  1. What makes you think that Romney will outperform the President in the debates?
  2. Agreed, however there are worse things than a divided government IMO.
  3. I wonder if turnout was much higher for blacks in 08 versus earlier elections?
  4. I wonder when this Act was initially submitted? I would guess that it takes months for things like this to become passed as legislation. Would you be more accepting of it if it was proposed several months ago?
  5. CCH5432 was a poster I enjoyed reading. I have a feeling I'll be casting a vote for him sometime down the road and not even know it.... Also enjoy reading Habib and Hearsay.
  6. You said timing and intent were two key aspects of your concern with this issue. So is timing no longer an issue? I'm not trying to play gotcha. Just trying to understand your perspective on this.
  7. What dates could these laws be attempted to be implemented that you feel would not have negative intentions?
  8. I don't care if they release them or not. When they do, the only thing I even glance at is how much they donate as a percentage of income.
  9. Thumbs down. So during those 14 years that you were not paying taxes while I was, you are perfectly fine with that? You are just as much the problem as those who milk and play the welfare system. IMO.
  10. Fair enough. I don't see it as wasting my vote. My hope is that at some point in my lifetime that a true Libertarian candidate can be competitive and bring a 3rd party to prominence. The best way I can achieve this is by using my vote. I honestly do not anticipate a huge change in the direction of the country even if Gov. Romney wins in November. However, if a Libertarian candidate were to reside in the White House, and several members of congress were to get on board with these beliefs, then I could see this country taking the necessary steps to start shrinking the size of government, shrinking our influence abroad and in turn shrink our debt. This along with minimizing the government's role in our day to day lives could set the country on a path to succcss. IMO More and more of my liberal and conservative friends find themselves more and more in line with Libertarian beliefs. They just don't feel like they have a "real" (for lack of a better word) option to vote a candidate with those beliefs that has a chance to actually compete and win. Hopefully my vote and support for these candidates will help give us a chance to do that sometime down the road.
  11. Most high level coaches don't. I think it would be safe to assume that he will not be teaching any classes.
  12. Do we know what his official position will be other than Coach?
  13. That's the main reason I will vote for them, to increase the relevancy of a 3rd party. Clearly the 2 party system hasn't produced the results that most of us want.
  14. What hook up did he get in regard to position/job responsibilities?
  15. I'm voting "dean of left handed 2nd graders" or something along those lines
  16. I'm going to go out on a big limb here and guess that he probably isn't going to be teaching any classes.
  17. Unless they offer him a different position along with his coaching stipend to sweeten the deal. I would imagine that there are plenty of coaches out there making $75k plus that aren't teaching any classes or doing much more than coaching.
  18. That's the problem. This will likely just cruise on through to near full implementation (barring the SCOTUS stepping in) and the debt will continue to rise and rise. Very rarely is a program rescinded even when it proves to be much more expensive than planned. It's scary to think this is how our government sometimes operates.
  19. I wonder if this will get any coverage on the national news networks tonight?
  20. Agreed. That is why it is very important to check out the details of your plan before making a decision.
  21. You could always borrow the funds from your 401k if you need funds earlier. That way you avoid the penalty.
  22. This may vary from plan to plan, but in the single instance that I borrowed from my 401k, it was not a difficult process at all. It was merely a few clicks and within 7 days I had a check, no questions asked. I believe I paid a one time $75 fee and I paid myself a 4.25% interest rate over the term of the loan. While it has long been considered taboo to borrow from your 401k (and for some good reasons, like lost return on borrowed funds etc...), it worked out very well for my situation. You may want to check out the details of your specific plan, but I would much rather have my 12 months of expenses saved in a place where it has a chance to grow. JMO.
  23. I would save as much as you possibly can. FYI, most 401k programs allow you to borrow up to half of the total value (in case of emergencies) so I would put as much as you can into that account so that it can have a chance to grow. I would not have much more than 3-6 months of expenses in a liquid account. That's just what I would do. I wish you all the best in your investing.
  24. Delete. Should have read through thread first. My point had already been covered.
