  1. Curious, when was the last time two teams from the same district played each other in the regional finals? Should be another good game but would expect the same outcome as the district finals.
  2. Montgomery Co. has a lot of tools but seeing that Clark Co. has beaten them twice already this season and the last game by double digits, I would have to give Clark Co. the nod for winning the region. But as we know, anything could happen at this point.
  3. Hopefully you're right because that would give Brossart a great chance of being in the finals because they would only have to beat Bracken Co. to get there.
  4. and as it always seems to happen - Nell comes walking out of the "port-o-let" smelling like a rose. Should be a walk-through to the finals for Boone.
  5. and needless to say - if Moss doesn't transfer to Boone, Boone most likely wouldn't have even been in the district finals.
  6. Wide open? Not sure if that is exactly true. I see Penleton Co. and Nicholas Co. losing in the first round regardless of whom they play. That district is the weakest it's ever been, so who ever plays them will move on to the semi-s. Unfortunately, a winner of one of three districts will have to play Montogomery Co. in the first round - that will be a tough task. But I have to agree that there are six teams who have a legitimate shot at winning the region. A lot will depend on the draws they get. Mason Co. has a slight advantage because it's on their home court. But, on paper, it appears as Clark Co. would have the be the early one favorite after man-handling Montogomery Co.
  7. They do draw for the regional - a district champion plays a district runner-up and both must be in opposite brackets. And yes they also draw for the All 'A' Regional (at least in the 9th they do). But draw for the All 'A' State? Ahh, not to start anything too controversal, but I have strong doubts whether this is done or not. I know one thing for sure - it is NOT drawn publicly, like the Sweet 16. It is "drawn" behind closed doors with a committee. If you go back and look at the "draws" of the tournaments, it seems rather ironic how it is arranged. And if it is not a blind draw, I don't have a big problem with that either because it is a non-sanctioned KHSAA tournement so the tournament committee can set it up anyway they want just like any other tournament. Just food for thought.
  8. cannot personally comment on whether Fookes had a hand in getting Moss to Boone but more than one of her past players have told me how Fookes invited "certain implact players" from other schools to attend "functions" with some of her players and mysteriously those players wound up transferring to Boone. To say that Fookes has never recruited any players from other schools is like the ostrich sticking its head in the proverable sand and stating like Sgt. Schultz in Hogen's Hero's - "I see nothing, I see nothing." Yes, Fookes has a good program but having impact players from other schools transferring in doesn't really show what kind of program it would be without those tranfers. Case in point, "What kind of team would Boone have without Moss?" Still a good team, but not likely to be much of a threat to win the region. Opposing coaches are just sick of the "I never had anything to do with it" mentality. They are not ostriches!!!
  9. when was the last season when Boone DIDN'T get some sort of transfer in? Sure there will be another transfer to Boone next season. Heaven forbid we would break tradition at Boone.
  10. Seriously? They would rather go into the district finals and get their brains beat in and then play in the regional and get the same thing done again? What good does that do for your program? Just so you can "brag" about being district runner-up. Sorry, no way can I agree with your reasoning.
  11. never understood why the state didn't step in and make it mandatory to have seeding. Imagine if they just had a blind draw for the NCAA tournament or any of the college conference tournaments. It's just a shame that one good team will not play in the regional AND that another team will get a bye in the first round of the regional. Isn't their district the only district that doesn't seed? And I would guess they never will as long as Bellevue, Newport, and Dayton continue to block seeding.
  12. might as well write this in the book even though there's one quarter to go (NCC up by 18 pts): "Newport Central Catholic brings home the championship trophy" Ron Dawn - the only coach to win a All 'A' Classic state title in both boys and girls.
  13. 1st quarter in the books - NCC -14 Lou. Holy Cross - 4 (with only 1 basket) NCC continues to cause BIG problems with their full court press, scoring most their pts. off of Holy Cross' turnovers. If Holy Cross doesn't handle the press, this game could essentially be over by half-time. Half-time: NCC up by 14 pts. with Theim hitting a three with only 5 seconds on the clock. Looks like NCC will bring home the big trophy - the first for a ninth region team and only the second one for a northern Ky. girls team.
  14. I see NCC coming out on top of this one. just too tough for Holy Cross? Has a northern Ky. girls team ever won the All 'A' State? I know NCC has been in the finals before but not sure if they won it. Guess I should check the All 'A' history on the website, but too lazy
  15. Have to agree with you completely 1734. The only justice I can remember is when a Highlands player as a junior has her team win the region and then the following year she transferred to Boone. Boone was heavily favored that year and Highlands played them in the finals and beat them. Now, THERE was a little bit of justice.
  16. Don't know the draws or the seeding at this point but I would expect Montgomery Co. and Clark Co. out of that district, Mason Co., St. Pat's or Bracken Co. out of the other district, Brossart, Campbell, or Scott out of the other district, and it doesn't matter who comes out of the 4th district because all the teams are weak but likely Harrison Co. and Pendleton Co. Regardless, at least two quality teams will not be moving on to the regional. And whomever gets hot in the tournament is the team to beat. It could be any of 6 teams.
  17. But didn't she play in the Conner system while in grade school and play some high school basketball for Conner while in grade school? At least that's what someone told me, but they could have been wrong. And how good would Boone Co. be if they didn't get the transfer from Ryle. Do you think the Moss girl helps their program out a little? Sure, Boone would still be good, but much more down the poll than what they are now. And as far as transfers to Boone over the years - I know two from Ryle, one from Holy Cross, one from Highlands, one from Dixie Heights, one from Simon Kenton, one from Beechwood, . . . . . need I go on? Enough said, I'm done with this. My viewpoint is that it is not fair to the program from which the athlete left nor to teams that have to played a trumped up team of transfers. But it will continue because nothing has changed in 25 years since Fookes has been there. And thanks GFYBS for your comments - I have to agree with them 100%. It's a shame that a dedicated player in a program gets sideswiped by someone coming in from another school to take away her thunder, but as I mention before -- "Win at all costs."
  18. Deal with it? Oh, I can deal with it because it doesn't affect me one way or another, but I don't have to agree with it. The KHSAA has those transfer rules in place so things like that don't happen. The only problem is they very very seldom adhere to their own rules, so athletes transferring will only get worse and worse. Is it fair to those schools that lose those athletes - ahhh, no! Do they have to deal with it? The question is, "Do they really have a choice?" The bottom line is - "Win at all costs!" If it means getting transfers in, then so be it. Since the KHSAA is not going to police their own policies, why not just have an open transfer rule so everyone has an equal chance?
  19. i get your point - I believe a person once told me that Coach Fookes has only won ONE regional without a transfer on the team. I know she's has many more than any other school; maybe even up to double figures by now. At the end of the season, the question always comes up - "What transfer will Boone get next season?"
  20. i don't see anyone being with 20 pts of St. Pat's. I don't know this whole history of the ALL 'A' but I know St. Pat's has been in the finals before - several times I think, but have they ever won it? Guess I should check the all a site to see. anyway, even though i have not seen them play, they appear to be heads above the rest in this tournament.
  21. Much improved? Didn't they win 9 or 10 games last year? This year they really have only one win (two if you want to count the forfeit). Maybe you're seeing more than others, but I'm not sure the program is on the upswing. JMO
  22. so I guess that means SG wins their second game of the season?
  23. Gee Mustang, you seem to know it all! You must be closely associated with the Brossart community. As far as Kues goes, he had one off year after 5 senior starters graduated. But then went on the following year to win the district ( I think they beat Campbell) and upset Harrison Co. in the first round of the regional. Burnt out? I thought he did a pretty good job with only one senior and one junior on that team. But there will always be people like you who give little credit where credit is due. A good friend of mine told me that it wasn't so much the players that were not happy, but some parents who thought their daughters where much better players than they actually were. But I was told those were few and far between. Most of the parents my friend has spoken to were pretty happy with his coaching. I guess it's just a matter of who you want to believe. But he no longer coaches there, so why not concentrate on the new coach? And those who live in glass houses should not be throwing stones.
  24. Both the St. Henry and Brossart programs dropped off considerably after he left and I would suspect the same will happen at Silver Grove, so I would think that would explain whether he was a good coach or not. Although I guess he could have been just lucky to win over 400 games and average 20 wins a season for 20 seasons. I am assuming most bad coaches have those stats too. Must have been just all the talent he had and no coaching skill!
