27-23 SL needs to break this 5 point cushion that Graves has had, take the lead, and get some early momentum in the 2nd.

I agree. Zach Marcum for SL has also played extremely well defensively.

Graves also dominated the boards in the first 1/2, and got way more second chances. If they continue to do that then SL could be hurting.

Very good point. Numbers matter when you have to have 45-60 players. In football you have 22 positions on offense and defense, plus special teams. You also need backups for each of those positions at least 2 deep, and you would also like to have different players on special teams as well. Plus many of these athletes at small schools have to play 3 ways, as you pointed out, Numbers dont matter when you have to have 10-15 players. In basketball you have 5 positions. All 5 players are expected to play both ways. You need a few subs, and a few extra players. In all reality most teams only play between 7-10 guys. Football is largely about numbers, whereas basketball is more about talent.

25-23 at half. Graves leading SL. Walt Allen scoreless in the 1st. Trey Smith playing huge for SL with 13 points and 2 huge 3 point shots. SL defense causing lots of turnovers and keeping SL alive. They have 9 steals in the 1st 1/2, most coming by Zach Marcum. Only 6 points off turnovers though. Graves is playing extremely well and shooting the ball just as good. They shot nearly 53% in the first 1/2 whereas SL shot 39 %. King and Cavette are playing huge for Graves with 10 and 9 points a piece.

Bell is not a top ten in the mountains, not this year but maybe next year.

The bolded is a good point. Classes in football is not all about winning state championships or leveling the playing field to make it more fair. Basketball and football are 2 different sports and should be treated so. To say that someone is hypocritical because they are a propponent of a class system in football, but not in basketball isnt neccessarily true. The reasoning for a class system in either sport differs for a number of reasons.

And Trinity could also be placed in there VERY OWN FOOTBALL CLASS, the Trinity Class, so that all the other 4A public teams would have a chance. It would work out great for everyone. Trinity would still win a state championship every year, like they do now, and all the other public schools would have a chance.

I understand the logistical problems. I think you could keep the bye week. Get rid of one game and start the season a week earlier. Who knows? But there are a number of ways to solve the logistical problems if one was committed to doing this. Where there is a will there is a way.

Another piece of advice to add to Jim Schue. During the regular season schedule tougher competition and dont worry about taking some beatings. Sure you will have to take some losses earlier, but in the long run it will help. I think this is the one key to why SL has made their climb up the KY HS Basketball ladder.

We should. In football you should have a district, region, and class champ. How do you do this? 1.) Forget the public/private debate and leave football alone. 2.) Seed the 4 class champs 3.) Play 2 extra games (a semi final and a championship game) and crown an All Out State Football Champion.

Comparing scores is really not what I meant when talking about the gaps. I think we both understand the problem when you start comparing scores. I am sure that if I did enough research that I could come up with plenty of counter examples that would refute exactly what you just proved. But I will once against concede to you and say OK the gap in football is large enough. This is exactly why you use the classes as seeding. 4A vs 1A 3A vs 2A You will almost always have a 4A vs 3 or 2A championship game (that will vary since there is almost no gap between 3 and 2 during most years). Some rare years the 1A champ may upset the 4A champ, but that will be extremely rare. Most all years you are going to have a 4A or 3A team winning the title. Some years you may have a 2A team win the title, and the 1A team will almost never win the title. You still end up with an All Out State Champion though, and it will vary much more then in basketball, where the Large School Champion would almost ALWAYS defeat the Small School Champion in the All Out State Championship game.

I could say the same thing of the winner of the NCAA Basketball Tourney...... that doesnt cheapen or lessen what those teams have done, or how good those teams are playing. To attribute Madison Central and Mason Co. making it to the state tourney and playing extremely well on the biggest stage in KY HS basketball to PARITY is laughable. Do you know what both of those teams had to do in order to get there. Madison came out of the 11th region, the best region in the state according to those rankings that you are SOOOO fond of. It included top 25 teams Lex Cath, Bryan Station, Henry Clay, and Scott Co. etc etc etc. They beat the #1 team in the state (Scott Co) to get to the big dance. Mason came out of the 12th region, a region that included top 10 ranked Pendelton Co. They then beat top 20 ranked Warren Central. Westsider..... is it that hard to admit that Madison Central and Mason Co are much better teams then you gave them credit for in our little debate about SL's strength of schedule.

Tell that to westsider..... lol. I agree with you that both Mason Co and Madison Central could be in Rupp on Saturday.
