For the Old Timer Mayfield Fans
Idon'tknow replied to UK fball fan's topic in KY Football (High School)
There was a star running back that graduated in 1952. He held all the rushing and TD records at Mayfield for three decades. He was recruited by none other than legendary coach Bear Bryant to play for UK, and received a full ride. He was slated to play as a freshman for the Bear. But, He got homesick for his gal, and went back to Mayfield and got married. Heck of a RB. I'm talking about Otis Cannonball Elliott, who in my mind is the best RB ever at Mayfield. -
Question for anyone that has seen Pikeville play

Went from 62-8 to 6-30. Best 1A team in the state! -
Question for anyone that has seen Pikeville play
Idon'tknow replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
You're just saying that because 2014 Pikeville beat Belfry. I don't consider getting beat 30-6, laying an egg. Sounds more like a good old-fashioned spanking. I think 2014 Mayfield could beat any Belfry team that ever played. -
Mayfield has to be licking their chops, right?

Yes, Mr. Guru, we are licking our chops. We would be foaming at the mouth if Danville had won. -

I'm kind of slow, Mr. Guru. Translation? -

The mayfield OC game reminded me a whole lot of the first desales CAL game. Wayyyy to many mistakes on OC's part and that was by far the deciding factor. As far as this speed that keeps being mentioned, mayfield is know where near as fast as fern creek, butler, ballard, or fairdale. Just a few thoughts. Glad to have gotten to watch both games. The CAL/DS game on Friday night was over in the first quarter, and a penalty and turnover decided the outcome. DS was up 7-0, CAL returned the kickoff for a TD, called back for penalty. The very next play, pick 6 by DS, 14-0. DS broke their will. I can guarantee one thing, you won't break the Cardinals' spirit. They have played from behind in 6 games this year. You better be prepared for a battle, and you better bring it on every down for 48 minutes. OC has an offense that makes DS offense look like something from the 1940's. DS has been shutout TWICE this year. DS will be lucky to score against Mayfield. Speed is a killer weapon on the gridiron, but only if you know how to utilize its potential. I will let you compare Mayfield's past success on the field against Fern Creek's, Butler's, Ballard's, and Fairdale's. Let us know who you think is the better coached and disciplined team. I expect Mayfield will expose some weaknesses in the DS secondary, weather permitting. It looks like it's going to be a sloppy field Friday night. Make sure your coaches walk the field before the game. Plenty of high/low spots out there to trip a guy.

Pretty sweet the way that prediction worked out, right snake?

DeSales line vs. Belfry line. That would be fun to watch.

I thought Mayfield was playing the '85 Bears in the first quarter. #5 was running like Walter Payton. #16 was completing crucial 3rd down passes, or running wild for huge 3rd down conversions, just like Jim McMahon. You had guys on the line that would make Refridgerator Perry and Richard Dent proud. And then Mike Singletary makes a pick 6! (forgot the players #) DeSales had this game in the palm of their hand. But Mayfield did what Mayfield always does; adjust. They sold out on defense to stop the run, and the QB run. They put 7 guys on the O-Line and ran the ball through the heart of the Colt defense. Sprinkled in some timely passes. I don't think anyone in the state of KY would have believed that Mayfield could beat DeSales at their own game; line 'em up and run over them.

We like to think Mr. Bright is quick, hard to tackle, and has moves that would make Barry Sanders jealous. He is only a junior, you might get another shot at him next year.

Great game, and season Colts! Nobody in their right mind would have thought Mayfield could run the ball like they did tonight. Just an awesome job by the line. Hope to see you guys next year in your beautiful new stadium!

Desales at Mayfield 2A semi-final predictions
Idon'tknow replied to ColtFootball's topic in KY Football (High School)
This is where you are wrong, and 95% of the teams in KY just don't get it. That history means everything to this program. Those boys in Mayfield, as soon as they understand football, want to be a CARDINAL. Every one of them wants to win State. They don't "believe" they can win State, they EXPECT to win State, every single year. Very few teams have this mentality. -

I must admit, I am impressed. While we were beating Williamsburg, you were beating a team that finished 8-6 in 2013, and 10-5 in 2014. Murray had you guys beat last year, and the zebras took it away. That watered down 2A you have been playing the last two years is gone. As one of the colts fans said, we welcome you to come play "big boy" football this Friday night.
