  1. That's a good story Ram95...Reminds me of a coach that helped me with a grade school team...This coach played College ball as a lineman and had a lot of experience..The first day of practice he told me that he wanted to take all the "fat kids" to the side and talk to them....He shared with those kids about how he was the little fat kid and how he was teased...he then quickly informed them that the football field is the fatman's world and nothing can happen on the field without the fatman making it happen....he made them forget about their size and how they were teased...he gave them strength,,,and those boys would eat a bucket of nails if that coach wanted them too....I had to paraphrase his speech...if you were there and saw the awesome reaction of these kids you would understand the power and strength that he gave them...it was not perceived as an insult by any of them
  2. Notre Dame has also had supporters talking about academic standards and their hinderances, but they have been competing. Manual has also been competing in recent years.
  3. I have to agree 100 % on that fact about some smart kids not being good test takers....It also made me think about another point...... some kids do not have the drive to succeed at a high academic school regardless of their smarts. One of you made a point about these kids being invovled in other after school activities...I find that very valid also.... I made the point about smart kids being a plus because I used to help coach grade school and I had some great athletes that were very talented but had a lot of trouble grasping some our concepts...we had to adapt to their needs which we did...but that did hold up our overall progress. We also had some great athletes that were sharp as tacks and the team progressed at a much faster pace. I do understand and can see your unique obstacle...I wish I could offer a fix-all solution.....and while I'm not that gifted...I certainly know that there is no such thing as a fix-all.....That came with age!! What recruiting efforts are being made within the school for more participation? (I am certainly not trying to start a recruiting dig here)
  4. I have read a lot of posts from Manual supporters about the "nerds" and smart kids and how they do not make good football players. Excuses are made about this. Can someone from Manual please explain this to me. Notre Dame has very stringent academic requirements and they have been successful.....Doesn't an intelligent player make a better player...reading defenses, understanding formations, techniques...etc??? You do not have to worry about academic casualties with these players. X has a more stringent academic policy than what is required...they also have (I believe) 4 merit finialists on the varsity team....I see more intelligent players as a plus ...not a minus....please explain...there may be something here that I just don't understand....after all I did not go to Manual....on the outside looking in.
  5. Trinity has scored 470 points this year...that's an average of almost 43 points a game. Fern Creek has scored 301 for a 27 point average. FC would have to hold Trinity to almost half of its average and score their average to beat T. They couldn't hold T in their first meeting (37) so I really don't see KJ making enough of a difference to give FC a chance.
  6. I believe that the X freshmen had 93 this year.
  7. Being in a profession that constantly receives press...esp. bad press....let's all remember what any newspaper's true job is......to sell newspapers....that will in turn bring in more advertising dollars....Reporting the news is not....
  8. I pick Male in this one.....I think the margin of victory will be based on who scores first. If JH scores first they will gain valuable confidence that they can win.....If Male scores first and fast JH will fold and it could get out of hand....The paper today had JH acting as if they have no chance..happy to have just one their 1st game....An early score by the bulldogs will justify that belief.
  9. T wins big......by at least 3 TDs.....Trinity was able to run last time......they didn't have to pass....which they do very well....FC can pick their poison....They won't be able to stop either....
  10. Manual is a very good team and I doubt very seriously that anyone would overlook them....Speed kills and the crimsons have plenty of it....Luckily for the Tigers....our top speed back will be playing in the rematch......X wins in another battle...Vic proves to be the difference.....X 34 M 21
  11. I have to admit that Ram's point about focus has me more than a little worried. Being undefeated is nice and all...but the real prize is that trophy. A loss adds a little fire in your heart!!!
  12. Runfirst.....There is another point here also....How many public school kids who played in a Catholic school league (because of parish membership) play on public school teams? Are these kids public or private property??? Let them play where they want to play!!
  13. As far as the whole Indiana Catholic school opportunties.......At least two Indiana Catholic grade schools compete in the Louisville Catholic Schools Athletic Association..... Floyd County Catholic and St. Anthony. Some of these students continue on to Louisville Catholic High Schools. Check the LouCSAA website for confirmation. Many Louisville families have moved to the so-called "sunny side of Louisville" Once again....This is America.....It was founded on choice.....Parents should be able to choose what school system is right for their child regardless of religion, price, or location without being punished for that decision.
  14. X has the Excel program and Trinity (I've been told) has special programs also for academically challenged students. The advantages that the Privates have in these programs is the same point that Frances has been making on this thread. Disruptive students are not tolerated. These students can be perceived as special needs and grouped as such. Thus, further delaying academic progress. Like I have previously posted: My wife and I each had children through previous marriages. One set went to public and the other set went to private. They all go to private now. We work two jobs to fund this. The reason is one word....Behavior. The teachers in both systems were very competent and motivated. The opportunities to excel were present in both systems. The odds to succeed, however, were higher in the private system, because of the discipline. Disruptions are not tolerated. Rules and goals are set. We had numerous problems in the public system with 2 particular male (sex, not the H.S.) students disrupting my daughter's classes...The teacher showed great frustration in her ability to control the situation. The system was flawed not the teachers.
  15. LLBC quote : I been told time and time again public schools are about educating and not preparing for the real world. The real world includes final, harsh penalties for improper behavior and we don't have that in public schools. We are basically not allowed to expel students unless they are a danger to the school. Does not matter how much they act up and disrupt the education process. Special ed students can only be suspended for a max of 10 days in a year NO matter how much they misbehave. And you can't expel them without providing some sort of teaching service, no matter their behavior. That is not the real world either. Great post and comment....My wife went to a public school and I went to private. We were both previously married with children. Her children(I hate that because they are really ours) went to public grade school and mine went to private. There was absolutely no difference in the quality of teachers between the schools. The difference was discipline and the constant disruption of some children. The teachers were really frustrated with their lack of options. That is the reason that all of our children are now enrolled in private schools. Our boys would have gone to X because of long family tradition anyway...but their was no such tradition established for our girls.
  16. It is obvious by my screen name who I support. I was very much against this Prop because it feels like we (the private schools) are being punished for accusations that have never been proven. After reading Rowdy's question, I have cooled down and tried to be optomistic about how this could benefit the Private schools. I believe that the Big 2 could use the schedule (mostly) posted by the rowdy red ram. They could schedule more national powerhouses like Moeller, Bell Academy, Cinn St.X and others that are on Sports Illustrated top 25 list. This would only lift the prestige and national attention that these schools could receive. X has already been honered by SI as the 14th(or was it 16) best H.S. sports program in the nation. It would also be a giant draw for kids that have the skills and aspirations to play Div I ball. After all, would you wanna play for a team that will get national attention from college scouts or a team that won the state's B-division championship? With all of this attention that X and T will be getting, they will draw even more public schools kids. X and T could expand even more. These schools along with Sacred Heart and Assumption already have a greatly disportionate academic advantage over the public schools. The latest rankings have KY public schools ranked 37th among the other states. The 4 private schools mentioned above have been named one year or another to the President's Top 40 high schools in the country in the past 10 years. Some have been on that list twice! So why would any parent not want to give their kid that kind of advantage?? The kids know who the "real" state champion is...whoever wins the private game. Male and Manual will lose all opportunties to became true state champions, because everybody will say....yeah you won...but you couldn't have beaten X or T. Whereas X and T can say we always beat M and M...so much that they had to whine and creat their own state championship so they could win. The gap has just been widened!! Excuses are for losers..for people who are afraid to succeed because they are afraid to fail!!
