I have long said that Calvary Christian could be a sleeping giant. If they could get the non-Catholic Christians in NKY to attend the Christian school, wow, the powerhouse it could be.

We hear about the legends of coaches in NKY. We hear about the great players in NKY. But a poster made the point of lack of success of coaches competing at the state level. Got me to thinking, so I did some research and from the KHSAA page, only ONE NKY team has ever made it to the championship game. Jim Higgins' Highlands team of 1994 that had Jamie Walz on it. What is the reason for the lack of success of NKY teams at the state tournament? Overrated, not as good of basketball in NKY as they think, something else?

A poster made a point in a girls basketball thread and it got me to thinking, so I did a little research. We always here how good basketball is in NKY but over the past 29 years, only 5 times did a NKY team make it to the championship game. Simon Kenton (1981) and Holmes (2009) have won it. Holmes (1990 & 2008) and Highlands (1997) have been runnerup. I would think that an area the size of NKY and the supposed talented teams from NKY, there would be more appearances and championships from the NKY area. What is the reason for NKY not having the success at the state tournament that it should?

Good point. Going back over the state winners/runnerups, only Jim Higgins at Highlands with a pretty good basketball player on his team in 1994 was able to make it to the championship game.

Not sure there was a blanket feeling of wanting him gone rather than just a MASSIVE conflict between Coach Kues and AD Mel Webster.

Bracken has a walk to the finals. Top bracket is loaded. Deming/BB should be an entertaining game. Paris/St. Pat play in game could have been the final game. That top bracket will be entertaining.

Bracken County should be the favorite for Class A. Has the draw for the A tournament been held? Where is it played this year?

Coach Darpel is a class act and I wish her great times watching her children play.

It would be nice to have the state championships in all the sports shipped around the state for all residents of the state to enjoy in them.

I cannot emphasize enough what a great young man he was. This is the 2nd child that Rick and Judy Elrod has lost. The first was an infant, I believe. I cannot imagine their hurt.

Prayers of comfort and wisdom to the Elrod and Kelsch families. Stephen was an organ donor and through this horrible time, many are finding a new life tonight through Stephen's loving gift. Even in his untimely death, Stephen demonstrated the quality of character in this young man.

Tammy Roseberry was assistant under Scott Collins and there is an assumption that should would apply. Not alot of experience with fastpitch softball in the county to draw on.

Aren't several of those teams in their NKAC conference and they have to play them every year? Scott and Brossart are district foes, so, they would have to schedule them. Who are the ones that the previous coaches were ducking? And honestly, CCHS has always seemed to have Brossart envy. Fans very much afraid of Brossart being more successful than them. And they overreact because of it.

Funny, I thought the HC meant Harrison County.

John High is in retirement but I think one school almost lured him out this spring/summer.

In an urban setting. A rural setting could have open enrollment and it ain't changing a thing.

Yes, Mr. Thomas Woofter, elected into both the girls' and boys' 10th Region Hall of Fame, retired from serving as PCHS' AD. Kay Mudd was named AD and will serve that role for the PCHS and for Sharp Middle School while I believe also retaining her teaching duties at Sharp Middle School.

It would seem that a program like Sacred Heart with a #2 finish in cross country, #8 finish in Golf, #2 finish in Swimming, #5 finish in Track/Field and a #2 finish in Volleyball should be given serious consideration as the top program in the state if we don't have a gender bias. Their last 20 year history of athletic excellence is as strong as anyones.

Does it seem that SI didn't consider the female side of the athletic program since St. X is a boys' only school, correct?

On the bolded, was having a discussion this spring about this requirement that in theory sounds nice but in reality is stupid. Baseball coaches, a person who has never even watched a baseball game but has a college degree would be eligible to be coach. Someone like Ken Griffey Jr who went from HS to professional baseball would not be.
