Tomcats Try To Extend Run Of Futility For Archrival

Records: Ashland (7-0) | Boyd County (3-3)

BGP Rankings: Ashland (#5 in 4A)

Week 7 Results: Ashland beat Rowan County | Boyd County beat Greenup County

Series History: Ashland leads 43-16 all-time

Preview: Boyd County last beat Ashland in 2003, giving the Lions three wins in a five year span in the series.

It's doubtful anyone in Cannonsburg that night thought the rivalry would play out the way it has in the subsequent two decades, but the fire that rages between these two on the hardwood has begun to translate to the gridiron the last two years.

Boyd County put a fright into the Tomcats in 2021 and battled to a competitive loss last year.

Ashland is in fine form at the moment, unbeaten and largely untested in recent weeks.

Boyd County rolled Greenup County last week to bounce back from a trouncing at the hands of Johnson Central. JC ran it down the Lions' throat, as did Bell County earlier this year.

That doesn't bode well for a defense preparing for this version of Ashland. Running the ball has been the Tomcats' forte since losing quarterback LaBryant Strader a few weeks back. They've averaged over 400 yards per game on the ground at an incredible clip of 15 per carry.
