time2punt Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Trintiy and Scott County dominated the team competition. North Bullitt sophomore RB Dalton Cissell won his weight class for the 3rd meet in a row in the 195 lb class and won the Bench Press award with 365 lbs. Also posted a 275 power clean and a 405 lb Squat. Cissell will try to improve on last years 3rd place showing in State Power meet in March and will also attend the Nike combine the following week and the National Underclassman Combine for Freshmen and sophomores in April.
giantkiller Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 the Cissell kid is very strong. I don't have all the numbers but know that Randy Morris from Grant Co. Benched 345, Cleaned 250 and Squated 450. that is impressive as well for a running back. He was in the 220 weight class I believe. He is a junior, who I was told could squat over 500 LBS.
CentreRocks Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Do you have any of the participants for Trinity?
tcat25 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Is lifting this weight at a power meet any different than in a weightroom "maxing out?" I'm not trying to degrade any power lifters, I'm just wondering if their is a different technique or something?
time2punt Posted February 26, 2007 Author Posted February 26, 2007 Same idea as maxing out -- 3 attempts to get your highest weight amount in proper form
GR8BigBull Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I may not understand the question BUT the powerlifting meets are "basically like" maxxing out in the weightroom. The big difference is trying to lift the most weight you may have ever attempted, in front of a few hundred other lifters and spectators. You see other high school weightlifters lifting more extreme weights and using various techniques and you can measure your self against them. The competition gets intense but you will see many lifters from many different schools across the state rally around a lifter getting ready to try for a personal best. You can see these high schoolers cheer for a lifter attempting an outrageous amount of weight for a person their size. By the way Manual took third in this meet (just like the Meade County Meet) only 10-12 points out of second place. Scott County had several real impressive lifters and Trinity (as always) has "the most" lifters per weight class and they are very disciplined, stong young men. Their 125, 135, 145 weight classes have some of the strongest pound for pound kids I have seen with great technique in all lifts.
tcat25 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I would really love to attend one of these, can anyone tell me of a meet near the Ashland area sometime in the near future?
Son of Bear Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 ^Paul Rains used to put on a weightlifting competition when he was at Madison Central that I think he has continued at LCA.
oldonetechnique Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Franklin County took 15 lifters, mostly underclassmen and middle schooler each kid done well personally and improved maxes. The Newland kid got third in the Heavy weight division with and won best Power Clean Award with 300.
SPORTS MAN Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I would really love to attend one of these, can anyone tell me of a meet near the Ashland area sometime in the near future? Well their not high school only meets but you can see a USPF powerlifting meets that has all age groups. The WV state meet is in Charleston during march. The Ky state meat is in Prestonsburg during april. Theres also the NASA state meet in paintsville during march. These are powerlifting meets though. Just squat, bench and deadlift. No olympic lifts.

Its usually a pause rep bench and a parellel squat with judges.
