There are three definitely getting serious D1 looks in our neck of the woods. Dakotah Euton - Rose Hill Sophomore - University of Kentucky Chad Jackson - Rose Hill Sophomore Jonathon Ferguson - Elliott County Junior I have names of some schools, but I don't feel privileged to release them at this time. There are a number of other young players in the 16th with D1 potential depending upon how hard they work and develop their games. There are many more getting NAIA, D2 and D3 attention.

I have to wonder if you've seen Flannery play in the past few months. He's about 6'2" and starting to muscle up nicely. There are few shooting guards in the state who can compare with his accuracy. I've watched this kid develop over the past five years, and IMO he has a very bright future. As for his present, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Flannery earning a starting position at Boone this season. :thumb:

I'll be there one way or the other, but if you can nail Nets with that deal Sister, you're one sharp dealer. Nets is slippery... :sssh:

Sounds like if you can teach him to spread out in the paint on the defensive end, pull down a few rebounds and throw a good outlet pass, you can let Hopkins and the guards rumble. Could be a fun season for you guys. :thumb: You may need to kick up Booster's activity a couple of notches just to feed that crew... :eek: :lol:

Robbie Stenzel from GRC is a stud in the making. He’s hardnosed, smart with good skills. Great family and basketball genetics in a solid community. Timmy Knipp from Elliott has good skills, and apparently found his grow button. Last I saw him he was a legit 6’ 5” and I hear he’s still growing. If he ever fills out, he’ll be a beast. Another good family, and basketball community. Neal Pawsat from Mason Co. is a determined scrapper, he can shoot but isn’t afraid to mix it up in the paint. His older brother played about four inches taller than his actual height last season for Mason. Good family and basketball community. Jordan Gilbert from Mason Co. has solid fundamentals all around and a good head for the game. Yet another good family in an All-American community. I have to wonder if Josh Hopkins is one of the 6‘ 5“ to 6‘ 7“ dunking freshman being mentioned in Corbin. He was 6’ 3” last I saw him a year ago. Great kid and family. Robbie Barber at the Hill has solid skills in every area of the game with great court vision. As a combo guard, his greatest asset may be his head for the game. He just passed 6 feet and may not top out for another four or five inches. Alex Malloy at the Hill has been hitting the weights and is getting ripped for a Frosh. Al is another versatile player capable of playing three positions. Marcellus Barksdale and Ryan Fucci from Tates Creek are both stars in the making. Otis Webb from Lexington is another amazing athlete. I'm sure I'll think of more, and there are lots of late bloomers who will come on strong between now and 2011 that could displace some of the names on this list. Until then, a coach could take these ten and compete well nationally. :thumb:

If I could clone my #1 freshman we'd be around 150... As it is, anything under 200 is a great day... sigh...

I'd take a four man nine hole score of 170 this season for sure... :thumb:

Back in the day, they discouraged playing golf and baseball at the same time. It was believed that the two swings conflicted with one another. As a result, I didn't get serious about golf until after college. My dad and granddad were both excellent golfers, and taught me most of what I know about the game. I got to a low single digit handicap in my late 20's, and then I had kids. The first thing to go was my short game consistency. :lol: :lol: :lol: I spent the next 15 years playing in scrambles, which is another rotten thing to do to your game. :lol: The great thing is my son's are both good golfers for their ages, and I now have a reason to get out and play more.

We can't compete with that... :eek:

Golf is one of the most "objective" sports for any coach. If a kid can shoot the score, he deserves to play, whether he's 12 or 18.

Not in actual matches or tournaments. I believe they are okay for practice rounds.

I don't know if KHSAA charges spectators at the State Tourney, but it would seem that more individuals, bringing more supporters would boost revenues. :thumb:

I think this is a great proposal. :thumb: There are many teams with only one or two truly competitive golfers who have little chance to advance as a team, or with limited individual opportunities.

I believe that boy could do anything he put his mind to. :thumb: Of course, the "rough" side probably wants to smack me for suggesting in public that any part of him is a "diamond" but I'll have to take that chance... :lol: :lol: :lol:

For the record, I didn't come up with the Issel comparison, Hoop Scoop editor Clark Francis is being quoted in the Courier-Journal and Herald-Leader as describing Euton's game "offensively like Dan Issel" after watching him play a game last December. I'm not saying that Euton will be UK's new all-time leading scorer, just that I don't think the comparison is out of the question. :thumb:

Dakotah's older brother Darryl Arbaugh played for Ashland, and has been named among the top 25 players of all-time in one of the most tradition rich H.S. programs in the state and nation. Darryl earned a full D-1 ride to Furman. I don't recall his playing height and weight, but he currently stands about 6' 7" or so, and weighs in at a muscular 280+. He was an outstanding post player, but looks like he would also make an outstanding NFL lineman or defensive end. :eek: I post all this to point out that Dakotah just turned 16. He's 6' 8" and a lean 220 lbs. He works his butt off, and will hit the weight bench hard for the next three years. At the very least, Coach G has secured himself a 6' 8" 240+ college freshman that will be benching around 300 lbs and able to post up SEC big boys, while at the same time being able to step out and knock down 25 footers. If he continues to grow, he could end up at 6' 10" with similar strength and weight numbers. Either way, you can count on Euton arriving ready to play and contribute right out of the gate. Give this kid time to mature over the next three years and I honestly don't think that comparisons to Issel will be out of the question over the next 4 to 7 years. :thumb:

I'm sure Patterson and Euton will be big buds soon, but the painful truth is that Euton never voiced much enthusiasm for UK until the arrival of Coach G. Until this year, Euton was more interested in NC, Florida and Duke than he was in UK. As they say out west... "Coach Gillespie is a real chili cooker.":thumb:

Considering the fact that Pat will be a senior when Euton is a Frosh, I doubt this had much if anything to do with his decision. The biggest factor for Euton as I understand it is Coach Gillespie.:thumb:

It's official... As of 9 am this (Monday) morning, Rose Hill sophomore to be Dakotah Euton has accepted a verbal offer from Coach Gillespie and the University of Kentucky to play basketball for the Wildcats. This is not a signing, which cannot take place until after his junior year of high school, but it is a significant step for a fine young man being able to wear the same team colors from high school through college. :thumb: I have no doubt that Dakotah will add some height, a lot of strength and quickness over the next three years of high school. He already shoots the lights out and will be a huge asset for Kentucky beginning with the 2010-2011 season. As hard as he's worked to get to this point, I fully expect to see that energy and effort increase as Dakotah works to become a player at the University of Kentucky. As much as I look forward to seeing him tip it up in Rupp as a Wildcat, I hope to enjoy him tipping it up in Rupp as a Rose Hill Royal a few times between now and then. Congratulations to mom Pam and dad Clay for a job well done! :thumb:
