I hate that we’re going turf after the last home

Considering that every level of our football programs from JFL to varsity play on the field it looks good even after getting hit with frost. The sideline drains for field seem to not be working so from numbers to sidelines may be muddy and slick. SK is a good looking team with speed to match up with Ashland probably the fastest team we’ve faced all season. I will say this Chad is running a modified base defense don’t know why but unless he changes up SK will win this hands down.

Didn’t expect Ashland to be so flat on defense against JC. Don’t look at them to do it again here but not sure how this young Ashland team will respond after last week. JC played almost flawless game and Ashland had 2 mental lapses and JC took full advantage of them. Not seen Simon-Kenton on film but being 6A school should poses a stiff test again this week and with game here at Putnam Stadium and the crowd gets loud maybe Ashland responds for the win but a close one would give SK a chance in the 4th quarter. I still call this a young team but they got seniors on the O and D lines but they’ve played freshman on defense all season at corners and in the backfield on offense. The core group of Ashland is all juniors with a few sophomores to go with the freshman. They’ve been a work in progress on defense all season while on offense they’ve been solid and have taken what defenses have thrown at them and even in JC loss they found pay dirt on all but one possession at end of first half. I look for a great game between these 2 Friday night.

Congrats to JC they played the game I thought they would and Ashland made the two mistakes on the on sides kick to start second half and going for 2 instead of a tied game.

If JC takes the air out of the ball and turns into a 3-4 possession each half it’ll be a great game. Being Ashland grad would love to see them get the win but if JC keeps the ball out of Straders hands enough they could win a close one.

The offense is solid this year the defense is still a work in progress. BC pushed them around like a rag doll in the first half and it was the first time this season they trailed at the half and truly had the defense not dug their heels in the red zone and forcing 3 or 4 turnovers on downs the could’ve been in a huge hole. So I know Chad and company were giving those young men props for keeping them in the game at the half. Then the third quarter is a quarter that BC would like to forget. Strader coming in and going off on the BC secondary for 3 TD passes and 237 yards in the third quarter alone. Strader came in because Houston had dislocated a finger on his throwing hand late in the second quarter plus they wanted Strader to come in at some point to get reps in live game to knock off the rust from missing 3 games. The defense after halftime shut down BC. Sorry I rambled a bit but I’m an Ashland grad maybe just a lil biased towards them lol.

Ashland 63-7 Ashland took Greenup Co outback of the wood shed and scored on every position until victory formation. Greenup had no answer for Ashland’s speed. The defense even managed to score.

As much as would love to see Raceland pull this one out I think they lose by 10.

Houston would’ve been starting QB at almost any other school around EKY. With LaBryant in his corner to help him out Ashland should be ok maybe not as explosive in passing game but with the 2 freshman stepping up helping Jennings running the ball. They can explode in the running game on any given play.

My hands are tied with regards to updating LaByant’s injury as Jane and Jason don’t want anything posted on FB or other social media. I will say not sure if it’s his throwing shoulder or not but collarbone isn’t broken as first thought but rehab is expected to be 4-8 weeks and that’s all I can say for now.

Ashland 45-24 final

Final. Ashland has paid a heavy price for the win tonight. Early 3rd qt Strader suffered a hit to collarbone area and came off the field asked his mom to take him to the hospital. He’s the kind of kid that plays thru pain so figured it’s bad. Early report from his mom to my former MIL is at very least he’s got bad bruise but his mom(doctor by the way) thinks it’s broken but not sure if it’s throwing arm side or not

Ashland’s skill guys are juniors and sophomores but the O line is the question after this season but there’s some good kids coming up and have gotten some playing time in the first 3 games. They may lose a game before district play starts but could easily run the table even with the JC game in Paintsville. They’ve not leaned on Jennings like they did a year ago especially with the freshman Thomas stepping up this year(both sides of the ball too). Friday night will really tell if Ashland is getting where they should be. I think Ashland is pretty much where they should be ranking wise.
