  1. They did.....it was the week before the finals.....this week was just a formality really......Now if we can just get the privates to fall in line everything will be just fine.
  2. Too many to list here if you believe the rumors..........although if you believe the rumors, there are at least 14 aplicants at this time, and some surprises, from what I am hearing.....One VERY surprising person, although I really don't believe it and until I hear some verification, I am not even going there, it might cause a melt down on the board.
  3. I think that he would consider it, and it would be a good fit, Coach Adams for 4-5 years and then bring in Bobby Gibbs, former all-state and Kentucky All Star player at Whiltey and former All-American. As far a Chuch Smith goes.....Well there he goes......That would never happen, but I would say that if he wanted to go back to the high school game, Whitley would be one of the few that could afford him. It will be at least three weeks before anything is done, the job has been posted for 1 week and many many people are interested in the job. When Mike Campbell took over 17 years ago, the program could only get a few applicants, now it is one of the top jobs open. Facilities, adminstration support, a field house just out of sight but on the way, future improvements to the staduim, it has alot to offer. In fact for all he has done for the program, they should name the field house after him or the field or both...............
  4. That may will be the silliest question I have ever seen on this board.
  5. I think we are past the fact that the Corbin (Weekly World News----Baby Contest Central)Times jumped the gun...Lets get back to who is going to replace Coach Campbell.
  6. Kind of sound like the privates in the prop 20 case hear......if they don't get their way they are going to fight it court!!!!! ROFLOL
  7. Who likes the new format with the 4A game on Friday and the rest on Saturday. As a fan who goes to all the games I really don't care for the new format. As fan of a team playing it may be fine. But I don't think my old bones can sit through 3 games at once...two was tough....I think 3 is out of the question.
  8. My only question is this: How can two schools in the same city be in the state championship? The Answer: Because the KHSAA is scared to death of them....Maybe someday somebody with some guts will guide the KHSAA and redistrict things the way they should be. I mean it can't be geography.....it has to be that someone writes some big checks to someone and thus one is east and one is west....get real...is that a level playing field...put them both where they should be....in the same district.
  9. I wonder what rumors....and they are just that at this point....people are hearing on who may be a possible replacement? I have heard some obvious ones like Jim Black, and Paul Rains, I wonder if anyone has thought of Tom Bryant at Pineville? Just curious.
  10. Bottom line and back to the subject. I thought Coach Campbell showed a lot of class with his resignation. If you are interested in reading it in its entirety, it is in the Corbin this Week. His commetns were professional and showed that he truely cared about the program. It will be hard to find a person who could care more than Mike Campbell.
  11. Nosey Mommies called the paper...no great feat of investigative journalism there....
  12. Yes you can....its called RESPECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In fact I think they should be treated better. They are coaching young teenagers, 19-24 or 25 yearold men. The paper jumped the gun and was more interested in sensatioinalism and they fullfilled that by talking to kids......when adults who are smarter withheld comment. The Corbin Times has always been treated with respect and fairly by Coach Campbell. In fact he has gone out of his way to be fair to them, particuliarly when the did not see fit to send a reporter to the game, but only got comments and stats from him on the phone after the game then, obviously it was not a two way street. With all the baby pictures I am surprised that anyone found the article anyway. Players are young and immature and say things sometimes that incite problems and it up to the adults to be more responsible, except for the Legitimate print media, you know the ones the Weekly World News, National Enquirer and the Corbin Times.
  13. Coach Campbell showed class, unfortunately some people did not wait till he could make it official. Which it now is. He will continue his AD duties and will be working towards many goals, which as coach/AD he could not. Now he can focus on things to make the school and the facilities better not just for the football team but all the athletes. As to his replacement. Look for a process in which many canidates will be looked at. I would guess that any replacement would love to be in place by January, but it may take longer to find the right person. Good luck to Mike as he moves into a new phase of his life. He still will support the kids and have all his friends from the coaching profession, which may mean he may be back on the sidelines at some point in the future.
  14. I know one coach they have already contacted.....confirmed.
  15. Excellant post.....well said. I am sure that when it becomes official tomorrow there will be many people who will be sad to see him go. I can tell you so many stories of the sacrifice that Mike Campbell has made for his team. I can tell you stories of times that he has bought clothes and shoes for players, so they could go to school in nice things. Regardless of who gets the job, many in Whitley County will miss him, and Whitley County should count themselves as lucky to have had a coach like Mike Campbell, Honest, hardworking and dedicated.
  16. Although true the Public schools are not with out "sin" they have paid the price in the past for far less serious "transgressions"
  17. What you do for the private schools is a choice, taxes are paid by everyone (in theory). Because you choose not to take advantage of the public schools is your choice, is not a reason to complain. As far as Lex Cath getting penalized.....well I am not in the least surprised. I knew it would not be one of the bigger more politically connected schools from Louisville. I guess what is boils down to is some school had to be the sacrificial lamb, and Lex Cath drew the short straw. Being a catholic myself....sorry about the "sacrificial lamb" although it does fit. One paying for the sins of all.........
  18. If the new coach has no ties he will own no one anything, and can start new, Evryone will recieve a fair shot. Although being from Kentucky will help in scheduling.
  19. Should it come to pass that there is an opening...I don't see Mr. Greer on the list of possible replacements.
  20. Until it becomes official I think that any speculation on who could replace Coach Campbell is just that... speculation. I am sure, should the need arise, there will be a long process, including but not limited to several of the coaches named here and some yet to be named. But it all may be a moot point since there is nothing official yet. As far as the Times article went, only the kids said anything. I think that the author of the article was out of line, the kids do not speak for the school or Coach Campbell. I did not see him talking to the kids for articles last year when North Laurel was looking for a coach. This is a delicate situation, and the kids welfare should be taken into consideration. When you have kids making comments to the papers, all it does is incite hard feelings, for the administration, and any possible coaches that may be there in the future. I don't have a dog in the fight, other than supporting the football program at Whitley County. Until there is anything different, I will support Coach Mike Campbell.
  21. He may have told his team but it is not official yet, according to Lonnie Anderson in the Corbin Times story. Coach Campbell refused comment. Mike Campbell has done tremdous things at Whitley County, lets not forget that. Many of his kids have gone on and done great things, from the start he cared about the kids and although some (players and parents who left) will say different, for their own purely personally reasons, he has done a fantasitc job at Whitley. I was however disappointed in the Corbin Times Story. Until it official regardless of what kids say, I would not have run the story. If and when it becomes official, all the story has done is make a tough situation tougher for everyone involved, including Coach Campbell. Not working in the media, I guess I don't understand how you can disregard the feeling of people involved, from the players to the coach to the coaching staff, to the administration. Sure its news, but it could have waited till evrything is official, getting the scoop does not always make you the winner.
  22. As a fan of a team that HC beat I would like to see them win...good luck blue devils
  23. Serious question Geographicly how close are Trinty and St. X? I am sure that they are closer than Shelby county.....Put them in the same district!!!!! the way it is now the KHSAA by putting them in seperate districts and regions for that matter is just bowing to the wants and desires of the "elite" schools once again.
  24. It ain't bragging if you can back it up........so far they have!!!!!
