  1. Back up the bus, pal. No one claimed to have been mistreated...at least not here. My tongue-in-cheek remark to ShooterX3 was exactly that...tongue-in-cheek...as I'm sure ShooterX3 readily recognized. The kids themselves would laugh about the matter...and do so. It's no big deal. You treat this discussion as it if those under discussion and those participating don't know each other and would not quite normally shell out such give-and-take in person. That just isn't so and the kind of hypersensitivity that some have demonstrated is unwarranted, in my view. As for the ADI, let me go on record as saying that it was I who apologized to them for not notifying them that the record would most likely be broken on a certain day which would have allowed them to send a reporter and photographer to the gym. They offered their own apologies, we agreed it was regrettable, a third party sent a picture, and the reporter wrote a fine article...end of story...except to have fun with the incredibly obvious difference between a 4-picture, two article spread and an article that was accompanied by a single picture. No one has taken a shot or demeaned anyone, least of all a kid we all know and care for.
  2. Whoa...I've not checked this thread for several days and didn't think my friendly jab at ShooterX3 would cause such a fuss. Let me be very clear that we are big fans of Jonathan and were pleased to see the way both his school and the ADI recognized his accomplishments. Would we like to have seen the ADI at the RH vs Elliott game when Emily broke the record? Certainly...but I'm hoping it was a failure to properly communicate with them on our part and not an editorial decision on their part. Hey, there's always a chance that POY honors may come her way this year, and then...well, we'll just have to wait and see.
  3. Queen: 11 pts, 5/16 (0/1 3ptr), 1/2 free throws, 10 rebs, 5 stls, 4 blks, 7 asts Terry: 36 pts, 13/23 (4/10 3ptrs), 6/9 free throws, 7 rebs, 4 stls, 7 blks, 2 asts Faulkner: 9 pts, 4/11, 1/5 free throws, 3 stls, 7 asts Adkins: 4 pts, 2/3, 4 rebs Dundon: 2 pts, 1/3, 2 rebs Hammonds: 3 pts, 1/1, 1/2 free throws Good win, however ragged was the play at times, in a tough venue. Congratulations, Laura, on your season high and a superb all around game.
  4. One more comment before I crash... I want to congratulate Kelsee Hammonds, Maria Friley, Lindsay Adkins and Abbey Dundon for their fine defensive effort tonight. Others get more press, girls, but your efforts do not go unnoticed and are much appreciated.
  5. The Himmelfarbs, as the Lord wills, should make it just in time for the varsity game. And for the record, tonight's refs were more than gracious after the game and wished us good luck in post-season play. I told them how much I appreciated their, ugh hum...forbearance...during the game with some of the more vocal Lady Royal fans. Who were those people?
  6. It's official, the Lady Royals play again tomorrow night at Belfry, 5:30 & 7:00.
  7. Queen: 29 pts, on 10/16 shooting (1/3 3ptrs), 8/9 free throws, 19 rebs, 5 stls, 2 asts Terry: 21 pts, on 7/11 shooting (3/4 3ptrs), 4/4 free throws, 10 rebs, 2 stls, 1 ast Faulkner: 14 pts, on 7/17 shooting, 3 rebs, 3 stls, 7 asts Cullop: 2 pts, 2/2 free throws Down 27-24 at the half, the Lady Royals outscored Greenup County 21-8 in the 3rd quarter.
  8. Thanks, my friend, but can you tell me what a kid has to do to get a four-picture spread in the ADI?!!:
  9. I had to promise my wife this evening that you had in fact posted paternal and not parental. She believed me...but I was sweatin' 'til I got home before she did to confirm it. We're both off the hook.:thumb: And thanks for the kind words.
  10. Thanks, Boatman. Tell a certain young lady that we wish her good luck this week, as coaches from a certain school south of the KY/TN border will be watching.:thumb:
  11. Here, let me hand you the next bucket of cold water. Seriously, thanks for pointing that out. That is quite an accomplishment...to have put up such numbers without the use of a 3pt shot...and I'm guessing schools didn't play over 20 games or so in a season then. What about that?
  12. I agree...and I've never seen two coaches enjoy themselves more or more sincere in their congratulations of an opposing player. Congratulations and thanks to both of them.
  13. Already the all-time leading rebounder in the 16th Region, Emily Queen entered tonight's game against Elliott County needing 23 points to break Megan "Penny" Gearhart's 16th Region all-time scoring record (West Carter '98-'03, 2711 points). Emily scored 38 points and collected 17 rebounds in Rose Hill's 84-70 victory to become the 16th Region's all-time leader in both categories (2727 points, 1414 rebounds). Congratulations Emily.
  14. Stats for RH are as follows: Emily Queen: 38 pts, on 17/25 shooting (includes 1/1 3ptrs), 3/6 free throws, 17 rebs, 5 asts, 4 stls Laura Terry: 17 pts, on 7/10 shooting (includes 2/4 3ptrs), 1/2 free throws, 4 rebs, 3 asts, 1 stl Brit Faulkner: 7 pts, on 2/6 shooting, 3/4 free throws, 9 rebs, 8 asts, 5 stls Lindsay Adkins: 6 pts, on 3/4 shooting, 3 rebs, 1 stl Abbey Dundon: 4 pts, on 2/3 shooting, 1 ast, 1 stl Kelsee Hammonds: 2 rebs Maria Friley: 4 pts, on 1/3 shooting, 2/2 free throws, 1 reb Kaylyn Gambill: 6 pts, on 2/6 shooting (includes 2/4 3ptrs), 1 reb Kayla Day: 2 pts on 1/2 shooting, 1 reb Rebecca Mays: 1 reb 1 team rebs, 17 turnovers, 15 fouls Rose Hill was up at the half, 45-29 and 64-43 at the end of the 3rd. Elliott County cut the lead to 11. Britt hit 2 free throws to put RH up by 19 again before Emily went out with cramps. Laura Terry fouled out with over 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Emily began to cramp mid-way through the 3rd quarter, but stayed in the game. She went to the floor with leg cramps after hitting a lay-up with just over 2:20 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter, left the game and did not return. Congratulations to the Lady Royals and the coaching staff. Tonight was as good an effort as you've shown since the LexCath game...and was probably the best you've played as a team. Britt Faulkner had a superb floor game...and played with maturity and control. Well done, Britt.
  15. Get it done, Lady Royals...and stay healthy doing it! As for Emily breaking Gearhart's 16th Region scoring record, she needs 23 points. I'm guessing Elliott County will have something to say about whether or not she can do it. They beat Fairview pretty handily and have been playing some good basketball, but I'll take RH by 11. I just hope they do it with music and an announcer present!! I never realized how much the two add to a game atmosphere until the Lady Royals played without either at the last home game. The place was flat and so were the kids.
  16. Laura entered her freshman season with 287 points from varsity play as a 7th & 8th grader. Her totals from the past 4 years are as follows: '03-'04: 347 pts, 15.1 '04-'05: 437 pts, 18.4 '05-'06: 656 pts, 18.7 Currently: 281 pts, 16.4 Congrats again, Laura.
  17. Jessica Fortman and Chinwe Okoro were recognized in a fine article in this morning's ADI. Congratulations to both girls. http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_040003758.html The attached photos are the work (retouched with permission) of ADI photographer, John Flavel.
  18. Which is to say what, that it does not occur? Hey, I didn't write the Manual; I just quoted it. One quick example that comes to mind is a when a player gets a defensive board, makes a quick outlet pass to the other end of the floor and the recipient of the pass hands off or makes a routine pass to another player for a layup. The assist could and probably should be awarded to the player that made the first pass. This would obviously change if there was a defender contesting on the other end of the floor.
  19. Congratulations once again to Coach Bradley. The guy can develop kids, improve their game and prepare a team. Conratulations also to Ali Wilcox on a stellar performance.
  20. Note: Britt Faulkner's stats did not show up in this morning's ADI listing of Area Girls High School Basketball Statistics. Her assist total of 77 in 18 games would have shown her to be tied as the leader with a per game average of 4.3. Good job, Britt.
  21. No need to start a new thread with this (although it might have been an interesting one), but I thought some RH fans might be curious. Below are a few notes from the Official 2006 NCAA® Basketball Statisticians Manual that may or may not be entirely understood by all…especially regarding rewarding steals and rebounds to the one tipping the ball with control to a teammate… or that there is no limit to the number of dribbles taken by a scorer that resulted in awarding an assist…or that the assist may not have been the result of the last pass on the play. FIELD GOALS – Philosophy. A player should not be charged for a shot from the field influenced by the illegal actions of himself or herself, or any teammates or opponents unless the shot results in an FGM. SHOOTING ACCURACY—A player should not be charged for a shot from the field or from the free-throw line influenced by the illegal actions of himself or herself, teammates, or opponents, unless the shot results in a field goal or free throw made. Shooting percentages should reflect as closely as possible the accuracy of the player and his or her team. Shooting percentages should not reflect shots that failed under the influence of illegal actions. REBOUNDS - Philosophy. A player should be credited with a rebound only if the player earned that rebound before the ball was dead. What happened after the ball became dead and what would have happened if the ball had not become dead might be different. The statistician should not attempt to decide what would have happened but should decide only what did happen. However, if there is doubt about player control, the statistician may assume that there was control. Article 1. A rebound is credited to a player or a team each time an FGA or FTA is not made. There are three kinds of rebounds: (a) An individual rebound (player rebound) is credited to a player who recovers a live ball that has missed scoring a goal (field goal or free throw). The recovery may be accomplished: (1) By gaining control of the ball. (2) By tipping or batting the ball in an attempt to score a goal. (3) By tipping or batting the ball to a teammate so that the teammate or another teammate is the first to gain control. (4) By retrieving a rebound simultaneously with an opposing player and having his or her own team be the first to be entitled to the ball. ASSISTS - Philosophy. An assist should be more than a routine pass that just happens to be followed by a field goal. It should be a conscious effort to find the open player or to help a player work free. There should not be a limit on the number of dribbles by the receiver. It is not even necessary that the assist be given on the last pass. There is no restraint on the distance or type of shot made, for these are not the crucial factors in determining whether an assist should be credited. A player is credited with an assist when the player makes, in the judgment of the statistician, the principal pass contributing directly to a field goal (or an awarded score of two or three points). Only one assist is to be credited on any field goal and only when the pass was a major part of the play. STEALS - Philosophy. To earn a steal, the defensive player should be the initiator of the action causing the turnover, not just the benefactor. The steal should be a take-away, not just a recovery and not just a forced error. A steal is credited to a player when the player’s positive, aggressive action(s), which includes contact with the ball, causes a turnover by an opponent. This may be accomplished by: (a) Taking the ball away from an opponent in control of the ball. (b) Getting a hand on the ball in control of an opponent and causing a held ball to be called, and having his or her team be awarded the ball for a throw-in. © Batting a ball in control of an opponent to a teammate. (d) Batting a ball in control of an opponent away from and off the opponent and out of bounds. (e) Intercepting an opponent’s pass. (f) Deflecting an opponent’s pass to a teammate. (g) Deflecting an opponent’s pass away from and off an opponent and out of bounds.
