  1. Last week, my 4 year old's T ball game was cancelled 48 hours ahead of time due to heat. He is due to play tomorrow at noon. No cancellation yet. If they think I'm taking him out in it, they are nuts. The soccer league my 6 year old daughter played spring ball in still has me on their email list. I got an email today, that their games are on for tomorrow. One of the most foolish and ignorant things I've ever read. People are jsut stupid.
  2. I just stayed at a Hilton in SF, and loved the pillows so much that I looked at the tags and ordered one when I got home. I've had a hard time finding a pillow I really like since my old feather one crapped out about 5 years ago. It's called a Pacific Coast Down Around.
  3. I'll be at the Thursday and Saturday games. Really liking forward to it. My wife's 40 th bday present to me. We fly out this morning.
  4. I absolutely loved Adam Dunn. I hated all the bad press he got here. He was one of my favorite Reds. I just took a gander at this stats. His offensive stats are pretty darn impressive. Especially when you take into consideration, at his current rate, if he ends up with 550 AB's (and that is certainly within the realm of possibility), he's end up with 257 K's.
  5. BTW, for my kids, I send sunscreen to school, and sign a release waiver. So I'm covered.
  6. You can, yes. But let's be realistic. You are a teacher. You have 30 kids outside. It was a field day. Is this track and field? I'm not sure. How often am I that close to the kids. Did they go in for lunch? If so, did anyone notice? Did the student say they hurt, or were in pain? I teach HS, so I really wouldn't concern myself with the issue.
  7. If a student comes to my classroom with a sunburn, that's really none of my concern. Heck, I got sunburned as heck at East Fork Lake on Sunday. I don't consider myself negligent.
  8. Don't become a lawyer. You'll lose. Negligence is defined "that which a normal person would do in a similar situation". The teacher did what a normal, prudent person would do. They followed the policy. The mom knew the policy. If she was so darned concerned, or paying attention, and she knows her kid, she should have drove to the school and applied the sunscreen. You CAN NOT do this as a teacher. You will get fired.
  9. When common sense takes over the lawsuits that are filed, you can apply that in the public school workplace. Until then, as a teacher, you tread lightly.
  10. Haven't taught much have you? Give a kid medication = putting your job at risk. That's basic. First time a teacher slapped some sunscreen on a kid that had an ingredient the kid was allergic to, you'd be screaming.
  11. Well, he had until I can see him again to do me some good by getting rid of himself. The last thing I need is him scaring or biting one of my kids.
  12. Alright, I just saw a fairly large black snake go under my front porch. Anyone that comes and gets him, beer is on me. I'd rather deal with a lion than a snake.
  13. That's an amazing book. Hope you enjoy it.
  14. I've umpired and coached a bit, and don't regret one day giving it up. Especially when I read stories like this. It really is getting atrocious.
  15. We're at the Hilton on Union Square. Doing the Alcatraz tour, and planning on Muir Woods. Got tickets for the Reds on Thursday (ballpark tour that morning), and Sat. Doing the Alcatraz tour at night on Friday. Probably doing Muir Woods Friday morning. I believe, from what I've seen, we'll be taking the trolley darn near everywhere from Union Square.
  16. Wife is taking me to San Fran. is a few weeks to watch the Reds. It was my 40th birthday present from her. Neither of us have been west of the Rockies. I'm looking forward to some serious seafood. Then in the middle of July we are taking our 4 and 6 year old to Disneyworld, staying at one of the resorts. A great time will be had by all.
  17. I had it something awful. I tried the insoles, cortisone shots, and wearing that godawful boot at night they made me wear. Nothing worked. I finally had surgery. I went to Greg Worley, who is part of Northern KY. Foot Specialists on Boone Aire Road. He did a cryogenic procedure where they numbed my foot, cut 3 "slits" in it around where the pain was, and inserted this thing that looked like a wood burning tool (I watched the whole thing). They cryogenically froze my nerves, and after 12 hours, I had ZERO pain. I now treadmill walk and am getting into some running as well. It's been 3 years, and I've had zero problems. Both feet. I highly recommend it. Changed my life. If you google plantar fascitis cryogenic, you'll find some good articles on it. People have had excellent results, and it's relatively quick and easy. Every now and then, I see an athlete who is suffering from it, and I wonder why they don't just have the procedure.
  18. It's also insane to put your second best OBP batting 8th on a consistent basis. But that's Dusty............
  19. If you saw the new gradebook program the schools have been using for the last couple of year's you'd understand it. It's beyond ridiculous and complicated.
  20. This. Always takes 1-2 days to jump up in price. Then it take 3 months to fall.
  21. I'm reading the second book of a trilogy called The Clifton Chronicles bt Jeffrey Archer. If you have never read him and like a great story teller, I'd highly recommend him.
  22. I've had both, but I stuck with Directv when Dish lost the MLB Extra Innings package, and didn't carry the MLB Network. Now that I have the MLB TV through the internet, and Dish has the MLB channel, I could go back. I'm going to wait a few more months and see what happens with some of the programming.
