The public schools do not feel they own these students, they DO reasonably expect kids in their feeder schools to attend their high school unless these kids "voluntarily" decide to attend a private/parochial school. There are many good reasons to attend a private school. However, these reasons should not be whispered in the ears of above-average athletes by those connected to high school athletic programs. I can not speak for the reasoning behind the leaders on the public school side, but I can speak for a number of public school coaches in the Louisville area that don't get all worked up when a kid "chooses" to attend a private school as long as the choice is not unduly influenced. North Bullitt and other public schools have had a good number of athletes in their "feeder" schools decide to attend parochial schools in Jefferson. The problem or anger arises when those schools visit the Bullitt County Youth League to scout for football players, then have former players, parents, grandparents, or "friends of the program" invite them to shadow. This has happened countless times in the past (and still continues to a lesser extent) and one school, Holy Cross, was finally penalized and had their head coach removed. One reason, IMO, the public school side was against the funding of the compliance department offered as a compromise by the privates was the legitimate complaint by the publics that the KHSAA consistently fails to use the investigators they already have. Adding investigators would do nothing to help alleviate complaints when many complaints fall on deaf ears. Once again, when the delegate assembly vote for separation nearly passed in Oct. 2005, private school leaders should have seen the writing on the wall and taken steps to passify the majority. IMO, they arrogantly ignored this warning. It is naive to believe that "persuasion" activities conducted by some coaches, alumni and "friends of the program" of private schools does not occur. The problem is that a lot of this activity goes on as quietly as possilbe and proving it sufficiently to get the KHSAA to investigate is difficult. It took 2 years of complaints and prodding by North Bullitt officials to get the KHSAA to finally penalize Holy Cross for their illegal contact with Bullitt County Youth League players. The privates know they can do a lot to "attract" players without any consequence. Prosposal 2 was intended, IMO, to put up another barrier to these activities. It is a shame that it had to come to this.

I believe the anger of the many public school officials was equally split between their frustration with the ineptness of the KHSAA in investigating and prosecuting those guilty of infractions and the arrogant behavior of many private school officials. One "corrective action" imposed on a small parochial Jefferson County school found guilty of illegal recruiting a couple of years ago was not allowing the head football coach to be the admittance counselor. That could have been a reasonable voluntary step all privates could have taken. The head football coach should not be the contact person for admittance to the school when the KHSAA bylaws seem to forbid this type of contact with prospective student-athletes according to case situations of Bylaw 10 in the KHSAA handbook. The head coach at St X also currently serves as the Director of Admissions????? I realize that some public schools are also guilty of this type of misconduct and they should be held just as accountable. I also believe that the perception among the majority of delegates is/was that privates were much more blatant in their attempts to improve their situation using public school kids that didn't grow up in the parochial system.

IMO, although I agree this will likely be a nightmare, the privates have largely brought this upon themselves. When the delegate assembly vote dealing with these issues almost passed two years ago, the private school leaders could and should have taken steps to improve their image within the delegate assembly. They didn't, now they have this.

North Bullitt vs. Bullitt East in final regular season game of '05 was the best ever in Bullitt County. North drove the length of the field in final minutes, scored with 18 seconds left, had a unsportsmanlike penalty (bogus) called on TD and scored 2 pt conversion from 18 yd line. Both teams scored in 1st OT, East won after stopping North at 1 yd line on 4th down in 2nd OT.

Totally agree that North will be a solid team with a lot to prove come playoff time. The others you mentioned have already proven themselves.

Agree it has to be more effective overall, but Reynolds did pass for 550 yds while only starting the last 4 games of the season.

North Bullitt should be one of the better teams in 4A next season. They return District Player of the year in Junior-to-be RB Dalton Cissell who rushed for 2,143 yds last season (#4 in state). 2 time first team All-District safety R.D. Reynolds returns and will be the full-time QB after combining for over 1,500 all purpose yds as a junior. 2 time first team All-District Off. tackle Corey Downing (6'1" 280 lb) returns to lead a very good line. Will find out a lot about North early as they play Lexington Lafayette and Shelby County in the first three weeks of the season.

Another major problem with spring practice in Kentucky is that the wise KHSAA ties the participation window to the schools success (or lack of it). The window of 15 days begins the Monday following the date both basketball teams end their season. So schools that bow out of post-season this week will begin their window next Monday while schools whose teams advance to Sweet 16 will start their window much later. Hopefully, winter won't return in the next week or so.

Trintiy and Scott County dominated the team competition. North Bullitt sophomore RB Dalton Cissell won his weight class for the 3rd meet in a row in the 195 lb class and won the Bench Press award with 365 lbs. Also posted a 275 power clean and a 405 lb Squat. Cissell will try to improve on last years 3rd place showing in State Power meet in March and will also attend the Nike combine the following week and the National Underclassman Combine for Freshmen and sophomores in April.

Cissell is 5'10" and currently weighs about 197. He is the centerpiece as anyone who rushed for 2,143 yds as a sophomore would be. However, what made North better late in the year and what will make them very dangerous in '08 is that R.D.Reynolds is now the QB. Reynolds had nearly 1,300 yds himself last year rushing, passing and receiving. :fight:

Glazier puts on a lot better clinic, there were quite a few coaches from Louisville up in Cincy for that one.

East will be a better team if they find a QB that run the offense effectively and a RB that will mix it up. However, they will need a lot of improvement to get past North that returns 9 starters on offense and 8 on defense from a team that manhandled East in the mud bowl. They will be better still in '09 but will still have to find a way to stop possibly the best RB in state in '09 (Dalton Cissell). North will lose a lot around him after next season but will still have a very solid offensive line to run behind.

He weighed in at 199 yesterday and competed in the 205 lb class. Will likely drop a few pounds to compete in lower weight class at State meet this year. Could you please delete my duplicate post. TY

North Bullitt Junior-to-be RB Dalton Cissell who rushed for 2,143 yds in his sophomore season won his weight class at the Meade County Strength meet in January and won his weight class at the Spencer County Power meet yesterday. Cissell, who tied for 3rd in last years State Power meet, set new personal bests in the bench and deadlift while taking the Outstanding Lifter Award for the upper weight classes. Cissell posted a 335 lb Bench and a 555 lb Deadlift.

MH is correct. East's offense has had great power runners for a long time with Corey Rakes being the most recent one whose abilities went hand-in-hand with the veer. This year, they didn't have a back that wanted to "mix it up" in the middle. Nor did they have a line that could push other teams around like they have had in recent years. No doubt they will get back to basics and find ones that can do the job. Look for them to finish 2nd in the new district this coming season to the "other" team in Bullitt County.

Hired former PRP and Bullitt Central head coach Danny Leasor. He will do a very good job at his old school.
