Pretty impressive stats......but....Gilliam is a nice pitcher at best. I've seen him throw on numerous occasions and he has at best an above average fast ball for High School. Doubt seriously you'll see 90+. He's more of a consistent 84-85 pitcher with a good curve ball. He'll make a nice addition to a Mid level D1 (OVC) at best. I wish him nothing but the best.

Who does David Blandford call for this position?

I'd like to see this match up. Just cant see anyone dominating the game the way Apollo will play.

Word on the street is that Hines is leaving Owensboro Catholic for Henderson Co. He is meeting with his team today after school.

I was at the game Friday and Apollo kicked OC in the mouth early. Peyton Peters has completely solidified his spot as a 1st Team All State receiver. If the Louisville, Lex, and Northern Kentucky sports writers watch this kid play 1 game, it would be hard pressed to find a better route runner and sure handed player as this one. He's a High School version of Wes Welker.

Apollo is clearly the front runner this year in 3rd Region. Eagles get a big boost to their back court with the return of Hayden Shelton, who IMO is clearly the front runner for 3rd Region POY and should be 1st team All State when its all said and done. They return Nathan Boyle and Alex Gray who both will compete with Shelton for POY honors. I don't see anybody competing seriously with these veteran Eagles. They should run through the 9th District pretty easily. I might be a little biased, but I just don't see any competition here.

Watch out for the Aces in this Region. Heard the Hayden kid has been playing on a bad ankle for several weeks. Once healthy, he can get back to mid season strength. Nice combination with Marshall on the inside.

I'm an Apollo guy first. But, I have to say hats off to DC and Neil Hayden. Great game plan. Steve Barker flat out got "out coached" in every facet of this game. Never adjusted to what was thrown at him.....But, beware 3rd Region. EAGLES will be back in force next year. Have all the tools to be 3rd Region Champions with IMO 2 1st team All-State candidates in Alex Gray and Nathan Boyle. Not a better combination in the state!!! Come out and see for yourself.

Look for Apollo High School to march their way through the 9th District AND 3rd Region in 2016-2017 all the way to Rupp Arena. I felt strongly that Alex Gray was completely left off All District and All Region team last year as a Sophomore. He should easily be considered the POY for this upcoming season, but, will have close competition from sharp shooting Hayden Shelton who's gaining quite a bit attention from summer AAU and many D1 schools. Apollo will will have the strongest back court in Shelton and Zach Hopewell. Look for Alex Gray to dominate locally in the middle against District and Region competition. You'll see decent bench support from Guard Tabor Shadowen and good shooting from Nathan Boyle. I don't see a serious threat for Apollo. Catholic hurt by Graduation as well as Daviess County. Owensboro High has a chance to be good but are a terrible match up against the players from Apollo. I see Apollo as too athletic for the local teams, as I've seen them play numerous times. Look for a banner season coming up.

Word on the street keeps coming up Kevin Ferguson from Daviess County as a replacement. One of the brightest up and coming coaches in the 3rd Region. This would be a great hire for Ohio Co.

Huge congrats to Eagle Nation, and rightly so, with O Catholic heading All 9th District Team for 2016. O Catholic placed 4, with AHS placing 3. Owensboro had 1 and Daviess only had 2. I was at the game last night and Daviess Co looked anything but a solid contender with 7 errors, yet, scored 12 runs off 2 very young pitchers. DC did go undefeated against tough 9th District competition this, I'll give them that. But, when all said and done, Mantooth is supreme as he has for years and Apollo WILL walk through the Region and WIN State in 2016!! Write it down!! Sorry you feel slighted on your 2 player selection, but, as anybody has followed 9th District baseball, Bob Mantooth is KING. Always has, always will.

Agree with your list. But, you are missing Hayden Shelton at Apollo High School. Top sharpshooter in 3rd Region. I hear the Hayden kid at Catholic is solid as well. Only Sophomore to make All 3rd Region. Nice size 6'4" player and coached by Tim Riley.
