  1. The teams that were 10-0 that didn't make the playoffs were at a time when only 4 teams made the playoffs. I am pretty certain since they move to 8 teams up through last year there isn't a single team that has gone undefeated and did not make the playoffs. However, it has clearly happened historically. -CardinalsFan
  2. That's like asking why didn't Edward Smith just heed the iceburg warnings and turn sooner? The OHSAA is a massive governing body. To make any change would take years of committee meetings and school buy-ins. Right now the focus has been on finding a better balance to the public/private issue. Also, there are historical conferences in the state that trump district/regions in KY. In OH, winning the Greater Catholic League-South is more important than making the playoffs. Just the way it is. -CardinalsFan
  3. No team has ever gone 10-0 and not made the playoffs. And since the playoffs moved to the Harbin system in the early 70's, you can count on one hand the number of one-loss teams that did not qualify. In 2009, Colerain went 8-2, swept their conference and did NOT make the playoffs. Very disappointing as we were scoreboard watching the final weekend. If just one of our defeated opponents had won one more game, we would have been in. -CardinalsFan
  4. Despite the score, Cincy St. Xavier completely dominated Cathedral. The Bombers unleashed over 300 yards rushing on Cathedral. Trinity's game plan should be the same. St. Xavier vs. Indy Cathedral Game Stats Good Luck Rocks! We need them harbins!! -CardinalsFan
  5. That is incorrect. The top 16 make the playoffs in 2 regions: North and South. It is a completely different than prior years. Region 2 (South) is made up of teams from Columbus South to the Ohio River. It obviously includes Dayton and Cincinnati. There are 37 teams in this region and again, the top 16 make the playoffs with the top 8 hosting a home game in round 1. The Regional "Final" will effectively be the State Semi-final. Below are the rankings through the first 4 weeks of the season. After week 10, the final rankings will be released and the 16-team tourny will begin in a 1 v 16, 2 v 15, 3 v 14, etc. format. 6. A nice little 10 minute highlight reel from the game including Kelvin Cook's 95 yard "XBox" run around the 5:58 mark. Week 3 Highlights - Colerain vs. Trinity Enjoy! -CardinalsFan
  7. Outside of Hubbard, Moeller's defense is slow and not very athletic. Not sure how fast/quick/athletic St. X's skill players are but if they can get the ball in space, they will have success against this defense. Now, stopping Moeller's offense is another challenge in and of itself but it too can be slowed down. This Moeller team is NOT as good as last year's State Title winning squad, IMO. Not yet anyway. They may be by the time the playoffs roll around but not yet. -CardinalsFan
  8. The jury is still very much out on the Crusaders. Outside of Pike, they really haven't played anyone worthy of judging their true skill level. The Tigers will be a better measurement. -CardinalsFan
  9. Back home in NKY! Wow, what a game. Will post more tomorrow once I've had a chance to get some sleep. A few tidbits. Marshall Stadium - What an absolutely beautiful facility! I mean, top-notch all the way around. The home pressbox has a bathroom built-in?! NICE!!! Trinity Crowd - they did their best to get in the game but it was difficult when their team was down 14-0 before some of them were even in their seats. Train - love it! Just love it! Bonnafon - glad he will not be on the team next year when Trinity travels to Colerain. Kid can seriously play. Cook - 3rd varsity game, 266 yards rushing, 589 yards on the year...WOW! More tomorrow. Got to get to bed. -CardinalsFan
  10. I am hopeful that Mr. Lampley will provide me one upon my arrival. Leaving in 40 minutes to head south. Going to be an AWESOME NIGHT OF FOOTBALL, regardless of the outcome. -CardinalsFan
  11. Is there no where online I can get a roster with numbers/ht/weight/class?? -CardinalsFan
  12. I broadcast for WeAreColerain.com. -CardinalsFan
  13. THIS is how you respond to a post. I like it. I like it a lot! Thanks for the insight. Will be very helpful during our broadcast. I hope it's a great game for both sides. I am fully in the camp that either team is fully capable of winning this game. In fact, I can say with certainty that Trinity is the favorite on their home field. Football is built around routine and Friday's routine is going to be all screwed up for the Cardinals on Friday as they are off school and they will be on a bus for 2+ hours before they play. That may not seem like a lot to Trinity fans but for Colerain, they NEVER travel this far to play a game. It will make a difference. Anything for me? -CardinalsFan
  14. Can we get a little football discussion going in this thread? There are clearly some very knowledgeable Trinity folks on here, I would love to hear your take on the following as we are about 31 hours from kickoff. What are Trinity's strengths offensively? Defensively? What are Trinity's weaknesses offensively? Defensively? Who are the names to watch other than the QB? What about the SO linebacker Coach Bolden spoke of? And the RB? What caused the offense to sputter last week? Is 4-star healthy? Let's break this down a bit. -CardinalsFan
  15. The game will be carried live on WeAreColerain.com and the Rocks radio network. If you are in the Louisville area and can physically be there, I would highly recommend that option. -CardinalsFan
  16. More insight from the Colerain side of the river. Below is a link to the WeAreColerain.com Coach's Show which takes place every week at Barnesburg Tavern near the high school. Football players and the Head Coach join the show every week for some Q&A and fun banter back and forth. If you fast-forward to roughly the 40 minute mark, Colerain Head Coach Tom Bolden starts to breakdown the game vs. Trinity as well as other topics. Interesting to find out that Bolden refers to Coach Coverdale as a friend. WeAreColerain.com Coach's Show - Week 3 Enjoy! -CardinalsFan
  17. Once you get to I-71 South, wherever you are starting from, here are the directions I'll be using: Merge onto I-71 S toward Louisville. 8. Merge onto I-264 W via EXIT 5 on the left toward Watterson Expressway. (go 2.85 miles) 9. Take the US-60/Shelbyville Road/I-64 exit, EXIT 20, toward St Matthews/Lexington/Louisville/Middletown. (go 0.31 miles) 10. Merge onto Shelbyville Rd/US-60-TRUCK W via EXIT 20B toward St Matthews. (go 1.87 miles) 11. 4011 SHELBYVILLE RD is on the right. - Your destination is just past N Sherrin Ave - If you reach Fairfax Ave you've gone a little too far Any smartphone with Google Maps will also help you along the way. -CardinalsFan
  18. For those that would like to get a look at the Cardinals in advance of Friday's game vs. Trinity. You can click on the link below and watch the the most recent game vs. St. Xavier. WeAreColerain.com Homepage Enjoy! -CardinalsFan
  19. Thanks THSRocks. Great stuff. The stats are very helpful. Do you know why the Lawrence Central game isn't loaded yet? -CardinalsFan
  20. This is great stuff guys. I appreciate all the feedback. Clearly, it's statewide pride that will be backing the Rocks on Friday night. Keep the comments coming! -CardinalsFan
  21. I'm curious. We have a very interesting matchup about to happen on Friday night when the Cardinals of Colerain (OH) travel to Louisville to battle Private School power Trinity. This game has all the contradictions you could ask for: OH vs. KY Private vs. Public Triple Option vs. Air Attack So my question is this. If you are not a fan of either school, who do you WANT to see win? If you are a fan of Manual or Male or Simon Kenton, is there a piece of you that wants to see Colerain beat Trinity badly on their home turf? Or, is your loyalty to KY over OH stronger than your distaste for private school and how they go about "building" their enrollment? If you are a St. X or, well I guess that would be it, fan, do you want to see Trinity triumph over the public school invaders from across the river? Don't just vote. State your reasons why you voted the way you did. This is a sociological discussion. Not a football one. -CardinalsFan
  22. Hmmm...Interesting comments. The Triple is an "oddball offensive scheme?" I wonder if the likes of Seattle, Washington and San Francisco feel the same way about their QB's running the option in the NFL? It's not traditional, but it is effective. Like Novocain, it takes a couple of quarters to settle in but once it does, big things can happen. Your sarcasm aimed at Detuan Smith-Moore is palpable. Just wait. You'll see. Or maybe you won't. It all depends on how the defense decides to play him. In week 1 he had 223 yards and 2 TD's. Last week, 25 yards and a TD. It's the beauty of the triple! Please don't ever compare the makeup of Moeller's enrollment vs. Colerain's. Night and day different. Think Trinity vs. Male. I appreciate you following up on the trivia. Would love to know the answer. I will also ask this: Where can I get the YTD stats for the team? I am shocked that a school with the alumni and resources that Trinity has does not possess an athletics website with stats, schedules, photos, videos, etc. Especially since they have an official statistician. Your help is appreciated. -CardinalsFan
  23. It was convenient. We were happy to sign a home and home with the Rocks and greatly look forward to welcoming them to Colerain next year. I hope it becomes an annual game for us. I mean, we will be the considerable underdogs in most games but we play that role well. Just like Friday, we are coming off an emotional win over St. Xavier and traveling to the house of a team that is 1-2 and looking for a win in the worst way. I am hopeful we can provide the Rocks a solid contest and sincerely hope we can just keep it close. -CardinalsFan
