Just to put this in perspective… according to the All A website, from 1990 through 2007 18 teams from the 16th Region participated in the All A State Tournament. Of these, 15 lost their opening round game and went home. Twice Raceland made it past the first round before losing in the second round… still a noteworthy achievement for the 16th Region. In 2003, Rose Hill made it all the way to the Finals for the Championship. Regardless of their record or ranking, Collegiate is a senior laden team out of the very competitive 7th Region. This was indeed a very ugly game, but a game Rose Hill found the right combination to win. Whether they win by 1 or 100, they are now one of only four 16th Region teams in 19 years to advance past the first round. Say what you will, that’s an accomplishment for our region. Regardless how they finish up, this is an invaluable experience for a very young team. I like RH's attitude though... they packed their bags to stay for four nights. :lol:

112 teams started out on this journey, 8 remain. It wasn't pretty, but it's all about surviving and advancing. Should be a good game tomorrow. :thumb:

If for no other reason than the sake of the boys on the Ashland team, I'd like to see them have a good showing. The Tomcats have some fine young men in their lineup. I'd like to see them keep it close. :thumb:

That's 9-10 from the line by the way... and 6-8 from 2pt range with good shot selection and completion with guys hanging all over him. What's your point Big Cat? You don't make some other kid look better by tearing down this 16 year-old.

If the Cats turn Thomas loose, and he has a big night they may keep it close. If the rest of the kids have a great game, Ashland may even win. Otherwise, East by a bunch.

Just for the record, I wasn't suggesting Jim Hick's was saying anything inappropriate... just that Fraley is pretty tame compared to a lot of coaches I've been around. I had about 8 roomates in four years of college, six of whom I haven't seen since then and for good reason. There's only one of the eight I can say I'd want reffing a ballgame for me... :lol: Bobby Hall does as good a job as any ref in the region... I'm impressed he went to college. :lol: FWIW, the folks at Bath County ran a good tournament. :thumb:

Morgan is an improved team, but Elliott will be ready to roll. EC might try to score 150.

I can't say whether or not, Fraley made the comment some say he did. To be honest, it doesn't sound out of character for him to talk a little playful smack in the heat of the battle. I can understand how someone who has never played the game or coached could be alarmed by such a comment, but to anyone who truly knows what goes on, on the floor, Fraley's chiding of Hicks was pretty mild. In fact, I think it's pretty funny... :lol: Fraley and Hicks worked together at Greenup County High School for years. They know one another very well, and from what I've seen, they seem to be on pretty friendly terms. Jim Hicks is a good coach and a fierce competitor. I doubt he was too torn up. If Fraley did say it, he was probably just confirming something Hicks suggested first anyway. :lol: This is truly an attempt to make a mountain out of a mole hill. At the very least no one has to worry about hearing Rose Hill's coach using profanity... :thumb:

Cute... but a backhanded shot at some very good kids that played their guts out. A review of the game tape shows a number of missed calls, including a total "sack" of RH's Chad Jackson in the backcourt in the final minute of the game. Why there weren't three officials on the floor for a championship game of this intensity I can't begin to understand. In over 30 years, I've yet to attend a closely contested 16th Region game where fans on either side were totally happy with the officiating... ever. Whatever your opinion on Refs, Coaches, School Administrators, a school's history, etc. it comes down to some truly outstanding young men that get hurt when adults take their frustrations out with bitter comments. This game was played so hard by both teams, it really is a shame that anybody had to go home with an "L" on their record.

Since we don't have a clue about a specific kid ( and I strongly recommend we keep him or her anonymous ) and that kid's specific circumstances, I will answer in general terms. ( I claim no expertise in this area, and therefore acknowledge that this is merely an opinion based upon observation and hopefully a tad of common sense... oh, and I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express this week too. ) I've seen dozens of kids over the years allowed to integrate with various programs in a variety of capacities, from team manager, ball boy, water boy, trainer, etc. I've seen grade school and middle school kids allowed to hang out at high school team practices. I've seen kids not yet in high school allowed to actually participate on a high school team. I've seen good kids with mental or physical handicaps allowed to be a part of teams. I know of no specific rule that would forbid the "sensible" inclusion of almost any child into a particular team's environment. I do however see "insurance" and "liability" issues that could arise if a certain "underage" (lower grade level) child is permitted to "play up" without the appropriate documentation and grants of permission. As long as all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed, it should be no big deal. That and $4.95 will get you an iced orange caramel frappucino at Starbucks. :lol:

It's not RH people that can't let go of Mayo. He would have graduated by now even if he'd stuck around anyway. Most of the kids currently playing varsity ball were at RH during Mayo's reign. They looked up to him, he was good to them. I doubt any of them feel slapped by being mentioned with him. He was a great ballplayer, and an even better person. It's all the RH bashers still carrying a grudge that he ever suited up at the Hill ( like any of their schools would have turned him away... :lol: ) that keep bringing him up. Elliott fans defend their kids and program... and should. RH should and will too. :thumb:
