  1. That explains the chicked dance Emily did in the end zone after being fouled on a lay-up.
  2. And there you have it. I'm obviously biased in my desire to have seen Emily recognized, but I genuinely think it would have been good for the entire region's fan base and would have been a nice touch during any night of the tournament.
  3. There you go...a fairly objective measurement. Catholic and Novosell provide as good a standard as any and I would like to have seen the match-up. I would counter that Queen had 22 & 10 against Catholic (while holding Novosell to 11). I agree that Scott County plays as tough a schedule as any, but Gray has the advantage of a much stronger supporting cast as well. Points, Rebounds, Assists, Steals, etc,...for the past 4 years would be a good start. This is not an argument. I agree with you that Rebecca Gray would be a fine choice...great player and great kid...but an honest look at her career stats (as well as others mentioned in earlier posts) would be of real benefit to all interested parties. One might just as well list a player's favorite food.
  4. I'm sure it's hard for them to remember when nutjobs like the two of us...and a certain guy who tends to get physical when he gets excited...get going in the stands, but I'm glad you reminded them. I have to say that the few 16th Region officials I've had the pleasure of speaking with away from the court have sure been gracious and seem to understand that, in most cases, the perpetrators are crazy dads...and some moms...fans and friends who are just trying to express the emotion of the moment and that it is all very quickly forgotten.
  5. That's the thing about numbers...they are a measure of performance, tend to leave little room for opinions and one can't take them away. The Miss Basketball title may go to any one of a number of players...either one of which can be said to be "deserving"...as much as one can deserve what has become a popularity contest based, evidently...given the hype leading up to the season...upon the success of some in AAU play, the opinions of unnamed college coaches, professional recruiters and even where a kid chooses to play college ball. To this day, I've not read or heard one reasoned explanation of the qualifications for Miss Basketball...or what coaches and voters are supposed to consider when they vote. In this instance, Emily Queen's numbers rank her among some of the best to have played...more points than Arnika Brown, Sarah Elliott, and Clemette Haskins, to name a few...and more rebounds than SeSe Helm, Crysal Kelly and Jenni Benningfield. I don't think there is a kid in her '07 class that has accomplished more. Now, to say such a thing is not to demean any other player or to diminish their own fine accomplishments. Rather, it is to say that regardless of how one feels about another player or one's preference in style...Emily can finish her high school career with the confidence that no one among her peers has done more.
  6. Wireman, any thoughts on Rowan County not placing any kids on the All Tournament Team? I didn't get to see them play, but am an admirer of Coach Thomas and his schemes and am curious about the All Tourney situation.
  7. You obviously have a strong opinion and that's great...and I and others doubtless feel as strongly in our respective opinions, but what exactly does "hands down" mean? Have you seen her matched up against some of the other candidates? Does she have better numbers? Do you not see any need to inject some objectivity into the discussion? Cheerleading for one's favorite is one thing, but at some point it would be nice to compare actual on-court accomplishments among the leading candidates.
  8. Emily Queen: Freshman, '03-'04: 24.7 pts, 13.2 rebs, 3.5 asts, 3.1 stls Sophomore: '04-'05: 21.9 pts, 11.3 rebs, 3.0 asts, 3.4 stls Junior: '05-'06: 16.7 pts, 11.3 rebs, 2.5 asts, 3.0 stls Current/Senior: '06-'07: 22.0 pts, 11.7 rebs, 2.4 asts, 3.5 stls Emily currently has 2882 career points and 1499 career rebounds (16th Region all-time leader in both categories...and only 3 girls in the state's history have more combined points & rebounds). Her rebounds are all the more indicative of her talents and efforts on the court when you take into account that she plays all 5 positions and runs the point in the event that foul trouble takes the starting point guard out of the game...and she has done that since her freshman season.
  9. Well said, Claude Henry. So many times votes, awards and players receiving special recognition comes down to the personal preferences of those casting votes...and one can't change it...and I don't know that it is worth worring about. We are all the same in that regard (I'll wait for another day to post my thoughts concerning the impact of ones locale, those who practice sports writing as a hobby and feign independence, and even full-time journalists who do the same).
  10. You've said all that needs to be said on the matter, Scooterbob...and I agree with all of it. I would like to add one comment. As I understand it, tournament officials denied Coach Euton's request on the grounds that no individual accomplishments are recognized at the tournament. I find the logic a bit strange in light of the fact that not only will All Tournament Team members be recognized on Saturday night...but winners of drawings for room & board scholarships are recognized nightly. Clearly, someone simply refused to do what would have taken...at best 60 seconds...and would have added a nice touch to the night's proceedings.
  11. Old Shooter beat me to the punch with this thread. Congratulations to Russell and Coach Kidwell.
  12. Okoro evidently had a big night. Congratulations to Russell and Coach Kidwell.
  13. I have always been impressed with her play. She may be the strongest player in the region, is a very agressive defender and has tremendous quickness...and is one of those you would rather have on your team as have to play against.
  14. Please remember our friend and fellow BGPer today, GoRadio, as he and his family remember their son and brother, baby Titus, on this day...the one year anniversary of Titus' going home to his Heavenly Father.
  15. What a game. Saw the first half...listened to GoRadio for the second half. Both teams should be proud of their respective efforts. Paige Porter should know that Coach Easterling had nothing but good things to say about her on the radio after the game...the kind of person she is, the career she's had...and that her missed free throws were no more meaningful than any of the missed shots earlier in the game. I second his remarks. To the Lady Rams as a team...congratulations on a fine year.
  16. Queen: 30 pts, 11/18 shooting (1/1 3ptrs), 7/9 free throws, 9 rebs, 3 stls, 4 blks, 5 asts Terry: 19 pts, 9/16 shooting (1/2 3ptrs), 12 rebs, 3 stls, 10 blks, 3 asts Faulkner: 4 pts, 1/5 shooting, 8 rebs, 6 stls, 7 asts Adkins: 5 pts, 4 rebs, 3 stls Hammonds: 2 pts, 2 stls Day: 3 pts, 1/1 shooting, 1/2 free throws, 1 reb, 1 stl Cullop: 2 pts, 2/2 free throws Mays: 1 pt, 1/2 free throws Team rebs: 2 Another fine team effort on both ends of the floor. Most glaring stat...if one saw the game...Laura Terry didn't go to the line once in the game.
  17. That may be the best thing I've ever seen (or read) on BGP. Great job...by both player and photographer.
  18. I'm pleased to know that GoRadio is not the soothsayer I feared he might be.
  19. Kind of like "predicting" the roll of the dice, isn't it? I hope you're wrong, GoRadio. If you get it right, I'm protesting. I'd much prefer to see a Russell/Rowan 1st round match-up...in the bracket opposite the Lady Royals.:thumb:
  20. So glad you asked, Walrus. I've been out of town for two days...just got into town before gametime last night's game and have been swamped. I'll get them posted later this evening.
  21. Class move on your part.:thumb: Grace, patience and strength to Rachel and her family.
  22. What do you think, Spindoc...does having the thoughts removed from one's head leave a vacuum?
  23. I have to give you the benefit of the doubt, ScottCountyFan, and say I understand that you reacted to what you thought was, at best, a cheap shot and, at worst, a direct criticism of a kid...but let me assure you, it was not. My daughter and I attended the game during which Jonathan broke the school record and are big fans...of him and his entire family.
  24. Now what...have I been offensive yet again? Surely not you, Big Bubba.
