I agree. PT and Mayfield both have a ways to go to get to where they wanna be. The exciting part is that they will find out all about each other very soon.

Graves’ line on both sides of the ball whipped up on Mayfields pretty good at times, especially in the first half.

Mayfield is also without one of their better players due to his mother sitting him out for disciplinary reasons.

Some people say Mayfields stadium is a ticking time bomb. It is 70 years old. They have made a few slight updates but just cosmetic stuff, nothing structural. I would hate to see it go but if it’s a safety issue then it’s something that has to be addressed at some point. There will be a 5,000+ people there on Friday.

I’m guessing he’s talking about Hoptown but I wouldn’t call them a slouch by any means.

Honestly I would put them at 5th. I think the top 4 are ahead of the rest of the pack. One of their transfers is a 6’6” 290 lb. OL that’s been offered by Ole Miss, Michigan State and Kentucky. The other transfer is WR/RB/DB that has been offered by Georgia, Florida State, Michigan, Clemson, you name it. They both came from the same high school in Tennessee. Martels Carter is the Athlete and Jarvis Strickland is the OL. These two kids could really impact this team. We don’t see players like that in West KY very often.

The past few years Paducah has definitely had Mayfields number in middle school football. With that being said, the 6th grade class at Mayfield is loaded so hopefully they get a chance to play in the statewide playoff these next few years.

Tilghman can easily be a top 5 team in 4A this year, especially with the two big transfers they picked up this summer out of Tennessee.

Do you know why neither of those schools participated in the statewide middle school playoffs?

Not enough kids to have a team of strictly freshmen so they just do JV with their freshmen and sophomores.

I know Mayfield hasn’t fielded a freshman team in many years.

I’ve never seen any McCracken supporters on here to be honest. Some schools just don’t have any representation on here. Murray being another one that comes to mind. Not very many people from West KY on here period and 90% of those are from Mayfield.

Who are the teams around the state that have a chance to win it all? Mayfield 6th grade is loaded and should come out of the West. Just wondering who else is really good around the state.

I agree with everything you said. They are not a bad program at all. I just keep looking forward to them having another breakout year but it’s tough to go deep into the playoffs in 5A with limited talent. I will say they always play a decent schedule out of district to get them ready for the likes of Owensboro and other big dogs if they make a deep playoff run.

I think Graves should and will try to control the clock but I just don’t see them staying within 4 TDs unless Mayfield turns the ball over multiple times. I am curious to see what kind of year Graves has though. Would be nice to see another team from West KY have a good year other than Mayfield and Tilghman. McCracken has really slid downhill these past few years. Would also like to see them get back on track.

I do love their system as the season progresses but these preseason rankings are pretty far off. Central Hardin and Henderson are both way too high just to name a couple. Mayfield is definitely a top 25 team in the state. And I would say LCA is too.

Henderson was a very solid team last year but from everything I’ve heard and read they lost a ton to graduation and are supposed to be down this year. It’s unfortunate because Mayfield is headed there this year and it would’ve been nice to see them against a good 6A opponent. Just a year too late I suppose.

I rescind my comment about Corbin. I didn’t realize they had that much of their offensive firepower returning from last year and just saw they also added a few good transfers. They should be pretty stout once again.

I really wish Boyle could play 6A this season to see how they would fare and if they really could bring home a title in the top class. And I haven’t heard much about Corbin. Are they really that good?
