  1. It's an honor to be tabbed to be another thread starter. I'll do my best to try and continue the winning ways for y'all. The Reds begin a two game series in Mexico against the Cardinals tomorrow night. The games are played in Mexico, but are scheduled as home games for Cincinnati. It is about as pivotal of an early season series as you can have. Come out at least .500 and you feel pretty good given what series against the Cardinals have been like recently. Go in and get swept and everyone leaves thinking the 3 games against the Marlins were nothing more than beating an inept franchise. My prediction, the Reds split the series.
  2. I thought that comparison was very neat. Likely more because it gives hope than anything. Both team were 1-8 after 9 games. '95 team won their 10th game 13-0 and this team won theirs 14-0.
  3. Let's not forget that Peraza struck out to end the inning. If we're gonna bash hitters, share the love.
  4. Sonny Gray out after 4 solid innings. Has to be related to the comebacker off the ankle. Hope he's alright.
  5. Anyone know where to find some kind of baserunning metric? I feel the Reds have to be pretty low in that department.
  6. Sonny Gray (0-2, 2.89 ERA, 7 SO) vs Pablo Lopez (1-1, 6.10 ERA, 12 SO)
  7. Last nights win was big. Outlast the starting pitcher, who struggled initially, but ended up VERY dialed in. Get the bullpen and win it. I think Sonny Gray is solid today and they get the sweep.
  8. Tyler Mahle (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 5 SO) vs Trevor Richards (0-1, 3.00 ERA, 11 SO) Hope the Reds can tack on one or two early. Richards is good at missing bats once he gets rolling. I do think Mahle will keep them in it though. Let's go Redlegs!
  9. Puig out tonight and tomorrow, David Bell also out tonight.
  10. Votto leading all Reds hitters in average at .226. I know it's early, but yikes.
  11. Tonight on the bump: Luis Castillo (0-1, 1.42 ERA, 17 SO) vs Jose Urena (0-2, 10.38 ERA, 6 SO) Reds have got to come out and beat Urena early. He's struggled mightily so far. You don't beat him and go into tomorrow facing Richards on a 9 game skid and we may very well be looking at a 10 game skid on the get away day.
  12. Anyone have any details on this one? Seems shocking given the start the Camels have had.
  13. I would rank them in this order, as I think all are important. 1) Relational Head Coach 2) Talent 3) X/O's 4) Feeder programs/Community 6) Facilities/Financial support I believe you cannot win consistently without talent, but if you have a ton of talent and no player desire to win for a coach then you will fall short. Also, a coach that builds great chemistry can overcome being a little short on the talent side. X's and O's are very important as you can be extremely talented, but if you cannot put players in the right places to perform at their best based on their skill set you are not going to win. Opposite can be said about less talented players being put in the right places via game planning, etc. I tie feeder programs and community together as I feel any quality feeder program you find is going to be tied into a tight community. Facilities and financial support are tied directly together.

  15. Figured I'd try my hand at starting a thread, and see if I can't change the luck for the old Redlegs. My prediction is the little scuffle yesterday, seeing a manager go to bat for a player, and Puig's fire is the spark they needed. They will win 2 of 3 in this series, winning the first two and dropping the get away game.

  17. I have no idea and have no dog in the fight, but baseball is a weird game, especially early in the season. I think the year they lost in the title game they lost to Brossart and another tiny school later in the season (can't remember who, but it was a bad loss). Given their recent success I'd give it another week at least before hitting the panic button.
  18. I don't think the issue causing the implode will be those two not getting along. I just think it's going to all melt down. Developing too many divas as a whole, with a diva head coach and a team that still isn't even sure where they will play their games.
  19. I just hope that this gets rid of the over the top approach that has made Scott Boras so well known.
