  1. Too late to edit my previous remarks, but I had to return to this thread and add the following...1) I was speaking of Emily Queen in the hushed remarks above and 2) which is too good to have been planned any better... Emily Queen ended her high school career with a 25 points & 14 rebounds performance in Thursday's Sweet 16 1st Round loss to Pike County Central. That 25 points brought her career points total to 2907, which, if I'm correct, ties her with Rebecca Gray. I can't think of a better player with whom Emily will share such a distinction.
  2. And she represented 16th Region basketball quite well.
  3. This has been my understanding of the purpose of Miss Basketball. I applaud Emily London for her fine accomplishments this season and I said in another thread that she has put herself in the top echelon of candidates. That said, it would be nice for all interested parties to see her career numbers. To date, only one or two have been forthcoming. Here's hoping Rebecca was not hurt in yesterday's All Star game. I enjoyed watching her. She has the grace and fluid style that I like to see in an athlete. ...and it would have been nice to see her and Emily run the floor together, but don't tell the 16th Region coaches:sssh:
  4. Congratulations to LCA and to Emily London. If the voting hasn't already taken place, you've vaulted yourself to the top of the heap among Miss Basketball candidates. It was a pleasure to watch such a disciplined and intelligent basketball team. A great lesson for all.
  5. Please quote a post of mine that is unseemly or out of line. I didn't start this thread, but like others can't help but wonder about the outcome...a perfectly ordinary response. It amazes me that when one attempts to simply discuss something rationally, he is accused of being upset. As for Emily being slighted, how could I answer that? I don't know what was in the mind of voters. That's what this entire discussion is all about...trying to understand the vote. I've stated my support for the top vote getters. My family and I are going to the game. We will support them. What more can I do to demonstrate that I have the same mature understanding of the matter as you? I simply have the same natural curiosity as other observers. As for something "her father" may have done...well, you've stumped me there...and I think you are the one that has stretched the discussion with that suggestion. But wouldn't that be interesting? I and others have gone to great lengths to keep from criticizing Jessica Fortman. Nothing is as obvious as you suggest...by any standard of measurement, career, current year or head-to-head meetings between the teams...thus the natural reaction and questions to the outcome. No one is storming the court here; we're just kicking the matter around.
  6. I'm neither contesting nor confirming the accuracy of your post; I don't know what you saw. I simply curious if you intend to post about a host of other matters concerning which it is easy to comment based upon outside observation and perception.
  7. And it has already been used against her in another thread. As I said earlier...quite a circus. Great stuff for BGPers though.
  8. ...and it makes one uncomfortable to discuss the matter. To even raise a question gives the appearance of being critical of the fine players that will represent the 16th Region. I have kept that in mind throughout the thread and have posted accordingly. This is a perfectly legitimate discussion and has come about as the result of the last two year's of POY votes in the 16th Region.
  9. This has absolutely nothing...nothing whatsoever to do with who plays and who doesn't, winning and losing and handling adversity. One's abilities and accomplishments are not measured by another's vote. It has everything to do with using the KABC as a platform to make statements about matters other than on-court performances of the players...and naiveté reigns supreme if one denies it.
  10. Just for the record, Emily will be attending the All Star game and cheering for her fellow 16th Region players. Congratulations to both girls. What a circus.
  11. When do you come out with your Best Dressed List? And will you be commenting on tattoos, language, music, hair, make-up?
  12. I for one was not "whining." My post was rather matter-of-fact and I did not say the refs cost RH the game. I simply said...and stand by it...that one officials calls dictated the flow of the game. I further stated that PCC may well have won the game anyway. I for one think they have an excellent chance against LCA...and wish them success.
  13. And there it is again...a not so subtle way to let us all know that even Okoro was placed ahead of Emily.
  14. And there you have it from one of their own. I've wanted to comment...and will respond with more to this entire matter later...but clearly Emily was just as eligible as Jessica Fortman to receive votes for POY. It matters to a girl who is trying to understand it all...but I'll have more to say about it later.
  15. Had the game been called the way the four games we've seen since, the Lady Royals would be getting ready to play this evening. When fans and coaches from other schools come to you to complain and offer sympathies, you realize you are not just finding excuses. Pike County may well have pulled it out with Terry and Faulkner in the game...they are certainly capable and I wish them well...but the pace and flow of the game was dictated by one official and one expects better in a state tournament. For the record, 16th Region officials, Marla Gearhart and Bobby Hall, did a fine job this afternoon during the Assumption vs Barren County game.
  16. Cute, but trust me...with what the process has become, the kleenex box will be saved for something of genuine importance...like a well made commercial about a little lost puppy.
  17. This may not be the place for it, but I figure my RH buddies will read this and it is for your eyes that I post it. Some of what has been said here along with posts from several other threads (as Patrick would say, "Who are these people?") have me to the point where I am just about ready to quote Bobby Knight's famous poem about what "my critics" can do when "they bury me upside down.":D I couldn't resist...and, as I've said before, I mean that in the kindest possible way.
  18. You might want to consider revising your remarks. When and it what post did I take your comments as sarcasm? I bent over backwards to compliment you.
  19. I hesitate to reply, but I'm going to assume honest intentions on your part. So in answer to your question...UK, WKU, EKU, Georgia, Vandy, Cincinnati, Davidson...and a host of others. Emily chose MTSU because...as I do...she believes they have the best coaching staff, kids she likes and wants to play with (she adores Chelsia Lymon...as do her mother and I...as well as the current freshman and '07 signees), believed (at the time...not so now) that they are under the radar and going places (a challenge she liked), had the best academic support system....and simply put was not looking for the biggest name program, but for the best people and place to spend four of the most important years of her life. Oh, alright, I'll play along...Emily holds an almost identical GPA and has taken AP and Honors classes for the past two years. We'd better stop with the periphery or we'll be comparing Homecoming pictures. Well said...and I appreciate the effort to be objective. As for stats, I would add the following (to use the format used earlier for Rebecca Gray): Queen: 2882 pts, 1499 rebounds, 365 steals and 309 assists...with a four year record of 68-42. Of note, is a State Runner-Up finish in that total...and 14 fewer games than what Gray has played. Some simple extrapolation (which I think would be justified using Emily's consistent 4 year averages...see my earlier post...a double-double for 4 years is no small acheivement) and you get a fair idea of her ability to produce on both ends of the floor. As for your last point about the coaches in the area...I would suggest that you reserve judgment until the ADI/Coaches POY comes out. Finally, I must add for the sake of those readers who follow this but aren't aware of it how much Emily and Rebecca enjoyed their brief opportunity to meet and play together last summer. The entire discussion for me...and I'm repeating portions of previous posts here...is animated, not by an attempt to disparage a player or take away from her acheivements, but rather to expose just how poor all the reporting on the matter up until now has been. This notion of one player being so superior relative to her peers that no others should be considered viable candidates is nonsense...and it is unfair to the '07 class as well as Rebecca Gray herself. It is for that reason that I appreciate all the more your efforts to make valid and reasonable comparisons. I wish we could hear similar information on the other top players in the state.
  20. Thanks for your kind words and support. You and others like you are why I am more and more a 16th Region fan...relative to all others...and not just a Lady Royals fan. I am trying not to let myself imagine what it would be like to once again play on Saturday...and even Saturday night. The excitement is too much!!
  21. My point was simply...and quite obviously...that it means nothing, or at least it shouldn't, when considering votes for any type of state recognition. But then again, therein lies the problem. What exactly is one deciding when selecting Miss Basketball? I very much appreciate the link you provided and the information which can be found there (a nice site...someone does good work), but I have to say...it is unfortunate that you feel the need to call anyone who proposes a reasonable and informative discussion a "Gray doubter." No one has come close to suggesting she is anything less than a fine player with a tremendous future. Typical of the pre-season hype (again, witness the pre-season CatsPause article which stated that there is no close second) and refusal to acknowledge how many fine players should be under consideration. "Hands down"...please. Those of us outside the mid-state "metropolitan areas" are not altogether stupid and can make some fairly reasonable assumptions about players...in this instance a kid who is 6'1", just as mobile and quick...if not more so...than even most of the guards she's faced, let alone the wing players, and much stronger inside...and has been as or more productive against very good competition and oftentimes the same...certainly within the state. I have my own ideas of what Emily can do against Rebecca...as well as other match-ups among the other top players in the state that I would like to see, but have resisted simply stating that opinion (which would turn this into something personal, which it is not)...which would be just as meaningless as your "hands down" opinion. I've simply tried to reasonably discuss the on-court accomplishments of each of the kids and to give consideration to what voters will do...all the while wondering what it is they consider. I will applaud Rebecca Gray, her family, coach and teammates, should she be recognized as Miss Basketball. Trust me, the recognition Emily has received of late from those who know her best...her own coaching staff, other 16th Region coaches, teammates and fans...means more to her than other recognition that might come her way. And I guess I can add...those of us who enjoy and give due recognition to all those under discussion here can look forward to the Middle Tennessee vs North Carolina match-up to come next season (UNC asked MTSU for the game...site is undetermined at this time). That is what makes all of this so much fun.
  22. I am one of those who've made reservations at the crow dinner scheduled for the naysayers. I knew we had talent, but early on I didn't think we could get back to Diddle. I was confident entering Saturday night's game, but that confidence was a long time coming. When one considers the loss of three senior starters (Yates and Spradlin rotated, but each was every bit a starter), it is amazing what Pam, Mark and the entire staff have accomplished. Congratulations on a job well done.
