On our end, I though Pitzer played better than what his stats showed. His arm is a little more live than I expected and I thought he was accurate on short and medium routes (I counted at minimum 3 drops tonight). Really high ceiling for him if he can keep developing. We need to get more explosive plays offensively. It’s tough to put together 10-12 play drives at any level, let alone high school, to go score TD’s. Pitzer just missed Benke and Boydston a couple times on deep posts and we need those to a hit a couple of those if we’re going to beat Highlands and Ryle. Last thought is Preston Agee is such a good high school player. He plays so hard on both sides of the ball and was the reason we won last night.

Honestly an awesome win for us. To come from down 14-0 in the second half and battle through OT to pull this off showed a lot of grit and leadership from our team. I wasn’t sure we had that in us. Cooper is a good team and they play hard, are well coached and have 2 really good backs. A lot of juice in the backfield with White and Tye. Those guys are tough to deal with.

CovCath 17-7. I still think we’re pretty good defensively at full strength. Assuming Cooper doesn’t have a Drew Ramsey or Cam Hergott level player, I think we come out on top.

A lot of really good posts here. I don't think the sky is falling, but a couple thoughts on my end: 1. I think the talent is certainly down at the skill positions compared to 16-19, with the line play being equal to slightly better. Having said that, I really like some of our receivers, but haven't been able to take advantage of it. I think Agee and Zion are very good high school players. Benke being out is frustrating since I think he's capable of being an awesome player with his size and movement skills. Wilson, Sullivan and Rodriguez at TE will all be college players at some level. Zion and Benke are back next year and a freshman receiver, Oliver Link, looks like he's going to be a big time player for us. Unfortunately though, when the best athlete in the class quits the team in 2 out of 3 classes (Stava and Dieruf) that's going to have a major negative impact at the skill positions. That can't keep happening. 2. To be blunt, we haven't gotten the production needed from the QB and RB position the last 2 years to truly compete. That's not to say those guys are bad players, but as an example, most KY offenses would love to have Reid Hummel on their team. However, if he's your #1 back, you're likely going to struggle against teams you need to beat to go deep into the playoffs. If he's getting 10 touches a game on screens, routes out of the backfield to get him on linebackers, jet sweeps, outside runs, etc, he's going to be a very productive player for you. If you're having to rely on him as your lead back, and run single back power and iso and ask him to lead block on QB runs, that's not his game. Unfortunately, we haven't seen another back step up and be the lead guy to have Reid slot in as a very good #2 that he should be. 3. I thought Caleb struggled last year because his game isn't built to have the offense run through him, but we had to do it since our backs weren't good enough. For example, if he is in a run first offense where he can go off play action and push the ball vertically down the field with his big arm, that's where he's at his best. When you're asking him to get a bunch of completions in a row to move the ball and then have him be your main runner, that's not his game. He wasn't consistent enough in his mechanics or his reads to play on time to move the ball like that. This year, Holtz just isn't a QB. We've tried it, but I don't see it and I don't think he has any confidence either. The most frustrating thing to me is he hasn't even been much of a threat running either with how athletic he is. He's way more athletic than Caleb, but hasn't been close to as effective as a runner. It's too bad because I think our defense is very good at full strength when we aren't playing an elite high school player like Hergott. 4. My opinion is that we are really well coached and think we've adjusted to our talent. We are fundamentally sound and I like the schemes that we run. It's a watered down version of a college offense, which is ideal if you're playing guys both ways. You don't want them thinking too much and just get your best guys out there. I also think we gameplan well with called shots. There have been some comments about going more 2 TE sets and running the ball, in a vacuum, yes, I agree. However, when Wilson and Sullivan are playing every snap on defense, that's really tough to do for them on offense most of the game. Rodriguez at TE, while very athletic and has a fantastic frame, is a year in the weight room away from being able to push guys around in the run game and we don't have the QB play now to take advantage of his ability as a receiver.

I agree 100%. I wonder if tonight is enough to give Pitzer a look. Who knows if he’s ready to play.

Beechwood was the better team. They have some nice players, but Hergott was the clear difference in the game. Bigger, faster, stronger. I don’t think this is on the coaches. When one player significantly the best player on the field, especially at QB, you’re almost certainly going to win. We are relatively basic on offense, but these are mostly college concepts. We also want to water down the playbook since we do play guys both ways and can’t throw too much at them from both sides of the ball. Offensively, we just don’t have much margin for error. If we get behind the sticks on first down, we struggle since we aren’t effective throwing the ball. We got some movement in the run game and had some success, but we’re not able to generate many explosive plays. Good for BW, they have a very nice team. We better focus back up since Cooper won’t be a pushover next week.

Key to the game on offense is staying ahead of the chains. If we’re consistently in 2nd and 3rd and long, it’s going to be a tough night. We need to play complimentary football and get into a lot of 3rd and 4th and shorts and convert to keep BW’s offense off the field and drain the clock. If we win, the score is going to be in the low 20’s. If the game script gets into the 30’s I have a hard time seeing us get the W.

The key on defense to the game. Trevor Wilson needs to play his A game and we need to push the pocket to make Cam uncomfortable. I think our secondary is much improved from what they saw last year.

Was finally able to watch the Elder game on the CCH season pass. Very, very impressive win. #4 Oliver Link jumps off the screen at receiver. Tall, athletic and great ball skills. I know we have some guys coming back at outside receiver, but I’m not sure he’s going to be watching many varsity offensive snaps next year. I also saw at least 3 lineman that look like future contributors, including Mason Dietz at center. Hopefully we can keep stringing together wins and developing these guys.

Not a comment on the game or your team and no idea if he gets cleared, but I thought Giesler would have been starting at RB this year if he stayed at CCH. He’s going to be a really nice player for you guys the next couple years.

I’m pretty sure the difference was Aiden Jones. When you get a 6’3 probably 235-240lb linebacker back who’s, at minimum, a high end FCS player, it’s a big deal. He covers up a lot. I would echo the comments on the secondary, much improved from last year. Agee is such a ballhawk back there. He made a couple plays on the sideline that were very very nice, including his pick.

Couple thoughts: 1: Aiden Jones back makes a big difference defensively. I thought he stood out tonight along with Agee again and Dietz was getting after it in the run game up front. The 2 guys in the middle (AJ and Sullivan) make it difficult to run against for most teams. 2. We did just enough offensively. We still struggle to consistently throw the ball, but Holtz did have a couple nice balls tonight. We’re not going to be good enough on this side of the ball to put up a lot of points, so we’re going to have to win these types of games. Moving forward, Agee just has to get the ball more, he’s the best player with the ball in his hands on the team. 3. I think Dixie is a good team. Like someone else mentioned, they look physically mature and have some really good top end players. #8 Rice is going to be a handful the next few years. Big time player already as a soph. I liked their top receiver too. A really nice win for us and a big time performance by the defense.

They are big and muscular at pretty much every position. They are not missing time in the weight room.

Disappointing. I think he’s a really good player and someone we need on the outside if Agee is the QB.

I think Agee’s been our best player so far this year by a good margin. Hopefully, we can get some more diversity in the QB run game as opposed to just running power and iso. With his athleticism, we should be able to do some fun and creative stuff. This is a very loseable game again, but hopefully having a full complement of our best players for the first time this year should put us over the top. If we get anything from the passing game, and we should with receives like Benke and Zion, there’s no reason we shouldn’t put up a good number of points. Defensively, getting Jones back should be a big boost. He’s a really good player at inside linebacker.

Based on the SK score last week, I would be surprised if we lost to Highlands.

Negatives would be we just really struggle to throw the football. It’s going to be tough to win games against good teams when you’re one dimensional on offense. We’ve got 2 good teams coming up the next 2 weeks, so there’s not a ton of time to figure it out. The other negative was being gassed and not tackling in the last 6 minutes of the game on defense. I thought we played well up until that point but you do all that conditioning work for a reason. Not to be cliche, but you need to play a full 4 quarters to beat good teams. LC just gashed us that last half of the 4th and that was with their best player (#8) out.

A couple of positives: 1. I thought Preston Agee played a great game. Such an explosive athlete, not sure on the stats, but he was at QB the 2nd half and is a big time playmaker with the ball in his hands. Not sure what we’re doing at the position moving forward, but he needs to have the most touches every game from our skill guys. On his 80 yard TD he was shot out of a cannon. 2. Zion Mason is as good of a corner as we’ve had at CCH for a while now. His pick 6 was an incredible play. He’s a dynamite player with special movement skills, I can’t imagine too many teams will throw his way moving forward. 3. I thought we were really able to generate some movement on the LOS running the ball. This is especially so with when we go 2 TE sets with Wilson and Sullivan. I also thought we played pretty well on defense the first 3.5 quarters and gang tackled well.

Ouch is an accurate description. I thought we were the better team by a decent margin the first 3.5 quarters and then just ran out of gas. Credit to the LC players and staff, they kept fighting and deserved the W.

It’s definitely going to be a challenge, but I think we’re better in the secondary this year than last year. Wirth and Sandfoss are a year older plus you add Zion, Agee and Miller (who I think is a good varsity player right now as a soph). I also think we’re well coached at that position, so I’m anticipating a better showing than last year.

1. This is a very loseable game, so we better come ready to play. I'm expecting a close game throughout, but think we pull it out because I'm a homer. 2. Is the QB from Lex Cath back from last year? If I remember correctly, he should be a pretty nice player for them this year if he is. 3. Like some of the posters mentioned above, I feel really solid defensively. Jones and Sullivan are just 2 big dudes playing inside linebacker for us and it's tough to run between the tackles on those guys. I didn't watch the Belfry game, but loved the way those 2 competed vs Elder. Our secondary is also better this year, so I feel better about limiting LC's passing game. 4. Offensively, are we going to be able to generate explosive plays? I think a Belfry poster brought up needing to get the ball to Agee in space more and I 100% agree. He's been the best guy with the ball in his hands and we need to feature him. Hopefully Zion is back ready to roll this week because we need him. 5. Finally, I think it's a revenge game for the offensive staff. One of probably 2 games the last few years I can remember where I thought Eviston got out-coached on this side of the ball (the 18 State Final being the other). LC played more man coverage in the game last year than any HS team I can remember and we didn't really run any man beaters and we had worse athletes outside. Tough to throw the ball when that's the case. Are we going to do that this Friday? If not, it's up to Zion and Agee to win on the outside, which they are more than capable of.

Agreed on all fronts. Very loseable games the next 3 weeks, so we need to come ready to play. I think we’ll be able to piece together a running game with Holtz’s athleticism and piece together a passing game with Eviston’s play calling (I think he’s an A+ HS OC) along with the full compliment of receivers and their run after catch ability. My concern is not having a difference maker at QB or RB (not that we won’t win a lot of games with the current guys) when we play really talented teams, like the current top 3. I think the rest of the roster is good enough.

I think we’ll end up being slightly better than last year, but would be very surprised if we won the whole thing. #4 is probably spot on.
