2025 Newport Wildcats

Featured Replies

Newport graduates their starting QB, who had over 2000 yards passing last year, and they also graduate their #1 & #3 rushers and their #1 & #3 receivers.

They still have a solid receiving corps returning - assuming all of their players will be back - with Kendall Buck-Barber, Keegan Farrell, and Kayveion Sharp all moving into their senior years. Last season Buck-Barber had 27 receptions for 400 yards (14.8 yards per catch) and 7 TDs, Farrell had 30 receptions for 344 yards (11.5 yards per catch) and 4 TDs, and Sharp had 26 receptions for 320 yards (12.3 yards per catch) and 4 TDs.

I don't have a whole lot of insight about the team, but looking at the 2024 roster, they only had 6 total seniors on the team and only one senior on the line, so that bodes well for things at the line of scrimmage in 2025. The offense last year was almost exactly 66.66% pass and 33.33% run. They return their #2 running back Ayden Stachel as a senior; he had 53 carries for 294 yards (5.5 yards per carry) and 4 TDs last year.

Finding a new QB1 is going to be the obvious job-one for Coach Wiggins and staff this offseason.

I don't think Farrell is at Newport anymore. I was told they lost a big WR/TE named Keegan, I would assume it's Keegan Farrell.

Would be cool if Amonte Lowe played this year. I think he could slide right in to that QB1 spot. I know he played receiver his freshman year but he was a QB his whole youth career. I know youth QB to high school QB doesn't always translate but something tells me he is more than capable.

Looks like you're right. Farrell's Twitter account shows him at Lloyd now.

Didn't know that's where he landed. Evans picked up a big bodied target with that one there.

They do return a lot on the o-line with two upcoming sophomores who got a lot of varsity time on the o-line in close games. They return a lot of players with the exception of Farrell who did transfer to Lloyd after the football season. Losing Kyle Lee at QB will be the biggest question mark for the wildcats, but whoever takes over will have a lot of weapons to work with.

There has been an update to the Wildcat's schedule. Walton Verona will be playing Boone County 9/5. The Newport Wildcats will be traveling to Taylor County to take on the Cardinals. A big challenge for the wildcats! More details to come. More than likely Newport will travel down this year, but not everything is finalized.

Do you or does anyone have access to an updated schedule graphic?

I do not have an updated one yet. I will have one as soon as possible.

Love me some Columbo!

Same!

Any idea who their QB might be? I heard it was looking like Amonte Lowe was going to play this year.

As far as I know, he is currently not playing.
