Newport travels to Lexington Friday night to try their luck against the defending state champions.

Paris was up 21-6 at half. Newport shut the Greyhounds out in the second half and clawed back for the W. Great game.

It was a last minute schedule change. Newport was originally going to play Walton Verona, but there was a schedule conflict and Taylor had an opening.

Taylor County makes the long drive to NKY to face off against the Wildcats of Newport.

Newport will probably kick deep. They did last week against Ludlow and they have a pretty good kicker. He has the potential to kick it to the end zone on most kickoffs. I think Newport's defense will surprise people, they are well coached and physical. Lloyd is a good team and I agree they will be tested more tonight then they were with NCC. I think it will be a better match up than people expect. Should be a good game in my mind!

Bracken has a pretty solid team. Bracken is in for a great season in my opinion.

Ludlow is tough and well coached. Could be slug fest between these two river city schools!

The Newport Wildcats travel to Ludlow to face the Panthers this Friday. Predictions? I have Newport by a couple of scores in this one.

Newport looked really good in the first half. The o-line was getting the job done upfront for the wildcats. Newport will make another run in the playoffs again this season.

Dayton is still pretty young, but some tough nose kids. Holy cross will probably be up a few scores. It's nice that Dayton gets to use the new rug tonight.

I know Coach Herbst at Dayton wanted to start this. It's very common in California and I've heard a coach from there at a clinic talking about it. It's a great idea if ran right.

I think this is a great idea. It works out for the coaching staff now, and for anybody the school would bring in. If you bring in somebody new, it is going to be rough for them in the first year. If you go the interim route, then it makes it easier for the players considering they already know the coach and there won't be a lot of change for the most part. If the interim works out then it's a home run. If you decide at the end of the season you want to bring somebody new in, then you will have a lot of coaches to select from if it's one of the first jobs posted.

With the job opening up so late, are there any names who come to mind? Or, do they hire within and go the interim route? Is there anybody currently on staff who could fill in as interim?

As far as I know, he is currently not playing.
