New Colonel

The consistency in ruling who is and is not eligible is the problem. How many transfers are playing at some of the top teams in KY at the moment? There's some high profile ones in NKY that's for sure.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Cooper win with a running clock. Hopefully the Colonels got some things figured out over the past 2 weeks and got some much needed confidence. However, I think the Jags are too much on both sides of the ball.

3-3 Cooper travels to Dixie to take on the 2-4 Colonels for the 2nd week of District play. Dixie is coming off winning 2 in a row, something that was unheard of when they started 0-4. Cooper starts off the season in a disappointing fashion after just coming up short in the state title game last year. Each team is led by BIG arm QBs. Will this one be a barn burner, with each team lighting up the scoreboard, or will someone's defense be able to hold the other's offense in check?

Cov Cath has had the best I've seen this year so far. They did a real nice job gettin to the next level, and did an even better job on the "chip" blocks before climbing to the LBs. Give me smaller OL and Dl all day long. Too many guys are simply too big, they cannot move. Those Johnson Central clips above are the type of linemen I love. Chip on their shoulder, move well as a unit, and have attitude. Great job down there!!! Unless you are an absolute physical specimen..... the 1% of the 1%, there is really no need for a high schooler to be 300+ lbs. Have them drop some significant weight and better their game and their bodies. If they have the height and the frame, they'll still play college. College is when they turn into Monsters with full time supervision with nutrition and training programs.

They need a new captain to steer the ship to get it actually on track.

Dixie does have a solid Freshmen class of football players. They play the game hard and take coaching well. Turkeyfoot's 8th graders are more talented IMO, but they are not as coacheable and very undisciplined. Dixie has dudes in the pipeline, that's for sure. Hoping the Freshmen can keep winning. I will say that Highlands Freshmen team is really, really good.

The 1-4 Colonels travel a couple exits east on I-275 to take on the 2-2 Eagles of Scott. Who wins this epic showdown to stay out of the basement of Kenton County?

It quite literally would do both things you claim it won't. A bad 6A team falls to 5A or 4A where they can compete for maybe 5 or so wins. Same with powers at lower levels moving up. It helps balance things out. The only exceptions would be the top of 6A, and the bottom of 1A. And if your team is constantly bottom of 1A under a relegation model, you should drop from district play until you get it together. If you are still perennial top dogs in 6A, then good for you for truly being the best of the best.

Cali, Texas, Florida and Georgia have big time high school football. The others, not so much. And those states have great top schools, then the drop-off is very STEEP. I chose New York to point out that population doesn't equal football prowess. KY could increase their football prowess by making systemic changes, but they probably will not.

In Ohio, 336 out of the 713 schools will make the post season playoffs. 48 teams per division make it. So, 47% make it. This was expanded around the time of COVID, from only 32 teams per division making it, which was less than 1/3 of the teams making the post season. Since the expansion and the watering down of the playoffs in Ohio, the level of play has decreased across the board. In Kentucky, almost everyone makes it. Out of the 222 total teams, 190 or so make the post season. At that point, why not just allow everyone in? I mean we already get numerous 0 win teams in the playoffs each year. The point I'm making is, when the regular season matters and wins matter, the level of play increases, and increases dramatically. KHSAA should go 1 of 2 directions. 1. Let everyone in the playoffs, because heck we are just about there. OR 2. Get rid of at least 2 divisions and make the regular season actually matter and increase the level of play across the state. Qualifying for the playoffs should mean something special. Allowing almost 90% of your teams into the playoffs makes the playoffs meaningless.

That's a fair point, but with fewer divisions, you get more teams in closer geographic regions. Everything is too watered down right now. There's a reason why Ohio in particular is better overall in football. While Ohio is more watered down than it used to be with regards to playoffs, the system encourages them to play competitive teams. It also rewards winning with trips to the playoffs. The more you raise the level of competition across the board, the better the overall product will be.

So, it's punishment to move up? I thought if you were a dominant team, you would want a challenge..... not to keep beating up on "Little Sisters of the Poor" type schools 70-0 in the playoffs. If you are really that good, you should want to move up. Beechwood is a great example. They can definitely hang with 3-A, and they'd honestly be fine with most 4-A teams. And getting rewarded for being bad? How do you get rewarded? Some schools, regardless of enrollment, just aren't and probably won't ever be good at football. So, because of their school's enrollment, they should keep getting obliterated each week..... and then possibly make the playoffs at 0-10 depending on their district? Right now, the system rewards bad football by having so many losing teams make the playoffs each year. It makes zero sense to be against relegation unless you support a team that dominates a lower division and are scared of moving up and playing real competition. This should be about competition. As a team, a coach, and program, you should want to compete. Relegation gives you optimum competition. Nobody wants to watch a 60+ point drumming in the playoffs. Nobody wants to see losing teams make the playoffs. Quit rewarding mediocrity.

So, when you look at how ridiculously watered down Kentucky Playoffs are, you will see across all divisions, around a third of the teams have a losing record. That's a system that is clearly broken.

Ohio has 7 divisions FYI. Kentucky has entirely too many divisions. It should honestly be 3 based on sheer numbers, but 4 would be best due to vast school size disparities in Kentucky. I also love the idea of relegation. Now, something that would also help would be a version of Ohio's competitive balance. Essentially, anyone that is on your team that lives outside the geographical boundaries of your school, gets added to your count for classification purposes. So your school may be 2a based on the actual numbers, but since you have a ton of open enrollment kids on your team, those kids get added based on a formula and you are playing 4a now. The current system is a joke. No team with a losing record should be in the playoffs. It's makes the regular season essentially meaningless.

I expect Dixie to win. Hopefully, they prove me right.

Gotta go with Elder. Every year they are one of the best coached teams, period. Their offense is an absolute nightmare to prepare for. They don't get fancy with their plays, but they will absolutely overwhelm you with formations, trying to exploit a mismatch somewhere. Many of thr formations look the same to the casual observer, but they'll switch the X and Y or the Z and H back....things like that. They also love to shift. If your defensive communication isn't on point, it'll be a long night.

As I said in the Dixie thread earlier this year, this is a 3 win team. Hopefully, they beat Henry Clay, Scott, and Boone County.

I agree wholeheartedly. My experience last year with a kid on TFMS 7th grade team was overall positive. This year it's also a train wreck. They could all go too.

The results have been like this for the 3 years I've been watching against any team that isn't absolutely terrible.

They have to after this season. If they don't, they obviously don't care whatsoever about the football product they are putting out on the field. Absolutely embarrassing.

Lol, I thought so but I wasn't sure. People hated on his offense at Dixie..... pretty sure it works just fine.
