Just had "the vision" - a look into the near-term future - and Mercer wins 14-13! Seems the Russell faithful were talking too much "pizza" and thinking too much "powerhouse" to give a serious thought that the Scotties just might get'em. Great win for Jaggers and the program! Congrats and good luck in next week's regional championship game!

Better get your facts straight on the Garrard-Mercer game. While your story sounds good, you obviously don't have a clue as to how that contest unfolded.

BS! Marty Jaggers has not won a state title. Does that mean that he does not know football? Even more to the point, if I lived in Russell or was a Russell fan, would my opinion be more worthy than it is as a Garrard fan? Lastly, winning a regional title makes a team a "powerhouse" ?? You're hung up on labels.

A weakness of both teams is their pass defense. Corbin throws the ball well and DeSales likes to use their powerful running game. I look for lots of points and I'll pick the home team to win by 62-58.

Hey, we all know the Devils are a real good team and, truthfully, Mercer with it's weak schedule is certainly unproven. However, I just gotta hunch this'll be a dandy ballgame. Teams that are as hungry as Mercer and that play the type of offense that Jaggers plays (ball-control, time-consuming) along with its solid defense are difficult to score alot of points against and are, therefore, sometimes tough outs in the playoffs. They darn sure better if they hope to bet the Scotties! Mercer is a big, strong, physical, well-coached football team with a helluva running game and a capable defense. Russell is certainly not an unbeatable powerhouse. I expect a very close and competitive contest. Don't be shocked if Mercer pulls the upset.

That's the second-best Garrard hit in my memory. The best was GC vs. Harrodsburg in 1993 when LB Craig Arnold hit RB Henry Parks on a 4th down screen pass. GC won the game and the district crown. Later in the season, they went on to Bardstown where the previously undefeated Lions lost a heartbreaker in the regional title game by 14-13 in front of the biggest crowd and best atmosphere I've ever seen at a GC football game.
