I agree Buck. He has done a good job as far as the actual baseball part. THey are much better than they used to be. But he argues with players of other teams and fans. Like yousay, you have to be able to control those kinds of things. I think he has had enough talent to win a regional tournament over the past few years, but they alwasy seem to blow the big one.

Going by past results, Hammonds is the best....by far. Trip to the final four is a great accomplishment. Dixon comes in 2nd to him....which is probably a complement to him....i'm sure he olds Coach Hammonds in high esteem....as should all coaches over there....In my opinion. After all Perry CO had 2 pitchers drafted......how did they do in pro ball anyway?

I heard they are going to replace 2 old poles with higher ones. THen use the rest of the old poles and install new lights on them.

Hey RNC.....if you were from here and were a baseball fan, you would understand. We had to miss and entire season in 03 waiting on the turf. Now, looks like we may miss possibley the first month of the season. Hey Buck, don't you think it's strange that the light problem was detected AFTER football??

i'm afraid you are right, BaseballFan. I've seen things like this happen before. Remember, in 03 the turf was supposed installed and ready to play on by about mid season........what a joke that was.

Well, the way things have worked in the past with the city here in Pikeville, i wouldn't be suprised if it interfered with the season some how.

Just heard they are going to be installing a new light system at W.C. Hambley. Anyone know much about this? WIll it interfere with the season at all? What about practice?

You are right......it was Patton. He was fired......that's what he gets for winning the region!! I disagree with Hall at SC. I think over the last 5-6 years he's had as much or more than anyone to work with. He is just not a good coach. His players don't respect him. He is a poor leader. Like last year when he told his team not to shake hands after losing to PIkeville in the regional touranment.

I remember now it was Randy and Joey. They had a good pitcher i remember. Clevinger. Wonder why it took so long for Paintsville to win the region again. i've often wondered that. you know it took them 10 years to even get back to the regional final.

What about number of regional titles in this region. Adkins) 2002:Pikeville(Lawson) 2003:Allen Central(Kidd) 2004:Johnson Central(Hall) 2005:Pikeville(Lawson) What about 94,95, 96? I think JC won one and Betsy Layne won one, but not sure. Can anyone help?

If you had a team with Hammonds as the head coach and Dixon coaching first base, you'd have maybe the best staff in the state.

Great post Buck. Pikeville will miss a beat. But may be very dangerous at the end of the year. They are going to be replacing 7 seniors with people who quiet frankly are not as good as the ones who left. BUT, I think, like you say, with the pitching they'll be alright in tournament time. I also agree about Justice at ER. He is a baseball man....always has been. Hasn't had much to choose from, coaching 6-7 years at MIllard and now down talent at ER. Everyone likes to talk about Lawson winning with talent, but he won a couple of regions without the best talent too. In my opinion.

Did Dean ever win the region?? Combs......I don't know about that. THey are good on occasion, but not consistantly. but they are good.

What about the 15th? Also some good ones. With Adkins gone, you have: Lawson(Pikeville) Keeton(Lawrence) Hall brothers(JC and SC) Any opinions?

There are some good coaches here in the mountains. In the 14th, if you go by past results and accomplishments, you have to say: Hammonds(Knott) Meehan(Hazard) Dixon(Perry) Those are about the best over there.......they coach a lot alike too. Good coaches with the fundamentals. Any opinions?

I know that Coach Lawson at PIkeville used to limit his pitchers to 60 pitches for the first couple of starts for the season, then gradually go up from there. I think he allows certain ones to go up from that total now. But like BaseballFan said, it's totally dependent on the pitcher. Also factor in weather. If it's really cold and rainy, like so often in KY early, then they shouldn't throw as many.

My take on that is that when the coaches look at stats to vote, no one has defensive stats. I don't necessarly agree that LeMaster should have made it. But, I think Walls deserved it on his offense AND defense. I also thought Parrish should have been on over Adams. And probably Spears, the best lead-off man in the mountains. But pass the voting sheet around to coaches and see if they are going to vote for 2 from the same team. They won't. And it WAS done strictly by voting this year.

Have you ever seen an all-star team, including the major leagues, where everyone that deserves it makes it? You can not even vote on your own players....so, in many ways, it is a joke. But it is hard for me to aruge looking at that list with the ones that made it. And saying they are not the best on their team is totally an opinion and might not be the same as the ones who chose. But it is certainly not a perfect system. Could it be done a better way??

Rumor has it that Chase Huffman has committed to Morehead State this weekend. Hard to get DI to take people from our area.....so, if this is true, it is rare.

I never said he was clueless. Don't lump us all together. He was an excellent coach....did a good job here in baseball. He only stopped coaching becasue K. Trivette wanted someone to do baseball and basketball seperately. He had his choice which to keep coaching. Just because some people get on here and bad mouth coaches, doesn't mean that everyone thinks like that.

I hope they build the stands back like they are then. Not just a bunch of metal bleachers. The stands are the best part about being down there. So, when will this be done?
