This is on the boys' side. I don't know the situation on the girls' side of the district.

Walton is not in the NKY MS League who is playing their conference tournament that weekend UNLESS snow this week moves the last week of regular season back. On that Friday and Saturday the four teams that won their district will be playing for the league championships. Semis at campbell on Friday, Championship game on Saturday. Was this at St. Catherine's in Ft. THomas during the summer. Because I saw a ref do that in a game my child was playing and let the woman go up and down the court for about 5 minutes. I asked the ref if he wanted me to yell at her like she was yelling at him and he said no.

The 6th grade is very, very tight between Pendleton, Holmes and Highlands. I believe Highlands beat Holmes. Pendleton beat Highlands. Holmes beat Pendleton. If Pendleton could sweep Holmes and Highlands this week, and Holmes beats Highlands tonight, it could very well be a 3-way tie with each team having two district losses. Pendleton picked up a 2nd loss when Campbell beat them with one of their leading scorers and ballhandlers was out with strep throat. He had 18 against them first game and did not play the 2nd game. Think CC won that game by 6 or so. 7th grade, with Highlands having two losses to Holmes that pretty much wraps up the seeding in their district. Newport and Pendleton (they split) should play Tuesday night (if the weather doesn't change the dates of the tournament) for the play in game to play Holmes. Highlands and Campbell on other side of the bracket. 8th grade, I am a little unsure here on what has happened between Highlands, Campbell and Holmes. My ASSUMPTION is that Highlands will be the #1 seed with Newport and Sharp 4 and 5 playing the play-in game. Sharp has swept them. Holmes and Campbell on the other side of the bracket.

Curious on how far Laurel Co carries this policy in the name of safety and liability. Is cross country practice held off campus? Do the players drive themselves to practice to make sure that safety/liability of the players is covered as they travel to a school mandated practice? How about baseball or soccer or any others that might be held off campus or not immediately after school hours? How about on snow days when there might be a cheerleading/basketball practice? Are the players allowed to drive themselves? Or weekends. If it is unsafe to drive from London to Corbin, surely it is unsafe to drive from their home to school for practice. And lasty, North Laurel plays South Laurel. Do they take a bus?

I was going to link to a website that the BBA had on it's organization and officials. Asked one of their officials if it was still up and they told me no. Seems the officials were getting too much hate mail and threats via the website. That is sad.

The cost saved allows funds to be used in other areas. For girls basketball, our cost of the bus driver was $3,000 per year. For girls basketball only. AND that does not include the cost of bus/gas/etc that groups/sports now have to pay. Easily, you talk a savings of $5,000 to $6,000 per team. For my golf team when they went to use having to use a bus to transport our 5 golfers, our costs went up $2,000. Districts should require a waiver that a parent will provide transportation and not the child driving.

Sharp and Holmes cancelled for tonight.

Was supposed to start next Tuesday with 4 and 5 seeds in districts with 5 teams playing. The winner advances to the next night to play the 1 seed. 2 and 3 play that night also. This week's games play into seeding as everyone should be in district play.

Well since we were talking middle school basketball and there are some 11 year olds at the 6th grade level, it is the life of a MS ref.

What is the difference than a parent driving their child to school and driving their child to a football game?

Ironically, we are told that it is unsafe to transport students to a school activity in any manner other than a school approved bus.

I have said it on here many times and I will say it once again. The BBA that serves the 10th and 11th region are the very best in the state. I always had Gary Wilson rated #1. Other officials I rated highly were Brian Wallingford, Eric Thornberry, Kevin Letcher, Tom Mitchell, Bart Lenox.

I agree. The difference we will have is on wording and it ain't worth it to continue the discussion on that. And I see nothing wrong with having lower threshold's for a 11-year old that is learning the game and needs to be taught how they are to act on the court. My rule as a coach is simple. One of the parts of my job is to question calls IF they need to be questioned. I will do that if needed. Players are not to question calls but focus on playing and their responsibilities. Refs have a hard enough job rather than having to listen to a 11-year old tell them they don't know what they are doing.

As in officiating, most calls are judging calls whether it is judging whether a 11-year old 6th grade player deserves a technical for questioning an officials call for yelling "what" when the whistle blew or the move was a walk.

From the HS official when I asked about the judgement part. For the most part. But there are some pretty obvious reactions/statements too such as cursing where everybody in the gym can hear, slapping the floor in frustration, slamming the ball (and not catching it) and so on. So, it seems I was right that there is a rule in there about questioning an officials call and it is the officials judgement on whether the questioning is unsporting or not.

Right. And obviously some officials let players get by with too much.
