  1. Rumor has it interviews were today.....but I have heard nothing.
  2. Why would you disagree? I mean being "4chs" it would appear that the outcome would not matter at all. Seriously what do you base that on.................
  3. Interesting Guess...or do you have inside information???? I think that he would be an excellant choice.
  4. If I knew, I would post it, but don't, so I can't.....but I sure wish I knew!!!!
  5. Look for a Christmas present for all the Whiltey Fans..... A new coach in the coming days....... Merry Christmas to everyone.....God Bless us all!!!!!
  6. Yes they are going to hire a football coach. There are things that have to be done. It was posted and has to remain posted for 30 days, which ends friday. Many (too many) posts have been dedicated to the travels of Tom Greer, and peoples dislikes of him, which is somewhat outside of the topic. That is what has caused the large amount of posts, only about a third of those are concerning what has happened since Coach Campbells resignation.
  7. The closing date for the posting is Friday. Interviews will be after Christmas (or to be PC the Holidays, but you guys know me I am never PC) Unknown number of apps. I have heard as many as 25!!!!!!
  8. Check out the story in the Lexington Herald....at http://www.kentucky.com
  9. I think that we have established that you don't want Tommy Greer at Corbin or Whitley. I also think it is safe to say he won't be either place. Now lets talk about who is going to be the new coach at Whitley County.
  10. Tommy Greer is a excellant coach and kids (no matter where he is) love playing for him. I don't see Tommy going to Corbin. He likes it at Bell and Spencer is comfortable there, so why would he change. I always thought at some point Tommy would get back there, he was a Red Hound and I expected his son to be, but it is just not in the cards. No need to give him a hard time for doing what he thought was best for his family, although you may not agree with all the moves he has made, it was his choice.
  11. Burning Questions in my mind: 1. Will they be Colonels or the Red Storm under the new coach? 2. What type of offense will he bring? 3. What type of defense will he bring? 4. Who the heck it is going to be? 5. Will he bring in new coaches? 6. Who the heck are they going to be? 7. Who the heck is it going to be? 8. Will the old coaches stay? 9. Who the heck is it going to be? 10. When are they going to start interviewing? 11. Who the heck is it going to be? 12. When will they announce it? 13. Who the heck is it going to be? 14. When will he get on campus? 15. Who the heck is it going to be?
  12. Politics aside.............. Can someone list the leading canidates in their opinion........ I have heard everyone but Rich Brooks and I look for that application any day.....or at least in the rumor mill.
  13. Looks to me like you are sandbagging a bit... Whiltey loses two serious players and bring back the core of their team, plus their new coach has them moving in the right direction. I don't see South coming in and being #1 in baseball but maybe four or five.....There is no way Bell will be that high...way too young, but they could be a team that may not win it but has a say in who does.... Like I said earlier Corbin will be Corbin and people should not fool themselves into believing any thing different. Whitley's middle school does not have 800 boys to chose from, only about 350....split about evenly between 7th and 8th grades and remember these are country boys who work farms and don't play alot of baseball till they get to high school. About Coch Powell imposing his will....I would not want to be the head coach with all that glory and all those wins looking over my shoulder. A head coach is a head coach, and he will see things differently than the other guy. No two people see things the same, will he be able to remain silent? Just because Whitley has not won in the past does not mean that they can't or won't win now. John Smith is an excellant coach and the only thing concering Whitley fans right now is if they can keep him, he is a darn fine coach. In his first year, he was district runner up, and region runner up, of course evryone will question Rocks decision to use their pitchers the way they did but the point is they did and Whiltey won, so all the ifs and buts are a moot point. Give Coach Smith two more years and he will solidify the program at Whitley as one of the tops in the region year in and year out.
  14. Well Actually its about 13th region baseball, but someone appears to think that Yellow Jacket baseball IS 13th region baseball. Obviously their are other view points, many of which are that Middlesboro baseball will not be a factor in 13th region baseball. I see Whitley Co., South Laurel, Corbin and Bell Co, along with an upstart team much like Williamsburg last year being the big dogs of the region.
  15. I can see a slip. I was not impressed with their middle school program last year and that is the future. They had some pretty good kids but they were not what I have seen in the past. They were dominated by Whitley and if I remember correctly Corbin beat them too and they struggled with a very subpar Williamsburg team. So I can see a serious slip in the future. Coach Powell is a excellant coach but as the assistant can he really impose his will on the team. Will it cause problems with the head coach. That cannot be a good situation when a former coach comes back as an assistant, he will consantly looking over his shoulder. Certainly MIddlesboro has had some great teams and players, but what have you done for me lately? 22 years? Hey some of the kids playing today can't tell you what a record player is and you expect them to know what happened 22 years ago? The big dogs in the region this year will be teams on the upswing.....not on the down hill side of the glory.
  16. I would think that current magistrate Burley Foley would be a shoe-in. But there are a couple of other people that would also be considered. I am still interested in who is going to succed him at the helm of the football program, I am not too interested in the political side. If he should win and I hope he does, then Whiltey will have to fill the AD position too. Then it could get really interesting.
  17. Middlesbor will be in there this year, make no mistake about that. Bell Co. could be good and a contender but they are so young right now, Spncer Greer will be their best all around player, and he is only a Freshman. So Better days are ahead for the Bobcats. Whitley will be a solid contender, make no mistake about that. They are going to be very solid defensively, and early they hit the ball as well as anyone. They ran out of pitching the the tourny but that is being addressed in the off season conditioning. They have a couple of strong classess coming up with some strong pitching, and hitting. Freshman Cody Jones will challenge for playing time but he will be the only freshman John Smith will look at. South Laurel will be an interesting addition and they could be the wild card in the whole thing. With a new coach it will be interesting to see if he has an immediate impact on the program. Corbin will be Corbin. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise. Although not loaded like years past, they will be solid fundamentally and be able to hit. Garmen does a great job and should have the Hounds in position to challenge late. The most interesting thing is this....summerball.....I saw Whitley play and they had basicly their whole team plus a three from other schools. Corbin had some players playing but they were on teams with many different players and they were not getting their players the games that they needed. I only saw a couple of Middlesboro, Bell and South Laurel kids playing, does it make a difference? I don't know but you would think that it does.
  18. Tommy is a friend of mine and althoug I think he has made some questionable moves, it in no way should take away from what he did while playing for Corbin High School. That is something you cannot change. He works at Bell County and while at the games, was to a certian extent representing Bell Co, so I see nothing wrong with wearing the jacket. As far as the replacement goes, you can go ahead and rule out Mr. Stewart, although a good elementary coach, rumors say that the committee is looking for someone with head coaching experience. I am still hearing the same two names over and over.....both would be good coaches. I just don't see Dudley leaving Bell right now............although he is not in the two I am hearing.
  19. Gosh I suppose the good folks at the elite schools can say what they want to but to say that is a level playing field? Well it is clear it is not!
  20. With the loss of Comperoni, Skip Freedy will have to play catcher, and although he is a good cather, he is a better pitcher. That throws everything around and they could struggle. They will be middle of the pack in the 13th.
  21. The 13th plays the 14th in the sectionals....I see no problem with that as several teams can compete and beat the best the 14th has to offer.
  22. I have rethought it and under no circumstances should the football field be named for Mike Campbell......one Campbell field is enough!!!!!! I just don't feel at this time it would be prudent to expose any possible canidates.....even if it is just a rumor, surely since Top Gun is so close to the program he could tell us what he is hearing, Heck I get all my rumors at Wal-Mart
  23. I think that this question has been answered about 40 dozen times.....it just was not the anwer you were looking for. Now no one will be goaded into a another discussion of something that as any good attorney in court would say: Objection your honor---asked and answered..........Sustained, ask another question.
