Our Devils will play the whole 2006 season with an extra feature to the uniform... a big bullseye target. We will surely get everyone's best game of the season as what better motivation for an opposing team than to beat a defending state champion. I know our guys can respond accordingly, however, there can be no let down. All of our guys could benefit from the winter weight lifting program as well as participation in spring track. If they take care of business, and we get a ball to bounce our way occasionally, then another trip to the carpet should definitely be an attainable goal. I can't wait for kickoff!

Way To Go Devils!!! :devil: This whole week has been a blast. All the great stories and coverage by Maynard and crew were the perfect crescendo for the AA championship game. Driving down yesterday with the vehicle painted up and our Russell flag flying it was great to see all the community support. A whole lot of vehicles heading toward the 'Ville had license plates other than Greenup County and when we got to the game you could see the Raceland orange, Lawrence County red, Boyd County red and of course the Ashland maroon/white fans all on our side of the field and cheering right along with us for a Russell victory. This Russell team has gone out all year long and "went to work" on Friday nights. Some shifts were more challenging than others, (there was one night that we even forgot to show up, i.e., BC), but they all served the same purpose; the goal of making it to the carpet. Ivan obviously had the team ready once again to roll up their sleeves to put in an honest day's work for an honest day's pay. It just so happens that this payday included a bonus called a state title trophy. Congrats go out to all of the starters and those that got to play and hear their names annouced for a tackle, fumble recovery, etc. You can read about their exploits in today's paper. But my hat also goes off to those guys that put the pads on and grind it out on scout squads in the heat of summer and endure the long bus rides, etc., and never get the uniform dirty. A team has to have guys like these that see the bigger picture and understand their supporting role on the team. It's no less their victory and here's a big thank you! Does anyone know if there is going to be a convoy leaving from the High School tomorrow? What time? I've got my Russell flag flying and the vehicle all painted up for the road trip. Go Devils!!!!

Thanks for the encouragement Nets. Morgan Co continues to make our district more competitive each and every year. The more competitive the district, the better team we all become. :devil:

How much no-huddle does O'Cath run throughout the game? What situations prompt the no-huddle?

What kind back up QB does O Cath have?

I'm really looking forward to this game especially with regard to how we can "keep up" with a platooning team such as O Cath. If there is a fatigue factor which develops, I can see Coach Morris making the appropriate substitutions. Obviously, the kids that play on both sides of the ball are our better athletes, however, there are also kids in uniform on the sidelines of every game that can contribute to the effort as well. This one's going to be fun to watch. I hope my Devils win!!!

Russell's LB's and corners have laid some serious wood on several receivers this season. The kid from West Carter is still trying to figure out what train hit him. (I think it was the Tommy Brown Express.) I'm sure Morris will encourage much of the same for Saturday's meeting. There's nothing like hearing "footsteps" as you prepare to catch a ball across the middle.

Here's my two cents worth: Don't know anything about O-Cath other than what I've gleaned from posters but they are obviously a passing/spread offense type team. IMO, Russell has the most balanced offensive attack in recent years. The Wing-T has always been there for the Devils, but it seems we've found a whole new gear for our passing game in the playoffs. O-Cath posters have to understand that this is a great departure from the normal offense that Russell runs. If Tommy Brown can pass and connect like he has in recent games it will most certainly keep the O-Cath defense on their heels. Our defense has been solid all season long. (Except for a brief hiatus that was the Boyd Co. game and that has already been explained on this thread.) I do hope they work this week on getting to the QB. I think Ivan and the other coaches have to keep the stars out of our players eyes especially when they get to PJ Stadium. I'll give an edge to O-Cath in that their squad has been there before and know what to expect. I do know that Russell will show up and play their game. Hopefully, it will be good enough to collect some hardware and jewelry. I'm also predicting a very large fan base of support for the Devils. :devil:

Looked like Maynard was battling cramps most of the nite. I thought our defense did a good job cutting off the sidelines and pursuing when he had the ball. He obviously had the speed that was touted all week. He caught Tommy Brown from way down the field to spoil the TD.

Didn't mean to make it a big deal. Just made an observation. I was impressed with both the Belfry crowd and their enthusiasm for their team.

Don't condone anything that was said by the players that was "unpolite", but you don't set your tunnel up in the middle of the home team's field like that. I can't imagine that happening last year at Vipperman.

Great game Devils! Should have been up by two more TD's at the half. Belfry didn't quit though. Couldn't believe the call on the 1 yd line. (You have to pound those points on the board between the tackles.) Refs seemed to be a bit hankie happy and most went against us. Loved how our team took the field back from the Belfry cheerleaders before the start of the game. Remember, it's our house! Here's a suggestion for Haywood; have your team take a knee when a player is injured. It's the classy thing to do. Can't wait to get to the 'Ville for the big one. Go Devils!!!

CJ's Jody Demling picks Belfry over Russell 35 -32. Red Devils it's time to demonstrate that we won't settle for anything less than a chance to play on the carpet this year. Remember, it's our house and nobody comes into our house and pushes us around! Go Devils!!!!

Will the Pirates be practicing on Turkey Day?

THis BGP'er will be there. Picked up my reserved tickets yesterday. I know it will be a great game between two very good football teams. The field will probably be either wet and sloppy or frozen. Don't think it matters much as both teams will have to make the best of it. The Devils have proved they can be mudders if they have to. Just hope we can hold onto the pill better this year.

I think the pressure is on Russell to prove that they can play and beat a good Belfry team. The Belfry kids have experienced the thrill of victory and I'm sure they would very much like to have that feeling again this year. They are well coached and play a very physical game. I think the Devils have the athletes to play with Belfry this year and very possibly defeat them. It may take getting a few breaks with the ball bouncing in our favor as we certainly didn't get that benefit last year. Factor in a home field advantage and I believe you have the recipe for a Red Devil win.

What to work on this week in practice... pass coverage by the secondary. It seems like we were a step behind on several long pass plays. Well thrown balls were dropped by the Mercer receivers and those plays could have been points on the board. Coach Morris will have to correct the problem before rollng into Newport next Fri nite. Just a suggestion.

How do you figure?? Russell will probably be favored even with the game being played at Newport. That's not to say that it will be easy. We have to bring our "A" game and continue to play the aggressive, physical football that has gotten us this far. :devil:

I predicted the party was over for the Tomcats. Ashland has had a great season, but I thought Rockcastle Co would get the win. I didn't think it would be so lopsided though. Looks like Russell and Paintsville will have to represent for northeastern Kentucky.

Russell wins with some solid defense and explosive offense. The yellow hankies were flying all night long and most were the 15 yard variety. We can't do that next week and expect to win at Newport. Mercer palyed tough all night. The Scotties' Number 32 was a solid running back. Go Devils!!!
