Everyone played and Neeley was held to 6 points and seemed frustrated all night. Smith scored 15, but was also defended well. Owsley just doesn't have enough Firepower IMO.

I think Estill is starting to come together. Their tough early season schedule is seeming to pay dividends. I think people are very loyal to their own and other teams in the 14th and reluctant to recognize newcomer Estill as a top 5 team in the 14th. They have as good a shot as any of the other "top-tier" 14th teams.

One of the best measures of a coach is getting the most out of the talent he has - Rison does it every year.

Ronnie, if you're picking Estill because of post play, you've been watching the wrong team. They play using 5 perimeter players most of the time.

I believe that Estill is more explosive and more erratic than Lee. On the other hand, Lee is good steadily throughout the game, with few letdowns. This is something that needs to improve if Estill is to win in Beattyville both in the regular season and in the districts. If the Engineers can find an answer for Tyler Rich, and get more consistent I like their chances - especially if they end up playing their best ball at the end of the year as was the case last season (defeating Clark in the districts).

Weak as in basketball skill and ability, I don't think so. However, I think that it has to be considered one of the weakest regions in terms of player size and athletic ability.

As for Crow - How in the world would he be ruled eligible, after so many transfers in a short span?

Gilbert is a very nice player. However there are some who tout him as a D-1 player, and that level is too high for him. He will be a good small college player.

Southern may be better to have lost the disgruntled players. They have some kids that can flat shoot the lights out.

According to the herald leader, Dixon had 17 and Berryman had 15. Dixon had a ton of boards as well.

If Lee runs the table, then they could be in trouble come district tourney time. Time and Time again it is proven that it is difficult to beat a team 3 times. In Estill's case, I believe it would be 4 times (Johnson Central tourney). Wow talk about tough!

Ronnie, What is Estill missing besides talent?

Estill will also play Florida powers 4a undefeated Columbia High School (8-0) and 6A Monster Atlantic High School in the Daytona Beach Classic after Christmas. They have played some good teams tough (Dunbar loss by 3, Johnson Central at JCHS by 2, Lee by 3) and they haven't even scratched the surface of their potential. If they can get quality experience in the tough early season schedule and come together down the stretch they will be as tough as any of the top teams in the 14th in March.

If Leslie County's schedule is tougher than Estill's early season schedule, then hats off to them.

At Powell...Estill was up 22 at one point. Berryman had 28 Dixon 20 and 10

....granted weak players and teams can be intimidated, but he didn't intimiditate the good players or good teams in warmups.

Qualifications didn't change - I don't know if there was a year in which he was the clear cut #1 player in the tenth. Dunking doesn't make a good player.
