  1. :thumb: Pretty good for a group that was labeled as just a FoxNews ploy and had no real movement behind it.
  2. I would need some convincing about raising the Debt Ceiling. Not 100% against it but hate the idea of being an enabler and just allowing DC to continue to spend without some serious cuts and look at the tax code.
  3. I implied no religious red tape. I said counseling.
  4. Rereading my post, I think that is what I was implying. Abandonment of a parent is worse than having a gay parent. While I can't say for sure because of had neither, that would be my guess.
  5. Children in this day and age have a ton of things to have to grow up with with the parents being gay just being another one. I wonder if the abandonment by one parent is worse than being a gay parent.
  6. Using your logic Enron should mean nothing to me and should not be concerned about those people losing their money nor the laws that affect that because it does not affect me.
  7. I answered it, just not the answer you wanted. There are plenty of things that are important to this country that do not directly affect me. Yet, they are important for this country and have to be pursued or protected. Your implication from your post is that morality for this country is somehow bad? Or only things that you would deem immoral. For example, I lost no money in the Enron scandal. Would you agree that it is now fine with you that I support laws to make that illegal (like marriage that is not between a woman/man) and it is based on my brand of morality. That is the problem with so many opinions. They LOVE to judge people on throwing their brand of morality around when they disagree with it but fine with it when they agree with it.
  8. A good number of laws don't directly affect us but it is essential for us to either support or not support them through voting for our representatives.
  9. You know criminalization of drugs don't affect me since I don't do drugs, so I guess I am not allowed to have an opinion on them.
  10. You know child labor laws don't affect me as a 45 year old, so I guess I should not support them.
  11. You know I don't eat Japanese food so I guess I shouldn't support the Health Dept making sure they are a clean business because it does not affect me.
  12. Making my point that this mentality of adults should be allowed to do whatever they want to do as long as it does not directly affect someone while totally ignoring any indirect results to society is a mindset that is not good for this country. The casino issues, the drug issues and many more issues that have sprung from this mindset is not good for this country.
  13. Okay, THAT is the WAY I THINK ALL MARRIAGES SHOULD HAVE TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. My guesses the beaches in southern Michigan/Northern Ohio are closest.
  15. Contact the Hopkins County Courthouse and tell them they who issue the marriage license are wrong then. You sure it wasn't a requirement of the faith they were being married under? I know my church has certain requirements that would take longer if they want to use the church building. Some meetings/counseling with minister and other conditions. Those have been known to take several months.
  16. As a teacher, I deal with the ramifications all the time through my students.
  17. UKMustangFan, you are just wrong on it being a long drawn out 6 month process. Two sites there says NO WAITING PERIOD. Meaning pick up marriage license this morning and married today.
  18. From Hopkins county website Marriage licenses are valid for 30 days, including the date it is issued, and after that time it is invalid. Therefore, if the marriage is not solemnized within the 30-day period, the parties must apply for a new license. Please call if you have questions Hopkins County Clerk's Office (270) 821-7361 No waiting period or blood test is required prior to the issuance of the marriage license.
  19. Wow. Unless you are talking about a certain faith's requirements, not sure about this. http://www.usmarriagelaws.com/search/united_states/kentucky/index.shtml You'll typically need to apply for your marriage license at least one month before your wedding ceremony. Waiting Period: No waiting period
  20. So, your position that you want me to see is that I can't believe what they are actually saying but rather read their minds to what they would accept?
  21. And for the record, I think it needs to be much, much, much, much harder to get married in this country than it is. Too many people treat it like it is a weekend date rather than a serious commitment.
  22. Well everything discussed and passed and fought for is about marriages and not civil unions. Has that side of the issue pushed and got passed in any state the idea of a "civil union" or being allowed to be "married?"
