Best of luck to Coach Gentry. I think Whitley is getting a good coach. Players will be well disciplined and well coached.

Personally I wasn't surprised at so few applicants. I have relatives in Williamsburg and have heard that job may be a political cauldron. I wish luck to who ever takes it and hope they have a good set of armour.

I think 1A will boil down to a dog fight between Somerset, Lynn Camp, and Williamsburg. Somerset reutrns what may be the finest young receiver in the state in Coles, Lynn Camp has Rosskoph returning with an experienced line, and Williamsburg was junior laden last yerar with not alot of experience. Those juniors led by Frazier, Hamlin, and Root, are more seasoned and should put up a good fight.

Not sure if you would consider Williamsburg as eastern Ky., but Aaron Root had a great junior year. 167 tackles, 20 for loss, 5 forced fumbles, 1st team all district, all SEKC Linebacker of the Year. From what I've heard has his bench up in the 325 lb. area now, and should have a great senior year. He is as his coach has stated a natural linebacker and a great student of the game.

You are correct King calls the plays in from sideline, but Gentry has major input. Gentry also runs the weight program and from people Ive talked to the players over his tenure have greatly improved strength.

When looking at a coach, I look at track record. I know that under Gentry Cumberlands has led the Nation in rushing the past 2 years (hard to do unless you have a great offensive line, and seems to me a pretty dang good coach leading them). As far as relating to kids, he seems to do pretty well with those he coaches at the university. Finally, knowing a few folks in Williamsburg, I've heard some good things about him.

Does anyone have the complete list for all classes, especially single "A" ? If you could post this, or if you have a link it would be appreciated!

Thomas Frazier from Williamsburg should be poised for a nice senior season.

Always have been impressed with long time assistant Al Ysidro. Seems to be well liked by the kids and has a good football mind. Probably doesn't have a chance (unfortunately) for the job but would be a good hire.

I sit here wiping tears from my eyes as I consider how blessed I have been to have played the sport and have sons and nephews who have played and excelled. Thanks for sharing this story and thank you God for my blessings.

Glad to hear it! Yes Ky. is a big state and no I don't expect to see several from the same school, but would enjoy seeing some of the smaller schools represented as well. I think sometimes all state teams (at least in other states I have coached in) are selected by how a young man may project to play beyond High School into college, and not based on his H.S. performance. I know one year in another state we had a kid in our conference (class 2A) who rushed for over 2,000 yards (led the state) and scored 27 td's on a team that made it to the semi finals, and he was not even honorable mention. Why?... 5'5" tall...150 lbs. No colleges interested...no sportswriters voting. It was a shame this young man had the year he did but didn't get any statewide recognition. Sandman, I'm sure the folks who work on this do a very good job, as this is my first experience with the BGP team, I look forward to seeing it. I'm not looking necessarily for any particular individuals, just have seen a few very good players throughout the state this year and they weren't all 4a or 3a or in major metropolitan areas, and even though some will go on to nice college careers at some level, many will not and this will be the highlight of their athletic life. Having said all that, I look forward to seeing the results!

Hope some deserving young men from smaller schools are considered, unlike the AP team. Also that there are other areas of the state with good football besides NKY and Louisville.

Has anyone seen this released. Have heard some selections through the grapevine but would like to see the entire selection.

Not sure what would be so strange, saw most of these kids play this year and it seems pretty representative. Congratulations to each of these young men on a nice reward for all your hard work!

SEKC = Southeast Kentucky Conference, made up of schools in several southeast Ky. Counties....Laurel, Whitley, Harlan, and a couple others.

Obviously from my screen name this post will have an "orange" hue...lol. First and foremost, modern players are Peyton Manning ( who if I'm not mistaken sits just to the right of the Lord in the kingdom around here!), Al Wilson...what a stud linebacker in college and now the pros. Old school, my alltime favorite has to be a Kentucky (well U of L product anyway)..Johnny Unitas. College Players that I have enjoyed over the past few years - Reggie Bush..wow!, Jesse Mahelona at UT was phenominal, as was Kevin Simon and Jason Hall. High school in my area - Teddy Thompson from Harlan (too bad his size doesn't match his heart), John Cole from Somerset ( only a sophmore this past year..my goodness what an upside!), Jimmy Chafin from Lynn Camp ( really athletic...someone should take a D1 chance on him), Chase Hamlin from Williamsburg - great hands, decent size, if he gets stronger and faster could be a wonderful prospect, Aaron Root also from Williamsburg - this dog hunts! I love the way he gets after it at linebacker, 5'9" 185 lbs make him a bit like Thompson, alot of heart and he's getting stronger and faster and definitelly has a head for the game, and last but not least Clint Cashen at Corbin...height may hurt him as far as the next level, but can make all the throws and leadership drips off him. Hope this was what you were looking for and thanks for starting this thread. It was fun to reminicse a little bit!

Not sure when it came out and don't have a link, just know that my info came from coaching staff. Of course, SEKC is out and was in Corbin Paper yesterday.

Just a side note, Chase Hamlin was selected as receiver of the year and Aaron Root was selected as Linebacker of the year from Williamsburg.

Williamsburg will have a pretty good senior class led by Chase Hamblin at reciever ( led class A in receptions and named all Southeast Kentucky Conference receiver of the year and 1st team all district), Linebacker Aaron Root ( 167 total tackles and 20 for loss, all district 1st team, Linebacker of the year Southeast Kentucky Conference), Qb Thomas Frazier (All SEKC, 2nd team all district), and AJ Jusino ( all SEKC and 2nd team all district). The future looks bright for the Jackets if they can stay healthy and develop depth.

Williamsburg loses 3 seniors, 2 of which were starters. Fairly large Jr. class led by returning QB Thomas Frazier, WR Chase Hamlin (leading receiver in the state), and LB Aaron Root(averaged nearly 20 tackles a game). Should be a solid season for the Jackets next year.

If I'm not mistaken, Black is coaching softball now and his daughter is a Junior on the softball team, so I'd be surprised if he left. But nothing in life is a 100% surety!

In class a in southeast Kentucky I was impressed with two kids from Williamsburg who should have great senior years next year. Chase Hamlin led the state in receiving and Aaron Root had 158 tackles in 8 ballgames. These two are worth the price of admission thats for sure.

Aaron Root for Williamsburg is 5'9", 185 lbs., benches 300, squats well over 400 ( last i heard was 450), and runs a 4.7 40. He never came off the feild this year as he played center, was longsnapper, and was on all special teams.
