  1. Thank you, Wireman, for letting the rest of the region know about this. We will pray for Coach Thomas, his family and the team.
  2. Kind of a "no-brainer," isn't it, Claude? It's almost embarrassing to have to be reminded of that...we were having so much fun pretending...but thanks just the same, GottaRebound. The West Carter team...now that is a more interesting comparison and a good one for thought. It's great to even be mentioned with the likes of such fine players.
  3. I would agree, but add that Rose Hill's Jackson has the most potential for success at both the high school level and beyond. Apart from pure basketball skills, speed and agility...which I think are superior as compared to the others on the list...he appears to have not yet reached his full height or muscle mass.
  4. I agree. She's a joy to watch...athletic, yet graceful.
  5. The Lady Royals had better be well prepared to face Raceland, should they get past Bath County this evening. The Raceland coaching staff was reportedly seen at both the LexCath and the Woodford County games. Thursday night's game should be a good one...the best gym in the region, two evenly matched teams and a probable trip to Richmond on the line. And in hopes of getting the best officiating one can desire, I humbly submit the following: Whereas I have in times past been guilty of the most egregious and outrageous behavior directed towards those kind and well-intentioned men and women in stripes who by their efforts do make both player participation and spectating possible, I do hereby offer my sincerest apology for past offenses and pledge to henceforth maintain the highest level of decorum whilst reserving the right to voice an appropriate yet minimal amount of disgust or contempt, whichever I deem necessary for the occasion, and will offer said remarks in the kindest possible way.
  6. Random thoughts... Not sure it was a "great" win, but nice to win such an ugly game. By ugly I mean: ...when the defense was allowed to body up the ballhandler, push and pull under the basket (you know how it is...establish it early and the refs just let it go on...smaller players are given great leeway against a taller opponent, but not the reverse) and, as a result, fans on both sides were calling for more whistles and players were frustrated. ...Rose Hill was again uninspired, whether the result of the previous night's effort against LexCath or just not taking WC seriously. ...Rose Hill's starters were benched to begin the second half (Queen and Faulkner had already sat out the 2nd quarter, each with 2 fouls) and did not return until 1:41 of the 3rd quarter. Tremendous effort on the part of the young reserve players in the 3rd quarter. Kaylyn Gambill's 12 points kept the Lady Royals in the game and made it possible to win at the end. That 3rd quarter may prove beneficial during the rest of the season, the 6th, 7th and 8th graders having gained some confidence. Credit the WC defense for keeping the RHCS offense off balance throughout the night. RHCS, in my view, once again failed to take advantage of opportunities on the inside. Whether by design or failure to execute what was called, but I can recall only two feeds to the post. Raceland coaches were spotted in the stands. Glad to have the extra fan base make the trip with the Lady Royal faithful.
  7. Queen: 17 pts, 4/8 (includes 1/2 3ptrs), 8/8 free throws, 8 rebs Terry: 5 pts, 2/6 (includes 1/4 3ptrs), 7 rebs Faulkner: 10 pts, 5/13 (includes 0/1 3ptrs), 2 rebs Dundon: 2 pts, 1/5 (includes 0/1 3ptrs), 2 rebs Hammonds: 4 pts, 2/4, 1 reb Gambill: 12 pts, 4/6 (all shots were 3ptrs) Queen went to the bench late in the 1st quarter with 2 fouls and did not return to the game until the 1:41 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Her game winning jumper came with 8 seconds left in the ballgame. Kaylyn Gambill grew up this evening, as the 6th grader hit 4 critical 3pt shots. Congratulations, Kaylyn on a great performance. Mom and Dad must be very proud.
  8. Most agree that the winner of the Rose Hill / Raceland game (assuming both get past the first round) will advance to Richmond to represent the 16th Region.
  9. Nicely put. It certainly isn't difficult to make the case for Brown. She is the strongest player at her position that I've seen and has quickness to go with her physical strength. I would like to see her against Scott County or LexCath. Brown and Queen played together the past two summers and it was fun to see them on the floor together. If you can run the floor, Hope can get it to you...and you better have good hands, because the pass will come quickly. I wish those of us in the eastern part of the state had more opportunities to see her play. If you know her, express to her good wishes from one of her Blue Chip Elite teammates.
  10. I am in complete agreement...and thanks.:thumb:
  11. Queen: 22 pts, 7/15 (includes 2/4 3ptrs), 6/7 free throws, 10 rebs, 3 asts, 3 blks, 6 trnovrs Terry: 29 pts, 11/16 (includes 3/5 3ptrs), 2/2 free throws, 6 rebs, 2 asts, 3 blks, 9 trnovrs Faulkner: 1 pt, 0/6 (includes 0/1 3ptrs), 1/2 free throws, 1 rebs, 7 asts, 7 trnovrs Dundon: 8 pts, 4/7, 2 rebs At some point, someone is going to have to realize that the game is not a horserace, slow it down when need be, limit the one-on-one playground moves, cut the turnovers to a reasonable number, pass into better shot selections, and take better advantage of mismatches inside when we get them. There...I feel better. Actually, I hope much was learned this evening about what a team effort can accomplish. An effort like that can get the Lady Royals back to Richmond and maybe, just maybe back to Bowling Green.
  12. Gotta ask for some help with the translation here, Pal...
  13. I'm not sure how to respond to being "called out" on BGP!! I've got to say, GottaRebound, we probably agree on a lot, but you've got my head spinning with this last tirade. Truth is...I like your style!!:thumb: Let me say only this...I've taken too many stands for the tastes of too many people at Rose Hill, angering too many of those with too much control and the ability to run too many dedicated and loyal people too far away to be of any meaningful use. I'm having too much fun here...but you get the point.
  14. I will try to be more precise in qualifying my remarks in the future!! All this parsing of words has me feeling the pressure. See my earlier remarks for a bit of clarification on "overacheiving." While I'm not giving up on the idea of the Lady Royals beating Russell this year...should they meet in Morehead...I believe Russell is the clear favorite and I will gladly support them in Bowling Green.
  15. Their overachieving had to do, in my mind, with the fact that they used only 6 players more than their lack of quality players. That said, to get past Russell in the Regional and then to advance to the final was more than I think even the most loyal fan expected.
  16. It's hard to disagree with Mcpapa on this one. The Lady Royals will be hard pressed to keep the score close, for reasons having less to do with the supposed "differences" that you suggest than that they simply do not have the "best talent in the region." I think I understand what you meant...and I certainly appreciate your kind words about Emily. My point is simply this...that while Rose Hill may have the two best players in the region (and I hesitate to use such language...even that distinction is based on what they have accomplished in their respective careers, their consistent production, etc, and not on their ability to "dominate" other players in the region...there are some very, very good players in this region), they do not have the best team talent by any stretch and I have not yet joined the ranks of those who think this team can "make another run." Would I like to see it? Of course, but my goodness, what an incredible feat it would be for this team to beat the quality teams in this region and beyond. I say that, not to disparage this year's team or any players on it, or to imply that they aren't capable...but to recall again just how overachieving was last year's team and to point out how much more difficult is the task of winning this year. We lost 3 of the only 6 players that saw minutes last year. As for girls basketball not being appreciated... There is certainly a lot of interest on BGP and other sites, and there are several independent sports writers who devote their time to only girls basketball.
  17. Yeah, that "1" right beside the "5" on the keyboard is tough to miss.
  18. The rest of the region has to be wondering just how good this team can be, when they are able to put up numbers like that...without Euton having to score.
  19. Congratulations to Miss Fortman. Yes, she does deserve serious consideration. She has consistently demonstrated her versatility, an ability to play on both ends of the floor and court smarts.
