The Purples blitzed the Dragons with a ruthless 31-0 first qtr to win 51-6. SR RB Lavance Anderson ran for a TD and passed for another. Actually, Hunter Gary booted both of Grayson Co's PATs, and RB Dustin Peak scored on the one yd run on Grayson Co's second TD. The local paper said that Tyreon Clark's interception was returned for 53 yards, but the school PA system said a 60 yd return. Either way, he scored!

It was too close for our tastes in the first half. Have to hand it to the Cougars though...they were a plucky bunch, but just simply had too many players playing on both sides of the ball. Their cupcake schedule lulled us to sleep! The only score in the first qtr came when JR RB Tevin Anderson scored on a two yd plunge. SR K Zach Williams booted the PAT, and BGHS led 7-0 with 8:04 left in the first. Grayson Co scored on the first play in the second qtr on a two yd run by Aaron Deviney (11:55). Jacob Clemons scored the PAT, and the score was knotted at 7-all. BGHS's "instant offense" scored again when SR DB Tyreon "Mookie" Clark returned an interception 60 yds for a score at the 9:43 mark. Z. Williams booted the PAT, and BGHS led 14-7. Grayson Co scored on a one yd run (don't know who scored it) with 6:14 left before halftime. Clemons scored the PAT, and the score was knotted again at 14-all. With 1:32 left in the first half, SO QB Scooter Hollis connected with T. Anderson on a five yd TD pass, and the Purples went to the locker room with a small 21-14 lead after Z. Williams connected on his third PAT. There was only one score in the third qtr. T. Anderson bowled over from one yd out at the 3:59 mark. Z. Williams connected on the PAT, and BGHS led 28-14 going into the fourth qtr. In the fourth qtr, the Purples sealed the deal. With 9:23 left in the game, SR WR Wes Cole caught an eight yd scoring strike from JR QB Chandler Sears. Z. Williams booted the PAT, and BGHS led 35-14. The last score came when SR RB Lavance Anderson snagged a 13 yd pass from Hollis at the 7:07 mark. Z. Williams booted the PAT, and BGHS led until the final horn 42-14. In 5A District Two, the Purples are now tied with Warren Central for the district lead at 1-0 each. Grayson Co falls to 1-1, and Barren Co is in the basement at 0-2. The Purples have an open date next week for Fall Break, then return to action 16 October in Louisville against Doss. On 23 October is Senior Night at Donaldson Stadium/Beard Field, as the Purples and the Dragons hook up for the annual Backyard Brawl in what should decide the district winner. BGHS finishes up the regular season in Glasgow on 30 October against Barren Co. Grayson Co has the first loss on their season and is now 6-1. :clap:

Man, it'll be absolute carnage out west in the 5A Region One title chase!! And don't forget...we've already played Christian Co and Owensboro. We will probably have to play both, and they're both old WKC rivals. It takes physical and mental punishment just to win out west! I just hope that the winner will have enough gas left to be able to take on John Hardin and whoever comes out of the east (most likely Highlands, from what I saw on the DVR tonight and knowing that the team Highlands beat 12-7 blew out Trinity by 30 the week before!!). Also, Highlands has never been beaten in a championship game by a team that didn't have a perfect record (Henderson City, 1959; Caldwell Co, 1963; Hopkinsville, 1966; BGHS, 1995; and Boyle Co, 2003). But I'm getting way ahead of myself...more fish to fry before then! But thanx for your observation, you're absolutely right!:thumb: We do have a better passing attack than what we showed tonight. Trinity's DBs did a super job of covering our receivers all night. I'm not going to single out anybody, but according to our announcers on the radio, two sure TD passes were simply dropped. I'm sure that will be addressed in practice this week! But you're right...it has been a very competitive series thus far. The guys have sure acquitted themselves quite well in this series, as well as the two classic games we had with St Xavier. They can't help but make the Purples a better team and one better prepared for the 5A playoffs!:thumb:

BGHS OLB Alfred Gilbert came up huge against Trinity with two or three QB sacks and at least one fumble caused!

I applaud the efforts of the Bishop kid as well...he didn't score, but he was huge in allowing Trinity to wear out the defensive players for the Purples. But it was to the Purples' big time credit that they didn't allow one single TD on the night! :clap:

Purples will host Grayson Co next week in their district opener, followed by their open date for fall break.

Purples defense played their hearts off with several stands in Purple territory. Three FGs by Nick Robertson spelled the difference in this one. Hats off to the Shamrocks for a tough, hard fought win! :thumb:

It's been the story of two defenses! It is 6-0 Trinity on two second qtr FGs by Nick Roberson (32 yds @ 8:06, 24 yds @ 0:06). That was after two valiant Purple goal line stands. SR OLB Alfred Gilbert has been the defensive star for BGHS so far with two QB sacks! Defensively, the Big Green defensive line has dominated, and BGHS has not had much luck moving the ball. Outstanding game so far!! :clap::thumb:

Trinity leads the series 3-0. I was a sophomore in 1974 when we lost to the Shamrocks 26-0 in our Homecoming. We didn't play again until that incredible game two years ago at Marshall Stadium. We hosted them last year, and that ended a 22 game win streak at Donaldson Stadium/Beard Field for the Purples. Remember, this is from BGHS's Official Football Historian. BGHS is on an emotional high after that amazing game against Owensboro last week (26-21). We still trail that series 38-27-2, and the consensus on both sides feel that we will meet again, most likely in the 5A Region One Championship at the Dungeon. But this game was one of the greatest games in that long series. The Purple camp feels like they are ready for Trinity...it has been a great week of practices. The Purples can score from any place on the field. The defense has already chalked up three TDs and two Safeties. Special teams are vastly improved over the last few seasons. You can't concentrate on one facet of the game on defense because they can still beat you through the air. Knowing all of this, I look for a tight game that could go to the last play of the game. I think that the Purples win a tight one and get the first win over Trinity. Like the Owensboro game, both sides would have to be congratulated on another great game! Good luck to both sides...wish I could be there tonight, but the prospect of rain precludes me from using my motorized wheelchair...the rain would short out the control panel on it.

This was an outstanding game!! When I said that this one was going to be an old fashioned WKC gut check, I was dead on! Neither team deserved to lose this one. It was actually two games. There was a bunch of scoring in the first half, but only one field goal in the second half! And I've never seen two old bitter rivals get along so well, both on the field and in the crowd...it was a marvelous display of sportsmanship, and I was very proud of that! It was very befitting of a #2 playing a #3, and both sides are convinced that we will meet again in the playoffs! OHS opened the scoring when Quado Douglas scored on a two yd run. Ross Gilliam hit the PAT, and the Red Devils led 7-0 at 7:06 in the first qtr. SO QB Scooter Hollis led a very methodical drive downfield to answer the score and Hollis ended the drive with a one yd plunge of his own. Zach Williams added the PAT, and the score was tied at 3:51 left in the first qtr. Nine seconds into the second qtr, Douglas ripped off and impressive 48 yd run for a score. Gilliam hit the PAT, and the Red Devils led 14-7. SR RB Lavance Anderson capped another impressive drive with a two yd run with 10:13 left in the second qtr. Z. Williams booted the PAT, and the Purples once again tied the game 14-all. With 8:25 left in the second, L. Anderson cut loose on a 53 yd scoring run! However, Z. Williams' PAT hit one of the uprights and bounced back no good. The Purples led 20-14. OHS answered back with a drive ended with a 16 yd pass play from QB Kal Prince to WR Ryan Bowling with 4:14 left in the first half. Gilliam hit the PAT again, and the Red Devils led 21-20. With 17 seconds left before halftime, Z. Williams kicked a 45 yd FG, and the Purples led at the end of the first half 23-21.:clap: The second half was quite a different ballgame, as only three pts were scored. Both defenses buckled down and made superlative plays! The only points came off the toe of Z. Williams once again. After getting a chip shot of 21 yds blocked, he calmly came in and booted a 31 yd FG with 4:57 left in the game. Final score: BGHS 26, OHS 21. OHS almost reclaimed the lead, but a 51 yd FG attempt by Gilliam had enough distance, but was wide. Whew!! They never gave up, very much to their credit. If the postseason game will be half as exciting, I don't know if we, the fans, can stand it!!:lol: BGHS will travel up I-65 next week for a return trip to Marshall Stadium to take on Trinity. You can bank on the Purples not letting Trinity's 1-3 mark lull them to sleep, and that their full attention will be on the Rocks next week!! I would personally love to be at the game where the Purples get their first win over Trinity after three losses and keep their record spotless (now at 5-0)! Alma Mater still trails the series with OHS, but the guys cut the margin down a little tonight to 38-27-2. This series started on Armistice Day (Veterans Day) 1932. Told you it was an old rivalry!! One more note: this was Kevin Wallace's 190th win in his career as a Head Coach. He had 45 wins at Warren East, and now has 145 at BGHS. He's now knocking on the door at 200 career wins...and it couldn't happen to a greater guy and personal friend! With that, I will take a cue from Devils58, a great friend from the OHS camp, and twist my butt off in tribute to a great game between two old rivals, not just for the guys, but for the guys in black and red as well.
