Thoughts and Feelings about Islam and Muslims
ladiesbballcoach replied to Crazy Horse's topic in Kentucky / National Politics
Honestly, I do very little thinking about Muslims and Islam in my life. The only time I really give it any thought at all would be when there is a national story or a thread on here about it. -
State Wide Smoking Ban Proposed

Actually it is not what you posed above. Since we as a society says that when a private owner INVITES the public onto their property as customers, we as a society have the right to demand certain safety and health issues be followed. Look at OSHA, plumbing/heating/electric regulations. The question is does smoking fit into the umbrella of health and safety issues that the government can mandate laws on it like they do with the questiion of "Where does the businesses sewage run to when it goes out of the building?" -

Can't agree with the bolded. We pick up trash in our rural county twice a year for a fundraising (get paid $50 per mile) and the trash we see is mostly soft drink and beer containers as well as fast food bags/food containers. -
Boone County Schools Face $8M Deficit

As far as running the district, each county gets the same amount of dollars PER STUDENT. It would seem that if most can get by on running a district on the an amount of money per student, it would see it should be something that can be done by all. That would be the logic behind the funding forumla. -

Interesting question would be to see how Fayette County and Jefferson County is doing financially. If they are okay, it would seem logical to suggest that Boone County could do it. If they are struggling, then I think there is probably true concern there. -

I made that switch a couple of years back when they resigned Chris Henry. The Steelers are everything the Bengals should be. -

And no one is forcing smokers to go to restaurants that don't allow smoking. -

But the decision on the smoking issue is a HEALTH issue and in no way a financial issue that you are raising. As far as the car scenario raised by Stumbo, I am not supportive of that at all. The 2200 calorie meals for children and what the parents allow them to eat is more of a problem than being stuck in a car for the 3-5-10 minute drive. -

Well first off your question shows your lack of knowledge of education funding. Money to be used for building schools is a TOTALLY separate pot of money than the money used to operate schools. SEEK money is NOT used to build schools. That is through some bonding issue and then I think a matching that the state does after they have approved the plans for the new school. The funds involved in the argument would be SEEK funds BUT NOT money to build schools. Two totally different pots of money. -

I found it very interesting that so many Dems/liberals/whatever immediately think they all the conservatives that disagree with them religiously watch the bolded ones. Couldn't sleep last night and was flipping through the channels and settled on Hannity in the middle of the night. Watched 2 minutes and hurt my ears, so I went to a Criminal Minds rerun. It was a good move. Watched 3 or 4 of them before I got back to sleep. -

On a side note, not sure at any time in all of the discussions in P & R, I have ever read a statement that indicates the government SAVED money.:D:lol::lol: -

So, that is NOT taking money from Boone County and giving it to other counties. You guys are making it sound like that the taxes paid by Boone County citizens are sent to other school districts. Rather the allotment given to Boone County is reduced based upon their committment at the local level. That system is setup based upon on a court decision in the early 90's that the education funding system in KY was unconstitutional. Several NKY districts were part of the lawsuit that got the old funding system thrown out. -

So, Property tax money is being taken from Boone County and sent to other districts? I am not sure that is happening. Now, if they are talking about state income tax and state other taxes that the state takes up and then redistributes, well they do that for everything and not just schools. -

Please explain why you feel it is not relevant. The point that has been trying to be made is that alcohol is legal but there are restrictions on serving it. Contrary to the point being made that smoking is legal so there shouldn't be any restrictions made on it. -

Finally, someone gets the real point. This I can agree on and then an honest debate can happen. It is not that we can't infringe on the owner's right to private property but rather what bugatti has stated above. -

Wow. That is something. Never heard of one that extreme. I know in schools, especially elementary, they have to be real careful on all of those parties they have on what is being brought in. -

My understanding is that the fumes from a reese cup wouldn't make the person sick. And the fumes are not going to last for a long period of time.
