I didn't see enough from NewCath to see explosive capabilities yet. That's why they need this to be a grind and not a track meet. They are replacing a TON of production. Their lines are light years ahead of where they were at this time last year. I'm not smart enough to know how they compare to Cooper and Dixie.

It was bizarre. CovCath usually has an above average to very good kicker. Losing that Sophomore was a big blow. You gotta think the snaps will be taken care of over this week.

Their identity will be the ground game, whether out of that split back look w/ the two tackles on one side, or out of the Pistol. They have gone overbalanced a lot to take advantage of their size. They have two good backs and the QB can really run. Their line, however, hasn't been what I thought it would be w/ that experience. Both Cooper and Dixie won that battle. The QB is doing what he can, but he's going to be streaky. NewCath has to limit them to 4 or less plays over 20 yards. Make them win grinding. They have home run hitters, but do they have the ability to sustain drives? Both teams come into this one w/ a lot of questions to answer offensively.

Shells all week. Dale Mueller was the first coach that I knew of up here that would have his guys practice in shells for an entire week depending on the opponent. I was always jealous of that as we were beating each other up on Tuesday and Wednesdays. How the times have changed.

Conner and LexCath Not sure what they saw in Assumption v Mercy that made them confident in Mercy beating NDA....but whatever. Volleyball seems, out of ALL OF THE SPORTS I'VE BEEN AROUND, to have have the most good 'ole boy award network.

Assumption SMOKES Mercy twice last weekend, but Mercy is better than NDA? Get out of here with that. Beechwood at 25 is crazy as well.

I watched the Hudl. St. Henry walked their two OLBs down and rushed them off the edge almost every play. I'd have to think in a real game that hot reads would have seen the slot receiver get the ball right over top of their heads. They looked ahead of where they were at this point last year. Just get through the next two Fridays healthy.

B, unfortunately, passed away 5 years ago this coming October. This game raises money for the ALS research charity he started with his wife.

Looks like a future NFL MVP can whiff on blocks like the rest of us, lol.

The physicality of that team will be tough to beat. Their smallest OLineman/TE was List at 245 plus. Their fullback was over 230. Wulfeck was at least 215. In the pre-field turf era, they were steamrollers. They beat the crap out of Highlands (yes, in a scrimmage) AND beat the AAA champ CovCath in their rivalry game. They destroyed the GCL North champ with List having to play QB w/ Estep out. They held OSU commit Richard Hall to 76 yards. Harrodsburg had the USA Today National Defensive player of the year and an Ohio State signee in Yeast. They were a mere speed bump. We played Highlands and Beechwood that year in the regular season. Highlands had the weapons, and Jared could fire it. Beechwood took our souls.

I'm a lifelong friend of one of the owners, so I'm biased. I will say that they have done what they have been able to do while being responsible financially. I think often times, memories make things seem better than they were in the past and hamper our appreciation of the present. Colonel Pomp's Bar is a great addition, emphasizing the outside for Bocce leagues and music is great. The food is very good. The cost to get ingredients, the cost of making the food, AND keeping the quality at a specific price point is a delicate dance. I love going there.

From the outside looking in, this will be a transition year in more ways than one. Bivens covered up a lot of cracks for last year's offense. The offensive line was suspect with Sandfoss out. Hopefully, the extra year maturity allowed the line to become more athletic. That's my major area of concern. I know that Will Meyer was thrown into a VERY difficult position as a Freshman having to start both ways. He handled that extremely well and grew so much over the course of the year that you forgot how old he really was. IF the line can fill in around him, I'll feel very good about the potential of the team. They will have a rough start to the season as players mature, but I think that this may be one of those teams, like the '99 team, where the jump in improvement from Week 1 to the postseason will be night and day. Look out for Sophomore Buck Welch at RB. He plays with an edge, but if he can keep his cool, he's going to be a big weapon.

A Kuhnhein at DB just doesn’t seem natural, lol. Usually they are mauling people in the trenches.

He and Broekhoft (sp?) together were scary. Both could break it any time.

I forgot about Brian getting the X job. Toughness and an edge is very apt. I worked with him a couple times a summer while we were all in college. Some guys you know are tough just by the energy they carry.

I probably should say Stadium, not facility as it only has one field. If you like NKU's field, you will like Highlands. Coaches offices, weight room, 7 lane track, brick facade, tons of stands. Then there is parking, which is something that was always at a premium when my sons played there.

Best complex for soccer in Kentucky. There isn't a close second.

For what NewCath is trying to do, Terry Brown is above anyone else. Rash is walking back into a taylor made position. I admittedly don't know much about Mercer or Christian. I do know that NewCath just graduated a class of THIRTY-TWO students and was on death's door. There were 11 players on the middle school team in 2024. Since then, the school's administration's dogged push to improve the school and facilities has begun to yield fruit. For the first time in history, they had a separate 7th grade team. This Freshman class has over 90 students. The stadium opens. The renaissance began 2 years ago and is now set to pick up steam. Getting the PERFECT hire to guide the football program to match the momentum of the school was paramount. NewCath got that. I don't believe the record will reflect this this year. I'm concerned about their lines. 2027 and beyond, I look for NewCath to be back to where it was at the beginning of the century.
