  1. All right...all together now...everybody sing... Kum Ba Ya, my Lord, Kum Ba Yah....
  2. Man, did you catch that redheaded speed merchant who tore up the Upwards League a few years ago?
  3. Whatever the case, it will be nice to see the Lady Royals get more time on the court...whether at home or away...and with kind of competition Coach Euton appears to be trying to schedule, she clearly is trying to get her team ready for post-season play in what has become a toss-up of a region.
  4. My thanks to you as well. It will be strange, but fun, seeing them go against one another next year when MTSU and Louisville meet. One other interesting aside...Louisville and MTSU are currently rated #18 and #19 respectively.
  5. I will keep you posted...you have the baked goods ready.
  6. The 25-4 disparity in free throws was obviously a key, as was the loss of Chad Jackson for RH. I would add that it did appear that there was the same contact on the ball up top and on shooters on both ends of the floor. One is always disappointed when the calls don't seem to be going your way. No conspiracy theory...just one of those things that have to be said. The Tomcat's stronger bodies seemed to take their toll on the younger Royals. There appeared to be routine contact and positioning under the basket on both ends of the floor, but the Royals were unable to move bodies like the Tomcats did. Euton and Jackson had some impressive rebounds, but they had little help. Ashland's kids moved the ball well, didn't force shots and seemed to hit the 3 when it was most needed. I don't think they had a high percentage, but when they came, they were heartbreakers. It is always fun to watch Drew McDavid...a great kid and wonderful athlete...and who exhibits what can only be described as basketball smarts on the floor. The Jackson/Thomas and Euton/McDavid match-ups...in my view, great contrasts in styles...and are as good as any in the region and ones I hope fans get to see again. With all due respect to Scooterbob, I was pleased to see the game scheduled and hope that the conduct on the floor by both teams demonstrates to adults on both sides why these kids should be allowed to compete. I suspect that players on both teams look forward to a rematch.
  7. Since you brought it up... Stud athlete, sharp mind, great young man (and you don't want to insult his little brother and let him learn your BGP ID...we're talking huge man:eek: )...but his greatest assets are his beautiful wife and precious baby boy...about whom, I suspect...if he learns to handle the rock that his grandfather Euton gave him for Christmas (his first Reebok)...we will be reading on these pages years down the road...if Mommy and Daddy ever get on the stick and GET BACK TO KY!!
  8. Thanks, my dear. If you're not out with one of the local silver haired bachelors that evening, maybe you could catch a ride to Hardin County. I sure would like for you to see our kids give a better effort than what you saw against Shelby County.
  9. Here's hoping Coach Euton is successful in trying to get several more games on the schedule and I thank her for her efforts. The scuttlebutt is that a couple of the Hardin County schools are considering giving the Lady Royals a game and that LCA is willing to make the trip to Ashland for a game at Stewart Gymnasium (the RH fans will enjoy the play of LCA's Emily London). Those three games late in the season will do much to prepare the Lady Royals for District and, hopefully, Regional competition at home.
  10. Controlling the boards could make the difference for the Royals...if they have the physical strength to match-up against the stronger Tomcats. From another thread.... State Leaders as of Jan. 19th: Player School G Reb Avg Steffphon Pettigrew, Elizabethtown 16 228 14.3 Brian Swan, North Bullitt 12 156 13.0 Tanner Jacobs, Lou. Trinity 16 208 13.0 Josh Crawford, Corbin 14 178 12.7 Chad Jackson, Rose Hill Christian 12 143 11.9 Dakotah Euton, Rose Hill Christian 12 143 11.9
  11. Some of the region champs may not be determined until this evening.
  12. ...Hammonds, Day, Gambill, Cullup, among others...and Young (wait 'till you see her) :thumb:
  13. Your thread topic is a little vague, Walrus, but here's some info that Rose Hill supporters might like. Emily Queen currently has 2639 career points and 1369 career rebounds, which puts her 72 points behind West Carter’s Megen Gearhart (1998-2003, 2711 career points) for the 16th Region’s all-time career scoring lead. Her current rebound total already places her as the 16th Region all-time leader in rebounds. These figures are derived from the KHSAA’s career stats figures. The figures also rank her as the Rose Hill’s all-time leader in both categories…for both girls and boys. Were it not for the fact that the Lady Royals schedule is short of the maximum number of games that the KHSAA allows, Emily would most likely break into the top 25 all-time scoring leaders as well as the top 10 all-time rebounding leaders in the history of girls basketball in the state. Should the Lady Royals advance through the District Tournament competition and the Region, she may well accomplish both feats anyway. With only 5 games remaining on the regular season schedule, she will fall just short. Laura Terry is 22 points away from reaching the 2000 career points total and has 788 career rebounds. Thanks to both girls for your hard work and dedication, for what you have meant to Rose Hill and to girls basketball in the 16th Region.
  14. Where are you wanting to go with this thread, Walrus?
  15. Lexington Christian, behind Emily London's leadership, looks like the favorite to me, but I'm hoping the Lady Rams from Raceland can make some noise on behalf of the 16th Region.
  16. Let me try to explain... I think you would agree that your most recent posts concerning Emily, beginning with the Boyd County Tournament, had been leaning to the negative side. That you said something demonstrating a measure of kindness towards her was a welcome change and I tried to encourage that by injecting a bit of levity...which I thought you might appreciate. I have to say that I half expected you to challenge the stats that I posted for this game (I was prepared to give chapter and verse from the Stats Manual for every assist, rebound, steal, etc...I was loaded for bear;) ). Thanks for the best wishes; I'll pass them along. I'm not sure the rest of our fellow BGPers will like this new and calm behavior on our parts. I think we provided some momentary cheap entertainment.
  17. I would like to read more about the game...how Fortman and Okoro played...stats.
  18. I thought about starting a new thread with this, but would like to make sure that Rose Hill suporters see this...if there is an interest. If you follow the Lady Royals, you'll know that Emily Queen is going to Middle Tennessee next year. The link below is to a story in the Murfreesboro, TN's Daily News Journal and is a brief report in the sports section about one of MTSU's seniors. Grissy Givens is last year's Sun Belt MVP as well as the Defensive Player of the Year. More than that, she is a special young woman and has earned the respect of coaches and players throughout the Sun Belt Conference. After watching his team lose to Middle Tennessee yesterday, Arkansas-Little Rock coach, Joe Foley, asked Grissy to...get this...come to his locker room and speak to his team. What a classy tribute. I've never heard of such a thing and think it is a wonderful story. http://www.dnj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070121/SPORTS/701210323/1006
  19. I agree...no vendetta...just disappointing, especially for the seniors. Regardless of the size of the school, the history, the wins and losses or records...one never wants to take off the jersey for the last time.
  20. '03-'04: 25 regular season, 1 post-season '04-'05: 21 regular season, 3 post-season '05-'06: 26 regular season, 9 post-season It's doubly disappointing when you finished as the state runner-up. One would think that everyone would have been willing to schedule us.
  21. Unless there have been changes, the Lady Royals are scheduled to play East Carter on the 22nd.
  22. And she is precisely the one I had in mind when I posted. I just couldn't resist...and I could have written the responses that I knew would be forthcoming. I'll try and do better.:sssh:
  23. At the end of the regular season, the Lady Royals will have completed a 20 game schedule...6 games less than the RHCS boys as well as most other girls teams in the area against whom RHCS will be competing in the post season. Apart from the obvious missed opportunities for experience and preparation for the post season, it's a bit disappointing when it's the last go round for seniors and kids who are hoping to be recognized for (and here I will use words everyone likes to gasp at and accuse those of us who are thinking of such things as being selfish)...individual achievements.
  24. They force those of us who choose to put our children in private schools to pay school taxes in order to bus them.
