written in stone. Heres another little bit of info for you al to think on. You talk about Jaggers should have given a timeline for Cobb to sign a contract or else he could have found Mercer another game. Well, guess who had contacted Mercer about playing that same week, only after Jaggers and Cobb had apparently agreed to play?!?!??? Metcalfe County. Guess who Somerset somewhere in the mix of all things had scheduled to play now?? Metcalfe County. (Metcalfe is in NO WAY guilty for anything either, I just didnt want anybody to think I was implying that by throwing that out there)

If you call Mercer scoring 4 times to Somerset's 0, then ok:creepy: ?! Not to mention that Mercer had outscored them like that while Mercer was in the second week of tinkering with an option type offense. They hadnt even practiced the wishbone to that point, the offense that they ran 90% of the time in 2006.

Well, let's see here, I put the words "guess" and "assumption" (they mean the same thing ) and made the word "guessumption" out of it (actually, i didnt, I'd seen it somewhere :jump: ). Then I went onto making sure that you weren't puting much on that guess of yours (mercer only winning 5 games)..."puting much on"=bet. Lastly, I went onto tell you that I was making a solid prediction that YOU would practically be crazy to think that Mercer would ONLY win 5 games.

Maybe because he thought that after playing a coach and his team for the past 9 years, and the relationship developed after all of that, that maybe, just maybe, when that same coach emails you asking if you want to play and reply with an "ok", then maybe he took that to be "official". I dont think Jaggers would be alone in that category. Again, I ask you, why would some of the Somerset faithful be talking about the game, a week after the emails, like it was already SET IN STONE?!? Somebody please answer that one for me, logically. Last thing I remember, some of the parents from Somerset were walking towards their car in the parking lot down at McQueary Central, and said "We'll see y'all in the fall." Apparently, it had been made official down there in one sense of the other. Im done with this thread, and would have been, if people not really associated with either program, or even there own programs for that matter, wherever they are, didnt get on here and comment on a situation that they have absolutely no clue about. Truth be told, I dont know all myself, but I definately know more than my fair share.

Jaggers didnt make it "official". All I know is this, Mercer played Somerset in the semis of the regional baseball tourney and talk of the football game between the two was already being talked about amongst fans. That was the week after Memorial Day weekend. So, apparently, the cat had gotten out of it's bag down in Camp Somerset too??!!!:sssh:

I hope you're not puting a lot on that 'guessumption'?!? Ill just go ahead and break the bad news to you, because Mercer ONLY winning 5 games has NO SHOT in you can guess where of happening. I havent made one single claim on how Mercer will do this year, but that one will be my first.

Ill be honest with you, I dont think it matters whether it would be Henry Clay or some team from The Sisters of the Poor. Having your 10th game, in this case the 11th week (week before playoffs) as an open date is VERY SMART. As a matter of fact, here is guessing that is the same reason why Henry Clay along with Mercer and others probably chose to have that game as there initial off week. Mercer's last few games are going to be against Boyle, South Laurel, Hopkinsville (at Hoptown) and Rockcastle County, so noone can say that they are dodging the competition factor, that's for dang sure (not saying you said that, but just in case some out there are thinking that, which Im sure that there are).

I dont know much about them, but I do know they did get one helluva transfer from Mercer County. Tyler Mays (ATH) 5'8 155, Jr., played as a back-up last year at RB and DB for Mercer, if it hadnt have been for Ford, Jackson, etc., he would have seen a lot more playing time. This past track season, Tyler was turning in 100 and 200 times that were as fast as Ford, he also won the region in the 400. He was going to be Mercer's fastest player and probably the most talented returner. He is going to be GREATLY, GREATLY missed..the Titans loss will definately turn into a huge game for Madison Central. Tyler, best of luck buddy, we miss you, but wish you nothing but the best!!

Only a fool would admit that the things that happened last year werent helped by the merger. At the sametime, I believe Mercer would have been more successful than what most give them credit for. Even with the merger, 8 of Mercer's starters on "D" were orignal Mercer players, and they also would have returned Griffith and Walker. (950 Yds and 1,500 yds rushing in '05) They also would have returned a #5 that ran the machine this year, isnt that right JoeDirt?! So, IMO, Mercer would have been sucessful, how much, who knows, then again..who cares, nobody here, that's for sure, b/c this was a story written for Hollywood. Im not even going to get into a discussion about that, though, because the things that happened this past year was nothing more than a blessing from above; to the community, the kids, the coaching staff and the players. Because trust me, if they had been apart of this thing last year and even what is going on now, they would be making the comments that are made. A group of 90, 14-18 year olds changed the mindset of a community, boys that grew up wanting to beat the other in everything came together, played, got along and acted in a way as thought they had been best of friends all of their lives. People that werent involved on the staff, played or not have lived in this community don't have a clue what transpired this past year. (PurplePride, I realize I went on and rambled just a little bit :thumb: )

Do I this year? No. The entire "skilled" position kids will all be new starters, except for Griffith, the rest are the J.V guys from last year. Also, not to mention the loss of few kids named Cory Jackson, Brandon Ford and Donald Walker. You might have noticed them?!:jump: :thumb:

No, Mercer doesnt run the veer, they ran the wishbone last year if that's what you were implying when you mentioned they run the same type of offense? In '93, a Jaggers wishbone team at Lincoln County beat a Warren Central team in the '93 AAA State-Semis. Im sure you've heard of the Dragons down the road from your purples, haven't ya?! You talk about scoring quickly as those who pass, in '98, when Jaggers was the O.C in his first year at Danville, the ADS ran the wishbone and beat LexCath in the Regional-Finals, who had already gone to that wide-open offense, 28-26. Danville, I think, might have passed the ball 5 times that game. You know who they beat in the following week?! Breathitt County, 31-14. A wishbone, highly run dominated team, beat 2 of the best "air it out teams" in the state that year, back-to-back. This year, in 2006 Mercer beat Owensboro Cathollic this past year, 46-0, the previous class AA state-runners up, I dont know about you, but I would say that if a thread on here was started up, talking about "Top passing Offenses across the state, regardless of class", then the ACES would definately be in the mix of that conversation.

5,780 rushing yds., if you're just talking about the YARDS alone, despite class will get it done ANYWHERE. Secondly, why everybody thinks that the wishbone and Run, run, run, run, run, run and very seldom pass is the only thing that Jaggers likes or knows what to do is WAY beyond me, but if that's what some choose to think, then think. I dont have the first clue as to why people think you have to throw the ball just for the sake of throwing it, especially when you're averaging anything over 8 yds. or so per carry ( Mercer last year averaged about 13 yds./carry, but that was last year, in the past)...

I wasn't meaning the "mid 90's", I meant, the '96 year alone. Im not sure about Franklin, Harrison and Montgomery that year and if they played any teams in that 3A NKY district, but Lincoln played and beat Ryle in '93, '94 and '95.

I thought that Coach Haley took Bryan Station, wasn't for sure. I was terribly wrong for not mentioning the other names, but in any case, all of those are GREAT COMPANY!

Yeah, I dont know of the first person from Mercer County who has claimed that the Titans will run the table in 5A, or even close. The first thing that people need to realize about the team this year, 5A or 2A, is the amount of YOUTH and INEXPERIENCE that the Titans have. Other than the offensive line, the rest of the team with the exception of a couple are fixin to have their first chance to shine. Determining what is and whats not a successful season is tough, because like you said Warrior, there are tons of scenarios for that evaluation. All Im going to say, and what I think most of the Mercer fans, coaches feel is that this Mercer team in the new 5A will be a lot more of a force and have a chance to do some good things in the playoffs than MOST on here think...IF, these young, inexperienced, FULLY capable skill kids continue to get better everyday, everyweek, every game.

Here is guessing that between May 21st and the following 3-4 weeks, Im guessing that Cobb was more concerned with what his future might hold as far as a JOB goes, and rightfully so, that was a whole lot bigger fish to fry. Jaggers respected that, which is why he didnt bother Cobb with it during those weeks. Just a little somethin', somethin' to think about.:jump:

Find me a good list of first time coaches, within there first 5 years of being a HC that have a winning percentage above 75%. Im guessing that it might not be a very long one, and if it is, I bet more than anything that you'll find some GREAT coaches within that list. Don't you think?? Secondly, here is guessing that Jaggers record is a helluva lot better that your record has or ever will be. So, why you think you should comment on someone else's achievments or lack of in what you are saying, is beyond me. Also, I want to add this...I realize that "if's" are exactly that, "if's", but since those and other scenarios are thrown around all too often on this site, I just figured I go with the flow just one time. So, here goes, if you take away Jaggers' 2-8 season in '96 ( a season where Ill once again mention that he didnt have much choice than to start 3 freshman on both sides of the ball, in by far the toughest district in 3A that year...Franklin County, Harrison County and Montgomery Co all were ranked in the top 10 of 3A the WHOLE year, Montgomery got beat by Hoptown in the semis) and this past years 15-0 season at Mercer (I just figured that since Jaggers, the rest of his coaching staff and the players don't truly get the credit they deserved this year from most, that I would disregard it this one time as well?!), Jaggers record in 6 years as a head coach is 59-19, a percentage of 75.6% (His first year at Mercer, 2005, BEFORE the merger, Mercer went 10-2...best record in school history, pre-merger, and the first playoff win at the school in 17 years). Heres some more history for you. Can you name the head coaches across this state who have taken more than one team to the State-Finals with 2 different schools?! Tom Duffy- Danville and Highlands Joe Jaggers- Trigg County and Ft. Knox Pat Gates- Crittenden County and Caldwell Dudley Hilton- Bell County and Bourbon Co. Dan Haley- Paducah and Bowling Green Marty Jaggers- Lincoln Co and Mercer Co.(not counting the 5 appearances as the OC at Danville, 3 state championships) Im thinking that there is one other, I could be wrong, but if Im not I sincerely apologize the the coach that I left out! Now, of those 6, yes, all of them but Jaggers did win it all with both teams, still though, that's a pretty dang good class to be in.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, Beechwood took a pretty good shalacking from Danville in '03, 43-0 to be exact, 500 yards offense= 500 yards passing, with only one pass attempt. How was that for a predictable offense?! I know, Beechwood returned the favor the next year, but nothing even close to what had happened the year before.
