Boone beat Mason 42-20 and then beat SK 41-3. I was simply implying how unexact it is to compare scores and come to a conlcusion about what the outcome will be when two good teams hook up next week.

Thats not what I was saying. Russell very well could lose two in a row. I do hope the team is mad though. They should be.

In the end the penalty did allow the chance for the fieldgoal. There is no denying that. But there were other things that lead to that situation ever coming about. I agree both team played very hard. Not very smart but very hard.

I don't think anybody will blame the kid for trying to make a play. But that is a penalty you just can't commit. Know your situation. Ponzer was not going to even com close to scoring. Kick the ball deep and the penalty doesn't get SK into field goal range. Don't fumble. Lets not forget that on the SK took the lead after Russell fumbled in their own territory giving the pioneers the short field. There were alot of mistakes by both teams. Simon Kenton just came out on top. Give them credit.

It was a very entertaining game to watch. The onside kick was very questionable though. Dolly has plenty of leg to kick it deep and should have done so IMO.

Congratulations to Mason County. Looking forward to reviving the rivalry next week.

I don't know about being better than a win but it did show them some things both positive and negative. Russell was better on the LOS. SK started out trying to run and could not. Then Russell tried to stop the pass and could not. They are things that can be corrected though and this loss, though a very very tough one to swallow, is nothing to hang their heads about. As for heading to Papa John's. Belfry, Mason and Breathitt all may have something to say about that. But from what I saw tonight Russell does have a chance as well. Actually I am encouraged and I hope the players don't dwell on a loss to a good 6A team. It was a tough way to lose a game that Russell really should have won.

Nice bounceback for East.

Nice win for Belfry. Just keep rolling along. You have to survive some of those games where they inspiration is just not there.

I don't think many of the Russell fans or players are overlooking Mason County. It should be a down to the wire war next week in Maysville. One of those too close to call games. I myself have said that Mason County was a team that alot of people in 3A are overlooking and it would not suprise me if they were to end up in Louisville. Of course it wouldn't surprise me if Russell or Belfry or Breathitt ended up there either. I do think Belfry with that defense is the favorite though.

I would take my chances with Mason or Belfry as well. But I would not count Russell out. They do have some things that need to be fixed but they are also capable of beating either IMO. The front seven for Russell play well again on both sides of the ball. If that young secondary can settle down a bit they will be just fine.

He had just over 200 yards and 3 TDs I believe. He does not have great size but has very good hands and is a tough kid.

A great game to watch. This loss should hurt and hurt badly. I hope the players remember that feeling and build from it. The positives: Both teams played with alot of heart and intensity. It was obvious from the start. Both offenses moved the ball well. Russell ran the ball well though Jones still looked a little gimpy on the ankle. Both teams played well enough to win and made big plays. It was very entertaining to watch The negatives: Russells pass defense. IMO cover two with man underneath would have been better. Too many times the cornors and safety were isolated with no deep help. The young secondary really should have learned a lesson tonight. Turnovers and silly penalties. Both teams had some turnovers but they were pretty even. The facemask penalty on the final play is something you cannot do. Russell had players in position and Ponzer was not going to score on the final play. He really did make a fabulous catch on that play though and this is just an example of never knowing what is going to happen and playing hard until the final horn. Coaching: I hate to say it but I really think Russell got out coached tonight. The onside kick with 11 seconds being the prime example. In the end both teams should hold there heads up. They both made plays to win the game and played hard until the end. Simon Kenton gets a BIG win that should only boost their confidence. Russell played a team that could match up better physically with them and also played well enough to win. Russell will be a factor in 3A. They need to get ready for a very good Mason County team and reamain positive.

Russell has been VERY conservative all year on offense. I look for them to open it up a little more tonight. As for who I think will win. I picked Russell but I think it is a toss up. Alot depends on if Jones ankle is 100% and how Russell's defense stands up. If Russell comes out emotional and intense I like the Devils in a close one.
